Kim Nam Gil Receives Several Drama Love Calls

Actor Kim Nam Gil, who will shortly be discharged from the military, has been flooded with love calls from broadcasting companies. After receiving the offer from strong candidate MBC's drama 'The Secret Lovers,' Kim Nam Gil has also received the offer to appear in October's KBS2 TV's Wednesday-Thursday miniseries 'Jeon Woo Chi.'

'Jeon Woo Chi' will be broadcasted in August, as the follow-up drama to 'Nice Guy.' If Kim Nam Gil were to appear in 'Jeon Woo Chi,' he would mostly likely digest two roles. Kim Nam Gil has made a name for himself after appearing in dramas 'Queen Seon Duk' and 'Bad Guy.'

Upon discharge on the 14th, Kim Nam Gil will be busy promoting his drama 'Bad Guy' in Japan as well as other activities.According to a representative of Kim Nam Gil's agency Star J Entertainment, "We're thankful for those who haven't forgotten about Kim Nam Gil and currently reviewing all of the drama offers received."

Sin Ha-gyoon not available for "Jeon Woochi - Drama"

It seems like it's going to be a wait before we see Sin Ha-gyoon in dramas again.

Sin Ha-gyoon went through the script for KBS 2TV drama "Jeon Woochi - Drama" but revealed it would be difficult because of his schedule. "Running Man" and "Jeon Woochi - Drama" would overlap each other.

Sin's agency told Daily News and Star today, "We were offered the role of "Jeon Woochi - Drama" but it doesn't fit in with our schedule".

"Jeon Woochi - Drama" is a drama where ascetic Jeon Woo-chi comes to the Chosun for revenge but becomes the hero for the helpless. It should be aired in November after "Nice Guy".

Meanwhile, Sin Ha-gyoon became a top star after his appearance in the drama "Brain".

“My Husband” star may team up with U-IE in new drama

KBS’ hit series “My Husband Got a Family” star Lee Hee-joon may star in new historic TV series with songstress U-IE of After School. Lee and U-IE are weighing up to star in a new TV drama tentatively titled “Jeon Woochi," according to PR reps from the two stars' agencies Tuesday.

“We are still reviewing the script with other scripts from different productions. This is not an easy decision, so we need more time to think about it,” the official from Lee’s agency Jangin Entertainment told the magazine.

“Jeon Woochi,” originated from old Korean tale about a heroic figure named Jeon Woochi, is set to air in November but its broadcaster has yet to be set.

Rookie actor Lee has built his acting career in theater since in his early twenties, until when he got spotlighted through “Runway Cop” (2012), “Nameless Gangster: Rules of Time” (2012) and the weekend hit TV series “My Husband Got a Family” (KBS, 2012).

He also has been cast in a forthcoming thriller pic tentatively titled “Flu,” co-starring top actors Jang Hyuk, Cha In-pyo and actress Soo-ae.

Jeon Woo-chi casts supporting ladies

Yay, Baek Jin-hee! More casting news for dramaland’s adaptation of wizardy fusion sageuk Jeon Woo-chi, starring Cha Tae-hyun and UEE. With leads and baddies now squared away, it’s time to fill out the cast of supporting ladies, starting with High Kick’s Baek Jin-hee who’ll play Cha Tae-hyun’s little sis. Aw, can’t you just picture them coming from the same funny family?

Cha Tae-hyun plays the titular Jeon Woo-chi, a mischievous taoist wizard from the fictional world of Yuldo, who travels to Joseon to avenge the deaths of his teacher and his first love. But while on his secret revenge mission, he witnesses the plight of the people and decides to stick around, eventually becoming a hero. Baek Jin-hee will play Lee Hye-ryung, who doesn’t know that her oppa is actually Jeon Woo-chi, and struggles alone on her quest to find her missing brother.

Also joining the cast is Jo Ha-rang (pictured above) from the jTBC drama To My Beloved (coincidentally with Hong Jong-hyun who’s also in Jeon Woo-chi). She plays a gisaeng who works both sides of the law as a linchpin informant. She’ll play a pivotal role in helping Jeon Woo-chi — she’ll be his eyes and ears, since she’s in a position to keep him informed about the goings-on of every powerful man who comes through the gisaeng house.

UEE’s fellow idol group mate Jooyeon (pictured below) has also been cast, following her recent guest stint on Answer Me 1997 as Tae-woong’s quirky doctor girlfriend. She’ll be playing a damo (a female officer) who’s a skilled warrior and royal guard. She guards the young king, and has done so since his days as a prince. Aw, that’s a cute little side story. She’s still really, really green as an actress, but it’s pretty much a silent bodyguard character. If she can pull off soulful looks of longing and some badass sword skills, we’re golden.

Jeon Woo-chi follows Nice Guy and premieres November 21 on KBS.

Jeon Woo-chi beefs up its comic lineup

Here’s another wave of casting news for Jeon Woo-chi, and it looks like since the production has done its leading role pass and its villain pass, it’s time for the comic sidekick pass.

First up is one of my favorite scene-stealers, Jung Soo-young, who never fails to make me laugh out loud with her eccentric characters (see: Queen of Housewives, City Hall, Fantasy Couple). She’s capable of playing the straight character (Coffee House), but why waste all that comic timing? She will play a tavern mistress who also happens to be Jeon Woo-chi’s (Cha Tae-hyun) “ardent fan.” The hero has a fangirl? Er, I guess fanjumma? That’s hilarious.

You probably recognize Lee Byung-joon, below, as a comic fixture in practically every drama he’s done in the past several years. (Secret Garden, Dream High, Myung-wol the Spy, and even Gaksital—hardly a funny show, but his character Shin Nan-da (heh) had shades of the ridiculous.)

Lee Byung-joon will play a quack guru/fortune teller, which seems right up his alley. The drama’s description includes the tidbit that Woo-chi will mingle with all the lowest classes of Joseon society—the slaves, gisaengs, wastrels, petty criminals—and the fraudulent psychic oughtta fit right in. Can he be a fangirl too?

Last but not least is rookie actor Ahn Yong-joon, who’s a pretty fresh face. You probably don’t recognize him from his prior roles, but he does have a few: He debuted in 2005′s youth drama Sharp 2, acted as young Prince Yuri (son to Song Il-kook) in Jumong, and played a psychopath in OCN’s God’s Quiz 1 and 2.

Ahn Yong-joon’s got a big role to fill as a young king, Yi Geo, who ascended to the throne at a young age as the result of a coup. The dethroned king is his half-brother by a different mother, and while hyung was still in power Yi Geo feigned utter indifference in politics as a mode of self-preservation. However, even after becoming king he isn’t quite able to command full authority and continues the pretending game: he has three facades he hides behind—weak, lax, and indecisive. In actuality, though, Yi Geo harbors “a grand vision for a new Joseon.” Hmm… Is that an ominous vision? Or does that make him friendly to idealistic Hong Gil-dong and his disciple Jeon Woo-chi, who comes to Joseon and fights for its poor and downtrodden? Innnteresting.

Jeon Woo-chi premieres on November 21, following Nice Guy. The countdown clock is already tickin’…
