I use a pen tablet, specifically Wacom.
For the program, I highly recommend Paint Tool Sai, very easy to use, the brushes' softness and density settings are perfect for both amateurs and pros. The pressure sensitivity is awesome too.

I need to try that program, Photoshop just isn't fun for me to use....
I did draw this with photoshop though, and my wacom bamboo tablet. turned out okay i think.

I don't even know what the heck it's called and it's not serious drawing! When I am bored, I just use coloring program or else the dA drawing kit thing! When I am bored that is! I prefer traditional though!

Maybe you're taking the wrong approach towards Ps.
I like to draw my art first in Pen/Pencil then I scan it and load the image on to Ps for adding detail.
It's just a suggestion, but it works for me. :)
Don't forget to make new layers for everything you add to the picture if you already don't(makes things 10 times easier for erasing stuff).

I use Sai now and I LOVE it. it's probably the greatest thing for digital artists ever.

i use paint tool sai coz it's easier and friendly. . I don't know how to use the Photoshop coz it's complicated to understand >.> Also i have this wacom tablet it's small though, but i prefer small one than big ones  |

You can do almost about anything on SAI.
And Bamboo has a wide variety of amazing tablets. Get which ever fits your taste.

i get by on a wacom cintiq (small one) and manga studio EX4 ...i have the latest photoshop but it is taking me forever to get use to.

How much does manga studio do FOR you. I'm kinda curios. I want to use it, I think, but I don't want it to take too much away from doing it myself. I don't want it to feel like cheating.

I use SAI for most of my art, I'm trying to learn Manga Studio, and Photoshop I use for photo editing and making graphics. >_>
