^ Pretty sure Angel Beats didnt have a manga prior to airing

And remember guys. Everytime 1 Original idea is used.....thats 1 less Original idea that can be used. And therefore will be used repeatedly until someone finds a new Original idea. I will never complain about an anime being Unoriginal

One of the major problems that the anime industry is having to deal with is a glut of too much anime. It went from 80-100 anime series/OVA's/movies a year in the 1990's to over 200 in 2006/7. Last year was still high at around 133 I think. When you are trying to create that much content a year, then that necessitates having to borrow ideas from other sources like manga/light novels. That in itself is fine, but when they turn those manga's/light novels into anime's before there is even enough existing content in those manga's/light novels then thats where the problems arise. They need to consolidate their efforts and release around third less anime a year. Doing so would allow each anime a greater portion of the anime money pie, allowing for greater budgets and quality each. imo

Is there supposed to be a problem with this?
New manga = new anime = YAY
It's too sad too say "anime has gone down lately" when there's a whole bunch of anime still unwatched or uncreated :3

People been complaining from 2003 > now that Anime lacks originality anyways.

I've notice that the most recent anime that has been coming out is incredibly predictable and unoriginal.

Same here. Anime and manga are also arts so past ideas will be borrowed. Of course, that doesn't mean there can't be any uniqueness between an old and new anime.

The real problem is the economics. The production companies are afraid to take a risk with some outside the box anime. They know that making a lot of something fans like, and are used to will work. Sales individually will be lower, but anything en masse can be profitable. When the economy in Japan and globally sees an upturn, there will also be a slight decrease in the number of short manga based titles and an increase in the more plot driven titles. The way I see it, there's no reason to complain. If you like a show, watch it and if not, then don't. Like others have been saying, every other form of entertainment media has gone in the unoriginal direction for quite a while so let's just wait and see. I personally don't mind because there's more to choose from and I don't take any show too seriously.

Umm... really?

This is interesting. I didn't know there were anime with no manga origin until now.

I have to agree with you. I didn't know there were anime without manga origins as well.

I guess you learn something new every day.

Nothing new to me here. After the turn of the millenium, we began to see things really slip for anime. The classic look and feel that got us into this genre has evaporated gradually as if it never existed. The really interesting material has all been used up.

Not only did the manga not exist. The manga started when Yurippe and Hinata were the only two to awaken to their situation. Even Mitsudomoe's manga is only coming out now, and the characters don't quite look so chibi-ish.

i still prefer manga then anime

its a good thing most genres i watch are not really affected, they still surprises me... my only concern is if it will weed out those most commonly used plot/copy or will the genres i watch will be buried by the commons

its getting harder everyday to find an anime that im really enjoy

omg cry more pls there is no good anime anymore i call bs on that there is plenty of good stuff out there if you bother to look and as far as people complaining that all the anime thats coming is based off manga ohhhh my god well lets stop making movies based on scripts and storyboards while were at it and nothing based off a book cause that would be wrong to the only anime that should be allowed is gonna have to be pulled out of somones ass to satisfy some of you people

To the posters above me. How are those comments related to what the OP says? Its not talking about Anime is running out of ideas or lacking Originality. Its simply saying how the anime industry itself is going down the drain and now they are adapting random manga to make up for it

Hmm, then what about those fillers close to every anime has about the Beach ? Those aren't from Manga ;P

While anime being adapted from manga is hardly a recent development, if those that are chosen for adaptation are all of a similar theme or quality then it's bound to lead to a claim that the industry is somehow running out of ideas.

So far as anime originals go at the moment, there is the Anime no Chikara project from TV Tokyo and Aniplex (paraphrasing here from the Wiki entry) which has been making original anime series. I loved Sora no Woto, not so sure about Occult Academy (the first episode didn't seem to know *what* it was trying to be), and haven't had a chance to see Senko no Night Raid (the first two are available on here)

My point is that anime originals do still exist and there is at least some interest presently in promoting them.
