Hmmmm, let's see. I'm sure Pennsylvania has a statute about resurrecting a skeletal body from a grave plot. Or a group of skeletons (my relatives on Dad's side of the family tree) for that matter if this was to be a group drink-fest. And wouldn't the liquids leak out quickly? Yuck, messy and creepy. It's just not ethical or practical either so I'll pass on this aspect of family bonding with Dad.

Mom: hmmmm, she died 1998 at age 84 from pancreatic cancer and opted for cremation. I tried 1 time late 1998 to have her answer the phone. I recall a telemarketer insisted on talking to Mom despite my assurances Mom could not come to the phone for personal reasons. I was still grieving at the time and chose to be polite rather than a manly man. I told the tele-gal to wait a moment and I'll go get Mom. I put the canister which held Mom's ashes on the table and informed tele-gal of the circumstances and asked if she would wait until I could summon the local TV and radio stations to appear and witness a 3-way conference call as I'm sure this will certainly be 1 hell of a miracle re communication from the dead. Happy to report the gal on the phone, after a discernibly long pause, changed her assertive tone and apologized profusely. Mom and I never heard from her again.

Now, subject matter at hand: drinking, hob-nobbing with the folks: maybe on the other side someday but not now, not here.

Hell yeah. My parents are a lot of fun. My mom and I start talking about weird stuff like creation and life... Eventually she get's trashed and starts cracking "That's what she said" jokes and she turns into a teenager again.

I drink with my parents all the time. I've never gotten drunk with them, but that's because of my awesome alcohol tolerance. The holidays are for snaps to be drank so family do get drunk together. But we're used to snaps so it takes a little while to get drunk on them, also since one usually drink them during a meal.

For those who don't know what snaps is: it's a Swedish word for a small shot of a strong alcoholic beverage taken during the course of a meal. (Usually several of these are downed during the meal.)

Helan går, sjung hopp,
fa-de-ral-lan-lal-lan lej!
Helan går, sjung hopp,
fa-de-ral-lan lej!
Och den som inte helan tar,
han heller inte halvan får.
Helan går! [now gulp down your snaps]
Sjung hopp, fa-de-ral-lan-lej!

The english version. (Which is not a direct translation, just words that sound similar to the ones used in swedish) So that english speaking people can sing along.

Hell and gore,
shun gop, Father Allan, lallen lay.
Hell and gore,
shun gop, Father Allan lay.
Oh, handsome in the Hell and tar,
hand, Ay Hell are half and four.
Hell and gore -
- Shun gop, Father Allan lay!
