or read around wikipedia and you will fall asleep eventually.

my suggestions

drink warm milk
turn on some soothing music
try to determine the cause of your anxiety (ex is not doing homework before turning in)

Well, I often have a hard time falling asleep as well. Here's what I do:
-Drink some hot cocoa and smoke a cigarette
-change into pajamas, because being dressed you'll never get sleepy
-watch something on the tv, but take care you're in bed while doing that or listen to some music
-do anything that will keep you from thinking, because that's the number one reason to stay up
-read anything, good book or boring magazine

Listening to my father expound on any topic for hours on end makes me fall asleep. But I guess not everyone is as lucky as me in that regard.

Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterized by an inability to sleep and/or inability to remain asleep for a reasonable period. Insomniacs typically complain of being unable to close their eyes or "rest their mind" for more than a few minutes at a time. i am pretty nocturnal so hmms.. what gets me to sleep ? i have to feel extremely comfortable or extremely worn out <- only way i can sleep in school ;P
sometimes i like huggin something like my pillow, that might help you..
and it helps if the room is dark..and as less noise as possible but white noise works.. like soft music or rain*etc running water (read that somewhere)
do a little activity before you sleep =] like exercise or read.. it'll worn out your brain activity so you wont end up thinking a lot before you sleep

well I suffer from insomnia and have for a while, and my doctors tell me to do

1. Yoga
2. Don't lie in bed if you can't sleep, just bad sleeping pattern
3. Could always get meds ( I had to for a while weening yourself away though is hard but oh how they work)
4. Make sure no distractions like tv, radio, bright lights...not healthy sleep habits
5.Could work out and tire youself out
6. Try and go to sleep at same time and wake up at same time..
7. Don't go to bed with unresolved things on your mind
8. You could close your eyes and think of something you want to dream about and b4 you realize it your waking up like oh did I fall asleep...(I do this often lol...)

but really you just gotta find something that works for you..(incase someone else reads this thread who can't sleep)

It's almost one am and I've been up since 5 am (''/)

Even though it's the holidays... my sleeping pattern has become ridiculous, sometimes because I just can't get to sleep. Doesn't matter if I have no energy, drunk like a hobo or even if I haven't slept in 24 hours.

Once I slept at 8am till 4pm... next day 12 am to 5pm
yesterday I slept from 8 pm to 11 am today and I still didn't have much energy.
Now i come home from work, slept at 8pm, woke up at 12am, can't go to sleep anymore... now it's 6am
