I am experiencing the same situation. I was only able to play last weeks Naruto Shippuden Episode on the mobile site on my Android Phone. Boxee, Chrome Browser and IE8 were no go. This week the last 2 Naruto Shippuden episodes and this weeks Bleach were the same way, but I noticed I can now play them off the website on my PC without issue as of last night. I still get the Boxee Error when trying to play the last 2 Naruto Shippuden episodes and this weeks Bleach episode though. I can play any Naruto or Bleach release before last weeks Naruto Shippuden without issue. Hope this gets fixed soon.

I should also note that Boxee just released an update to Boxee recently, perhaps that is part of the Boxee issue? I just re-installed Boxee, after restoring my computer last week, on Tuesday. I received an e-mail this week that a new version was released, so I know that an update was put out recently.

Boxee Error:
"Sorry, there was an error playing the video"

Thanks

YAY, I'm not the only one!

Some more information that may help......

Looking at the Python script, it looks like the "Sorry, there was an error playing the video." message in the following code:

are_resolutions_set = item.GetProperty('resolution_options_set')
if not are_resolutions_set:
resolutions=item.GetProperty('available_resolutions')
print "resolutions %s" % resolutions
if not resolutions:
mc.ShowDialogOk ('Error', 'Sorry, there was an error playing the video.')
return

resolutions = resolutions.split(",")
print resolutions
if len(resolutions) == 0:
mc.ShowDialogOk ('Error', 'Sorry, there was an error playing the video.')
return

Now, I'm not a python coder, but I'd say our problem lies somewhere in getting our available resolutions properly passed to the API.

Unfortunately I cannot find any logs that can substantiate this, and I really hate looking at code, because I'll get obsessed, and then I'll have to teach myself python, and I won't get anything done tonight or the next week for that matter. So I hope this at least get's us moving in the right direction.

Unlikely: I installed Boxee months ago when it was still 0.9.21.something and I upgraded yesterday thinking the API might have changed. However, still no dice so its more likely the CR API broke.

Anyhow, cheers for looking in to it

Did you copy and paste or type it over? It looks like there is at least a typo in that code: "resoluttions"

On a side note: I tried the latest episode of Bleach, Asobi Iku Yo and Naruto Shippuden in IE8 on Win7 and all of them worked fine (although I needed to reload the page for Naruto to start).

I had to re-type it, couldn't find the python script on my Mac to cut and paste and was too lazy to open a browser on my wintel box.

Last Admin post 3 days ago.......Has anyone with Boxee been able to watch anything posted after Aug 24th? I've resorted to using IE, but would much rather be using the Crunchyroll Boxee app, nicer interface for an HTPC setup.

Is Boxee now forgotten since there is iPhone and iPad 3G support?

I bought the one year subscription, so I am using Crunchyroll until Jun of 2011. The single largest factor in my decision to purchase a Premium subscription was.....wait for it.....a supported plugin on Boxee. Can you guess what the single largest factor will be for me to decide NOT to renew?

I know I am not the only one experiencing this issue. There are a couple of us Boxee users who have posted to this thread. I just wish more would, because I am sure it is more widespread than just the few of us voicing the issue here. Who knows, maybe I'm just loopy and there is not an issue, it's just me and a handful of other users who are having this issue and everyone else with boxee is just fine. But I am having this happen on both my Mac and my Win 7 box, and anything posted on the 24th or earlier works, so I find it hard to believe it isn't wide spread, rather just not actively voiced...

To further help with troubleshooting (though again I really hate coding, but since I haven't heard anything in over 3 days), I made some changes to the python script to further narrow down where the error is occuring in YOUR API (see bolded text):

are_resolutions_set = item.GetProperty('resolution_options_set')
if not are_resolutions_set:
resolutions=item.GetProperty('available_resolutions')
print "resolutions %s" % resolutions
if not resolutions:
mc.ShowDialogOk ('Error', 'Sorry, there was an error available resolutions.')
return

resolutions = resolutions.split(",")
print resolutions
if len(resolutions) == 0:
mc.ShowDialogOk ('Error', 'Sorry, there was an error resolutions.')
return

The Error I now receive when trying to launch any of the files is:
Error: Sorry, there was an error available resolutions

So.........................Your BOXEE app isn't getting the resolution passed to it from the links you are providing in your interface......

One step further.....hard coding a resolution.......... h264 translates to resolution value 12 according to your if statement later in the pythin script:
are_resolutions_set = item.GetProperty('resolution_options_set')
if not are_resolutions_set:
resolutions='12'
print "resolutions %s" % resolutions
if not resolutions:
mc.ShowDialogOk ('Error', 'Sorry, there was an error playing the video.')
return

resolutions = resolutions.split(",")
print resolutions
if len(resolutions) == 0:
mc.ShowDialogOk ('Error', 'Sorry, there was an error playing the video.')
return

WOW, NFW, OMG, GEEZ I'M SO FRIGGIN SMART, BUT WAIT, WHY DID I HAVE TO FIGURE THIS OUT?????
Hardcoding the resolution in YOUR python script results in things working.......go figure.......

SO....UNTIL CRUNCHY ROLL gets off their duffs.....

Users having this issue can put in the following work around:
Open the following file in wordpad (after making a backup copy of the original):
c:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\BOXEE\userdata\apps\crunchyroll\crunchyroll.py

or on Mac with text editor (after making a backup copy of the original):
/Users/username/Library/Application Support/BOXEE/UserData/apps/crunchyroll/crunchyroll.py

Change this line:
resolutions = item.GetProperty('available_resolutions')

to read:
resolutions = '12'

Come on CR....you can do better than forcing your users, or should I say CUSTOMERS to hack your code.

To make it easier for those who have the problem and who end up skipping the novel of a post I made:

One other note:
No visible difference between

resolution = '12' (h264)
resolution = '20' (480p)
resolution = '21' (720p)

All three have the same occasional dropped frame, in about the same places. Changing the value does not affect previously working videos.

Posted this work around the other day, I think CR is probably not going to be able to release an official fix until they have a chance to look at it after the Holiday weekend.

Yea, everyone's on a little vacation so the best bet for a fix is tomorrow at the earliest.

Update: This was fixed last night.
