So this new anime called Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls is out. Now first let me say again...that Im not totally into action-packed animes. But this does actually look promising. Actually....it blew me away as to what I thought it would be like. Heres a synopsis of the show....but it really isnt a good thing to just base a thought of this

The story takes place in Japan in the early 21st century, in an alternate reality where the Tokugawa Shogunate has remained in power. In this reality, student councils are tasked with oppressing schools. Yagyuu Muneakira is a high school student who rebels against his student council with the help of girls who've had the names of famous samurai heroes passed on to them.

Anyway, the art in this anime intrigued me. And the way the characters acted....the way they get embarrassed over things.....their reactions in general I should say.....seemed pretty surprising to me since I thought this woulda been a hardcore samurai anime.

What I liked about episode 1 is that we havent had any ranks of power yet. And what I mean is that we havent seen the main character kick the shit out of anyone so far....and it actually seems like we could have a ton of fights that could be won due to pure luck or something.

Oh and I cant believe I didnt put this at the beginning but....before the anime actually started its story....it showed all the Samurai Girls slashing planes and what not? I had no idea what the hell that was about. Also...it seems that this setting isnt in the past or anything....due to how the Samurai Girl who looked like a Maid had something that looked like a Scouter on her....so I dont know what the timeline is.

But anyway...me who hasnt really seen any type of Samurai female anime before....except Koihime Musou.....I would suggest giving this a shot...if your a fan of Samurai-ish type animes

well I just watched it and I might watch the next few episodes not sure what to think of it yet, though I did like that scene with the maid and the stocking too bad they didn't go farther.

Yar, I want more of this. I like the art style (except for the black splashes/drops censoring the boobies). Hopefully it'll get posted somewhere uncensored. Now we just have to wait a month for the official airing.

By the summery, it sort of reminds me of Battle Vixens, the plot anyway. I'll watch it to see if I can confirm my suspicions instead of being judgmental.

Judging from the dates they give in the beginning and the planes flying around I would say the whole story is set during or after WW2 ("20th year of shouwa"). The interesting thing is it seems to be a alternative timeline of history where the shogunate is still in place (the characters talking about the shogun and samurai and stuff).

Seems interesting enough, hope it won't be (but probably has a decent share of...i don't want to be disappointed:P) just limited to fanservice.

Technically the plot is in the present, but the government still remained as Tokugawa shogunate, the former Japanese Feudal system which was around the 1600~1868, when it was the Edo Period.

I just finished watching the first episode.

The technology is an odd mixture. We see the male lead get off a steam train that looks to be from the early20th century at the latest, with no evidence thus far of of any other forms of transportation. Despite this, he is using a digital camera that would not look out of place in our 2010. There is also dialog indicating computers and networks are in use. In the opening sequence, we also see what appear to be the same characters slicing up B-29 aircraft. Unless this is supposed to be in the past, it would indicate western military technology is at least 60 years behind our own reality.

It appears the creator decided to pick and chose what technology would be interesting for the story, with no regard for how technology would interact. (For example, if you have the technology to make computers and digital cameras, you would also have the technology to make electric railway systems).

On the ecchi front, my own greatest fear is that I may grow annoyed by frequent panty flashes, since this appears to be another series where the rule is "all panties should be white". (Overexposure to them in Agent Aika left me with conditioning to be irritated by panty flashes if there isn't an occasional splash of color).

Time will tell if the ink blot censoring proves to be too distracting. The ink blots also appear from time to time in scenes without censoring, which could either lessen the viewer's sensitivity to them, or just prove to be more annoying.

If you are the type person that can't stand ecchi, or can't stomach strong implications of yuri (one scene of that, with no doubt more to come), this isn't for you. OTOH, if you liked Koihime Musou, Ikki Tousen, or perhaps Sekirei, you will likely have no problem with this one.

With only one episode thus far, it is far too early to judge the value of the story itself.

May be it's like Kraftwerk and it's the future, and the future is vintage?

Well episode 2 made us realize supernatural powers can be used. ( I mean Im sure we knew but when Jyubei walked on air.....I mean that pretty much left us with the idea that fights can do anything)

Kinda dissapointed to know the maid is weaker then her.....but hey....there has to be someone stronger than the other....

And wow the big brother is ripped. I bet that Nia girl is just like Jyubei.

I am a little torn about this show, I really like the art style and the plot so far is not bad. If they manage to come up with a good plot for the show that doesnt rely solely on the ecchi elements of the show it will definitely be worth watching. So far after episodes 1 & 2 the show has some good promise, i do tend to be an optimist however.

I dislike it when I cant tell during a fighting scene what just happened. Like how the maid got hit by that big thing that Jyubei had that pretty much defeated her. I couldnt tell exactly what happened from the time the maid picked up her sword to the time she got hit by Jyubeis attack

Yeah, I think with the art style they use it's really hard to see some details when it's streamed in sub-par quality. Waiting for the DVD release is a ways off. I'll prob just stick with it as is and hope it's not too frustrating.
