Well, to me speaking is easy
if you watch a lot of anime/dramas & listen to Jpop all the time,
i don't think you'll have a problem speaking then (:

Writing.. it kinda depends
Hiragana & Katakana are actually quite easy
you just have to remember what the character stands for =D
Kanji is quite hard though, its very Chinese-ish lol
{even i can't understand it no matter how hard i try)
if you know how to write Chinese, you won't really have a problem learning Kanji

I used to like Jpop a lot so i sort of studied Japanese by myself
but now I'm more into Kpop though LOL
so i gave up learning Japanese for awhile now (=

So parts are easy and some parts are hard. You just have to find your learning technique. Kanji was difficult for me though and some grammar rules.

I have Rosetta Stone and it's great if you put the time into doing it. It's visual all the way and they also teach you how to speak it. It's an all around learning tool. I say if you can afford it get it.

not really the problem is you have to learn three alphabets in addition to learning how to speak it... there are 106 different hirigana characters...I've only learn 25 of them and have learned any katakana and only like 10 kanji so i can't really say...

you need to really commit yourself to it and really want to learn the language... oh and its not like learning spanish where you have the phonetic alphabet and just need to learn the language.. you need to learn the "Japanese character's" alphabet.. or kanji or however you spell it..
