SBS "Sign" becomes new winner of Wednesdays and Thursdays primetime chart

New dramas on SBS and MBC took off to a promising start, claiming first and second place, respectively, on the Wednesday's and Thursday's primetime chart.

SBS series "Sign", a medical drama starring Park Shin-yang, Kim Ah-joong and Jeon Kwang-ryeol, posted an average viewership rating of 14.6 percent on a survey by Total National Media Research (TNmS) and 16.9 percent on a poll by AGB Nielsen Media Research, landing on the top spot on both TV charts.

"Sign" tells of genius forensic medical examiner Yoon Ji-hoon who tries to solve various cases of mysterious death mainly through the means of forensic medicine while Jeon plays his rival and Kim Ah-joong, a rookie in the institute.

Arriving next on the chart was MBC series "My Princess", another start-up show for this week which reported an average viewership rating of 13.6 percent according to TNmS' data and 16.7 percent on AGB's statistics.

"My Princess", a romantic comedy starring Kim Tae-hee and Song Seung-heon, is about an ordinary college girl Lee Seul (Kim), also an adoptee, who finds out she was the lost descendant of King Soon-jong of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). Song plays Park Hae-young, a young diplomat who is given the mission to train the princess before she assumes her true position.

KBS series "President" starring Choi Soo-jong, Ha Hee-ra and Jay from idol group Trax, marked an average viewership rating of 7 percent on TNmS' chart, a slight improvement from last week but falling short of catching up with the newcomers.

In contrast, the series yielded an average rating of 8.3 percent, down from last week's 9.9 percent, on AGB's poll.

The show depicts on how a president is born through the process of various election campaigns launched by ambitious lawmaker Jang Il-joon (Choi), his family and staff members surrounding him.

"Sign" vs "My Princess", rating war '0.1% tie'

SBS TV Wednesday Thursday night drama "Sign" took the lead but Kim Tae-hee and Song Seung-heon are right behind it.

According to AGB Neilson Media Research on the 7th, "Sign" recorded a national rate of 17.7% on the night of the 6th. This is 1.6% more than the first episode. "My Princess" that was aired at the same time recorded 17.6%.

It was just a 0.1% difference. "Sign" took the lead on the first episode by 0.2%. Therefore, the real judgment can only be made next week.

On the second episode of "Sign", it causes tension as forensic doctor Yoon Ji-hoon (Park Shin-yang), a rookie examinant Ko Da-kyung (Kim Ah-joong) and detective Choi Lee-han (Jeong Kyeo-woon) try to investigate the cause for idol star Seo Yoon-hyeong's mystery death while Lee Myeong-han (Jeon Kwang-ryeol) tries to cover it up.

Meanwhile, drama "President" recorded 7.7% and seemed to be far behind "Sign" and "My Princess".

Sign released new poster, took rating lead over My Princess

In the middle of its airing , medical forensic-thriller drama Sign released new poster.
The poster tells the heated rivalry between the NFS director Lee Myung Han and forensic doctor Yoon Ji Hoon.
The ambitious NFS director Lee Myung Han who brilliantly played by Jun Kwang Ryul is in danger as his legitimate power slowly destroyed by devoted forensic doctor Yoon Ji Hoon (played by Park Shin Yang).

As the poster’s tagline defines the war :
Sword of reality vs sword of power
Who will be the real hero?

Sign developed into 2 man war, one fights for his power, the other fights for his belief.
When we think that Park Shin Yang needs to build his personality more deeper, Jun Kwang Ryul really did a great job here, definitely a breath of fresh air, he’s not overplayed his villain role so far, made it enjoy to watch.

Last but not least, Sign won the Wed-Thursday rating battle , defeated rom-com My Princess in the last 4 episodes with around 20% margin. Congratulation !

Kim Ah Joong talks her recent role in Sign

Kim Ah Joong learned many things from her just completed drama Sign, not only the experience of a forensic doctor, she also got many tips from her seniors such as Park Shin Yang and Jung Kwang Ryul.

She also experienced health issue after the drama ended because of the old disease of Korean drama production. For your information, it’s a common thing that drama was shoot overnight till the last minute before it aired.

Since Sign run in fast pace and taken from various directions , made the shooting quantity was about three times than other dramas. But unfortunately Sign has the usual same deadline time with those other dramas, made it a hectic shooting schedule for the cast and production team.
And the for the Sign last episode , the crew still filmed until just one or two hours before the drama aired. Resulted in poor editing. Scary !

Kim Ah Joong as the lead actress of course got a big impact because of it, then added with reality that she actually not shoot many dramas before Sign, made her in difficulty to adjust with the situation.
She told that it’s very short time to adjust herself into her character for some last scenes because she needed more time to load her emotion to blend into her character.

With her latest experience during hectic Sign‘ shooting, Kim Ah Joong realized that actually there were many great actors and actresses in Korea. She felt that her colleagues were a bit underestimated because she said that they were produced great acting in spite of harsh working condition.

As Sign gives a quite open ending and great rating, it’s no surprise that there’s many talk about a season 2.

When she’s asked her reaction if she gets offer to play again for season 2, Kim Ah Joong said that the question would be answerable after she read the script. Smart girl !
But she added that Sign would be better with season 2 and suggested a more refreshing, funny and sweet solution for the story.

What do you think ? Do you want Sign season 2?

We more than welcome ! With Park Shin Yang’s character already dead, means they will add new cast. Love it !
