They can have the talent, like ^, but because of the lack of Asian blood, other people (readers, critics, etc.) might come up with a separate term for non-asian mangakas. So in the end: yes, non-asians can become mangakas, though they might be called by a different term that is unique to non-asians, while still sharing the same status and everything as the word "mangaka".

Well, that's my two cents, anyway.

...I'm NOT Japanese (part Korean/Chinese and Nigeria but thats another story) ....first language english; currently learning Japanese for the fun of it.
Make of it what you will... but I certainly plan on becoming a Manga artist or Game designer in the future.

My g'son is a fantastic manga -style artist and has been drawing this style for several years, it's a passion of his. He's almost sixteen years old, bi-racial, black/white with the love of all that's asian.

as long as someone can draw manga and has agood imagination...they can do it, no matter what race. besides, who said a manga has to be published and made in japan? someone good just as well create a manga from scratch in north america or europe or even greenland for cryin out loud! BUT in order for it to be noticed, it should be a good manga like at the level of....prince of tennis or tokyo mew mew in terms of popularity (damn i thought abt this!!

Yeah. I think there are a few of them anyway. But I think their manga is kind of different from others.
