You'd bring this up in the forum instead of individually messaging members? I don't think there is much to debate about here, my good sir. I mean, what the crap kind of business would we run? A maid cafe?!

Actually starting a small business is a risky adventure especially restaurants they have a 90 % failure rate in the first year. Most small business need at least Five years of capital of running red Ink just to make it such as any service oriented business clothes catering auto repair shop and so forth. Now one thing people do not look at the economy if it good selling new products tend to do well and service that are considered non essential. In hard times auto repair most any repair business do better to to the lake of fund to replace old items with new one. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Reputation is everything in good and bad times, removing mud from your name is much more difficult then keeping clean. Some customers you can not satisfy just do your best and leave at that most this people even there friend know how difficult they are so do your best cut your loss on them. But doing your best is the only way to keep your reputation clean. If employee mess up it like you messed up and take as such with the customer. Pointing and the employee will not help you like in politics, but remember employees are people and do mess up just like you. Conflict yes so making sure your customers happy even if something goes wrong and you may take it on the chin finance wise that apart of business.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------For me it was reputation from past work, that how I started but never hand out business card while working for somebody else. I would never hire any one like that because of there mixed character. I started after I stopped working and many customers followed me by looking me up. That the best way around a non compete contract, most had my home number during and emergency call back then cell phone were not around. When starting in the same field find new customers is tough but if you are very good the old ones will find you as well Power conversion motor control work.------------------------------------------------------------------What I would tell you is get allot of experience and see if you really love the job and the industry's your going into. There no such thing as a 40 hour work week when the owner in most case's. I worked in restaurant as young teenager 13, 40 hour and trying go to school you could not give me a restaurant. That a business that can consume your whole life or destroy your finance very fast.----------------------------------------------------------------Talk to a CPA pay for a consulting fee and see the tax's laws you have to deal with from county even city state and federal Do not let it overwhelm you but a good CPA is worth there gold. And get the opinion of several CPA making sure you your getting good advice and then hire the one firm to handle the tax's best.

Crunchyroll itself is a good example of the difficulties in starting a new business and, like tarakelly said, new companies usually run in the red and take time to become profitable. The first 6 or so months of 2009 were very bumpy due to video encoding issues, the negativity that people on the internet had towards the idea of Crunchyrol since they were resistant to change and network problems due to us utilizing a CDN service (CDNetworks) which apparently couldn't handle the load. Luckily we have a good team of employees that worked to improve the service and make the hard decisions to spend more money to quell issues so that we'd be profitable in the long run which is finally coming to fruition. Now things run fairly smoothly and we get good publicity from news networks as well as from people around the internet though we are still working to improve the service even further.

At one time I seriously considered teaming up with friend to open a gaming and miniatures store. I have concluded that my current cycles of depression and inactivity disqualify me from working for myself in that manner. I cannot put in 18 hour days and give myself no holidays or sick days.

Still. yes. it would be nice to be your own boss. There are times when while I love being a nurse I absolutely loath going into work. My workplace is toxic.

I've wanted to start up one like Information Unlimited + United Nuclear for a long ass time. The kinda stuff they do is my dream job. But I loathe the idea of being subservient to others.

That great that you and the team could pull this off in such a short time. You all should be proud of yourselves. Good luck and many years to come.

After seeing so many small business's around my area go tits up I'm not into the idea.No-one eats out anymore due to recession(and stupidly high prices) and theres so may restaraunts closed down in the last 12 months it's quite depressing, especially since some have been around for years.Although I admire those who take the intiative and try with their idea's.(But some business's you can tell won't last 6 months)

If you are crazy enough to start a restaurant ticket control is very important. I have seen a few time where the change has been given out but never rung up. I have herd some people even brag about it after the restaurant close and go to bars and talk about it. Say they were not paid enough there wage are the tips to insure good service. If you have a good partner that one way that you do not have to live at the restaurant. another thing If you higher a manger make sure there there Fair I.S.A.C, credit score in in the 700s anything bellow means they can't mange there own money so they are pron to steal. Not all but some. All three credit breuer Can not be trusted they miss information and they play games with the scores.

Its pretty admirable trait, being an entrepreneur and setting up your own business. Most post here have already posted that a majority of small-businesses are doomed to fail, and this is true.

Its best that before setting up a small business such as a restaurant per se, that one work in a restaurant and gain experience.
If you are planning to set up a business and expand on it and be successful, you must provide values unique to your customers that your competitors don't have or will be hard-press to follow. (eg woman's only gym, lockers and gym equipment and aerobic lessons cater for woman. eg Health care industry using little fish as therapeutic to eat dead skins on people's feet).

I recommend anyone setting up a business or in one or thinking of one to get this book, 'Blue Ocean Strategy'.

PS: It should be noted that child-care especially education will always be booming especially in Asia. In most part of the world, with the , rapidly graying population (lower birth rate and higher age-span), with the exception of America because of their unique immigrant problem, care for the elderly will likely be a booming and growing industry.

PS2: I also believe that there is a significant market in America for quality well-translated manga or Anime in its original language but with good subs which are not being addressed as well as translated mangas that match the Japanese release date. There should also be better effort in dubs. Its ironic but a lot of dubs in Anime but fan-made dubs were significantly better and even translated mangas from official sources which we pay for are worst than the amateur scanlator community.
