i am not sure myself if a non-asian cam become a mangaka....but i think that manga is great and that any body who wants to came become one. I really believe that manga is open to every one who want to try it and have interest in it...i mean, that is just my opinion...somebody else might think differently .....

It comes down to whether or not you are going to consider what they make manga. I mean, presumably it wouldn't be impossible for somebody to learn Japanese, fly to Japan, apprentice under a "real" mangaka, learn the "definitive style" that makes manga different than comics and then make their own. Realistically, you are probably imagining some guy making Japanese styled comics in English in which you'd just have an argument on whether or not its manga. I'd say no because I think manga are just Japanese comics and it isn't Japanese (linguistically culturally, or geographically.) It would be interesting to see somebody try though. Especially trying to imitate Japanese ideology.

Again, the use of Asian is kind of funny. Presumably there is a name for people who draw Manwha, are they mangakas by virtue of being Asian? Why would it be any easier for an Indian to become a mangaka than an Swede?

Their are already Mangakas(American) in America,who ever made this thread have you ever did any research before this?

So yes,being a manga artist does not discriminate against race,anyone can do it or at least anyone who can draw a good story.

If there are some non-asian that make manga but didn't know Japanese , they just need someone who know Japanese to translate it , I think that doesn't matter as long as the manga is good

Definitely. They don't have to be Asian to draw and make money. I'm Asian and I can't even draw.

of course, 漫画家=comic artist
comics=漫画
so by the rule of thumb, they are 漫画家 aka comic artist

Mangakas are the ones who promote their art in Japan. If you're not asian but can draw manga and speak/write japanese, good for you. But you are not a mangaka if your work is made in USA...and I wouldn't call it manga, I would call it : American comic.

They wouldn't really be mangakas, they would be more of a doujin artist than a mangaka. I'm pretty sure your not really a mangaka unless you get published in the official magazines and stuff.

Yeah it’s possible. But I don’t really like American magaka’s cos I don’t like the art styles. It’s either not the ‘manga style’ or yours your typical manga style that you learn from ‘How to draw manga’. But I could be wrong, but I haven't seen any.
