in my opinion fancy fonts and, not necessarily bouncing words but, animated words make it look like more effort and attention was put into subbing something provided its done right. i think it also gives it a sense of style, again if done correctly. when i see the standard white or yellow subs it seems so plain. it gives me the impression that since we don't speak the language and are not the target audience, subs are something to just get out of the way. i remember watching one piece episodes that were subbed by a group that was called vegapunk (i think) each special attack had its own font and a slight animation that made things like gomu gomu no pistol more significant when a character shouted them out. for me it helped bring the world and its characters to life. im not saying crunchy roll should do it. there are a lot of pit falls involved in advanced subbing but if they wanted and were able to give it a shot i say go for it!

this is some what unrelated but why is it that the attack names on bleach are not translated?

The aim of a professional translator is to try to make the experience as much like the experience of the original language audience as possible. Fancy fonts and effects distract from that.

Certainly lots of fansubbers put up subtitles that draw attention to themselves, but that's only natural since they are by and large doing it for acclaim rather than as a profession.

I love this! So glad Crunchyroll can add this. Anyway to give it more flair? I was able to read along with Dattebayo's lyrics, but the plain text is saddening. I know it can't be an easy thing to implement, but it would make me really grateful to see.
