I'm asian, yet I have big eyes & eyelids, & well, totally different features than most 'asians'. So most people either think I'm Mexican for some reason... -__-

You'll definitely get that for dominicans, as we generally have a wide arrange of different toned folk in our culture. My cousins range from ...well Caucasian looking to donning more "black" attributes. |

I am part Japanese, Chinese, and Hawaiian so I don't really know where my features came from. It makes me feel unique, but I'd rather be able to be in depth with one particular culture and feel like I belong. Some people know I'm asian right off the bat without asking any questions, others believe that I'm from hispanic descent. I personally don't know what to think about how I look xD So are you part of a race whose culture you'd like to be more apart of? Do people deny you because of it or do they embrace you? Share your experiences with people's reactions. If you are not mixed, tell us your opinion of people who are. Your views about it can be whatever, just don't be rude Sorry if something like this was already done. im partially god... the rest of me is just pure awesomeness in the shape of a man. no but seriously, who cares? i dont want to piss on your self-deceit but you look asian... you clearly have all the asian features, its just that you cover your face with teddybears and stare like a maniac into the camera (so the eyes look bigger)... staring like that wont make you look more like westerner but it does make you look weird, so congrats :) i think you are in denial um yeah, sorry if i was rude in anyway, just like to keep it short and straight to the point and where the fuck in her post does it say she wants to look white? fuck off troll and don't be so conceited. ne way on topic I'm 100% korean, as far as I can tell, and i've asked my parents if they were korean and they said our ancestors were as korean as korean gets lol, but people say I don't look korean did you get offended? i think you look asian (koran, chinese, japanese, vietnamese... its all the same) Yes, offended by your conceit and ignorance. If you consider korea, china, japan, vietnam etc to be all the same, then would you consider england, france, and germany to be all the same? We have very different cultures, so don't be categorizing them into the same group. Cultures are different, but they don't change facial features. Sure, Vietnamese look somewhat different from a Japanese person, but they are both part of the Asian race. They are not Caucasian, they are not African. They are Asian. Just as culture does not define race, skin color does not define race either. For example, Indians are FROM Asia, but their race is CAUCASIAN no matter their skin color. It's their features that make them different. No matter how fair skinned an Asian person is, they can not be mistaken for European-Caucasian, because of their distinctive features. Now if you're mixed with different races, that's a totally different point. |

I usually am confused for a Latino-American.........which is fine when it benefits me

Well considering half my ethnic background can be summed up as a Heinz 57 and the other half is a big question mark I suppose I don't fit in any particular box. Though Caucasian with a dash of Latino has seemed to be the go to answer when the question arises. Though on the topic of the original OP I agree with what quite a few people have already said. Just because your Asian, African American, Caucasian, Latino, Indian, or Purple doesn't mean you'll look like the Joe Blow who is also a member of the same race a few countries over. Physical features and how DNA and Environment shape them is a very vast very interesting topic and is hardly an exact science. At the end of the day I just appreciate the very many and sometimes very attractive combinations that our Ancestors' variety filled sex lives have provided us. So I think we should all take a moment and say, "Thank you Ancestral horn-dogs for making our world a more colorful and beautiful place."

If you're of mixed race, you belong nowhere and everywhere, it's brilliant. Why set yourself up to choose to be part of one culture? You don't have to choose one or the other, (or the other or the other in the case of some people) You are part of all of it. You don't have to choose, you're lucky enough to fit into all the cultures that make up your heritage. Hey you may not look like it, but since when does that matter now? If you come at a culture with an open heart, that culture will embrace you no matter what race you look like.

Another factor to the perception others have on a person's ethnicity is style. It can also play a rather influential part in defining a person's race through the eyes and minds of others. I'm mostly Chinese with a small amount of Indonesian and Dutch. I clearly don't look Korean or Japanese, but when I had long hair and tied it up a certain way I would have tourists come up to me speaking whatever language looking for directions. I also had a truck driver once tell me all about all the Native friends he has and has made as he travelled across Canada. I thought to myself, "That's nice, but why are you telling me this?" He ends with "So, what tribe are you from?"

I am mostly German, but also have French Canadian, Scottish, and Indian....but I look like a short white guy.
Im proud of my German heritage the most....hahaha typical German. But I do like my French Canadian and Scottish. Unfortunately my mother does not know much of the Indian, she says the Indian blood is all but gone since it was a long time ago, but I still cling to it. Stubborn Native American!!! |
