This feels like it's going to be disappointing, and boring characters in a series filled with plot holes doesnt help

Kyon i am dissapoint.
Keep an open mind bro and notice that this show got animated because the novels sold hotcakes.

That and the plot picks up in volume 4.5
So far the anime just ended episode 8 which is roughly chapter 4 of volume 2.

Man you have amazing sources. But I still have t say, qt the rate this is moving, with only 12 episodes it's going to be disappointing.
But yeah, korezom is keeping mr hooked, but this so far isn't very. I am still watching though, it's probably gonna end with a cliffhanger

Actually it's probably gonna end after the battle against Natasha (America's IS representative) that got hacked by Phantom Task (The main enemy of the series that's seperated into several cells) That should be somewhere near the end of volume 3.
Well,at least we get to see how Ichika commands his team of killing machines. Believe it or not,it's strategy he excels at AND the ability to adapt quickly to a given situation (battle wise that is)

I agree with the majority of the people here. Despite all the hype over IS, it just turned out to be some bland mecha-harem with generic character archetypes taken out of the oldest book in the moe world. That's not to say it isn't fun to watch though. I don't know about you guys, but I liked the shininess of the CGI mechas and actual animation. Compared to other anime's out right now (*cough* Half of Kore wa Zombie *cough*) it's very decent looking. Sucks that I can't say the same about the plot though.

Oh, come on. We have the 'ojou-sama', the childhood friend (Who's both the straight-laced 'traditional girl' and a slight tsundere) and of course, the tsundere. If we take the popular definition of moe, then yes, this is probably one of the most moe anime that's still ongoing at the moment.

One guy. An entire academy worth of girls. That's the most basic of formulae for a mixture of harem, moe and rom-com.

I think yyou're confusing the word moe with something else my friend.
Moe is term of style not a definition of a build.

My friend, there are various different meanings to moe, depending on where you live, and which anime circles you thrive around. The defintion I'm using, which is the generally accepted one, is that moe refers to a type of character that are specifically there to look and act cute. In other words, moe is made up of two factors: looks and personality.
The characters of IS all have the style of art that moe often incorporates, which might be what you're referencing. But what makes them truly moe is there build and personality (The aforementioned tsundere, straight girl etc.)
Of course, there are Moe anime as well, which focus upon the moe elements of the show's characters. But essentially, moe comes from the characters themselves.

Not that much, surprisingly. Anime's before 2000s were rarely moe. But then during 2000-2010 there was a massive surge of moe, and moe dominated the market. i would say that during 2005-2008 about 75% of anime were moe (Just an estimation though). There isn't that much moe around, compared to back then, but it's still a crazy high amount. if you've ever went to forums for hardcore otaku's, they're all complaining about it (Not recommended that you go onto those forums though).
