so, my question is that often after hearing the lecture on any particular disease, have you ever felt that maybe you have that disease nd you should get yourself checked???

i've felt that quite alot of times..................!!! recently, my mom attended a lecture on heart diseases nd after returning, she told us about it................!!! that's when i felt maybe somethings wrong wid my heart cuz i'd been feeling a lil' chest pain............!!! i told mum.........next day, went to the hospital nd had my ecg done............!! it was normal except my pulse rate, which was really high.................it scared me soooo much that i cried after coming home!!! but now, it's all f9..........all my results are ok nd i've decided NOT to stuff my head with things i don't understand...........!!!

so, tell me about your experiences if you have any............!!!

*i havn't checked if this is a duplicate or not so if there already is one like this, then please delete it..........!!!

Yeah, this has happend to me also. I think a lot of people experience the same kind of worry as you did, in your experience, too - the only difference being that you actually took the initiative to actually have yourself examined to get the answers you needed. Some people are too afraid to actually get analyzed!

I have never had an extensive set of STD tests done, so I made an appointment not too long ago to have bloodwork done. It took me a month after I made the appointment to get the bloodwork done, and I am getting the results in about a week - another month after the initial appointment.

I'm currently pursuing a career in healthcare, and of course in a hospital environment the staff cannot have communicable diseases - at the risk of spreading them. I don't remember if it was a commercial about an AIDS charity, or an AIDS joke - but it made me stop and think for once, "Shit, I'm doing pretty well in school.. but I've never had a full set of STD tests... I'd be so screwed if I made all this effort and I had something.. I need to go get tested". I've been with my girlfriend for 10 years, and niether of us are sluts, so I'm not too concerned, but its still something I don't want to leave to chance.

I also got a diabetes test done.. because I learned that a symtom of diabetes is going to pee frequently, and for some reason I've been doing that recently.

I found out I have high blood pressure when I went to my appointment. I've never had high blood pressure, so it freaked me out. I don't want to start taking pills for stuff like that, ya know?

It's not abnormal to worry about your body - hell, if you don't, who will?

By the way, I think your pulse rate may have been high at the time due to nervousness or anxiety. It's easy to get dizzy when learning about symptoms of this or that - but I'm glad your ok!

It does induce extreme paranoia when you hear of new flu viruses and stuff. Around the time of swine flu I developed OCD I became so obsessed that I was going to get the flu that I was cleaning myself way too much =/ and when I got some congestion I thought I was coming down with it.

It helps to be paranoid because this leads to prevention. -__-

I have a tendency to over-exaggerate any sort of pain or illnesses I may have and become paranoid on whether it might be something worst. Sometimes I even try to self diagnose myself, which is a horrible idea because not only could it be inaccurate, but makes you worry even more.

I've had my share of hypochondria in my day. At one point I thought I was going to have a heart attack, because I had a mild panic attack and was paranoid for several days after. But then I realized what it was and felt stupid for worrying so much.

Hooray. Now I just have to duck the big C... and I'll be good.
