Anyone and everyone who knows me knows I have an obsession for anime. Im treated normal. When I first got into anime I would talk about it 24/7 so I got on my friends nerves. I ended up stopping though and they kind of just know. Anyways, I;ve converted many friends to the dark side >:) And there are some other otakus in my school. So I just tell everyone who I know and its cool.

When I was in high school, they were treated as normal people... that is only because they do not let their actual otaku-ness shine, unless they were in the Anime Club. In college, it was the same way. I believe a lot of people in college hid the fact that they watched anime, probably because of the stigma that anime is "Immature, Childish, and for kids".

However, as we all know... Anime is very diverse and it is FOR ALL AGES.

When I used to watch Naruto (years ago), I got the question "Is that Pokemon?" a lot. looool.

Don't otakus stay at home all the time?

had an anime club at my school. I laughed and ridiculed the members because I hate western otakus. Dressing up like seshomuru or naruto half the time, always practicing jutsu signs as if it's the coolest shit in the world. And wearing ninja head bands EVERY SINGLE DAY.

They are the honest reason why anime is complete shit to most people in the west. Because the most prolific following are a bunch of candy ass nerds who discredit the awesomeness of actual anime. I love anime, Im not ashamed of it and everyone I know ends up knowing that I like it. If you really like anime, then stop taking dumps and leaving the sh** stain on it.

But seriously overtly bringing it everywhere with you and failing to have an actual decent persona is worse than those furries who get drunk and have sex in bear costumes.

It's not cool. Its a bad image. Anime can be epic. Dressing up like your favorite character and reciting phrases beyond your own house or anime convention is not.

When I went to high school in Atlanta, otaku's appeared to be nonexistent. When I got to know more people, though, I found that a surprising majority were "mild otaku's"; they just kept it well hidden. If you ask a set number of people (individually) if they are a manga or anime fan, you'll be quite surprised with the results. Over the past 20 years media sharing has evolved in leaps and bounds; take for example, the website you're on right now. Sites like CR and Mangafox are -in my opinion- the main reason so many Americans are hooked on Japan!

Oh, and varnlestoff? I second everything you just said! ^_^ b

I've been an Otaku for the past 7 years of my life starting in middle school. Anime was not as popular when I first got into it so people treated me and my friends differently (except for those random moments when they realized that Sailor Moon or DBZ were animes -_-). When I entered high school my group of friends took on a new group of people who were more of the gamers than otakus (but still watched some anime) but life was a bit easier because anime had become a bit more common so it wasn't something we were picked on anymore.

College is the best for anime however! Even here in Texas! My college puts on it's own anime convention (it has for years apparently :D) and at work I have random people compliment my anime pins on my work lanyard. I'm shocked sometimes when someone says "who are they from?" and there is no need for me to explain what a manga is :3 I love being an Otaku!

In my old school, my own class treated otakus as weirdoes. However, I was the only otaku in my class and everybody expect my friends were like "whoa, how the heck can you watch that thing?". But, our whole school probably even didn't now what otaku was, and one of my classmates was also trying to be otaku.

I hope that in my next school, otakus aren't bullied or something like that, because it sure has lot's of teens that were annoying.

As far as I can remember people here don't even care if they are otakus or not
