I've been a fan since the series started, but for some reason this latest (the fourth) season seems to be a decline. Do you agree, disagree, or have some other opinion on Mad Men?

Only watched the first season. What happens after that... does Don stay with Betty (I heard thay'll have another child) or is he gonna run away with some mistress? Will Peggy keep the baby and tell Pete about it? This is one of those shows I don't mind spoilers about, so spill the beans!

Since you asked and if you're absolutely sure you want these spoilers:

I strongly recommend you continue watching.

I've only seen the first season as well, but I love this show. Especially the the characters and the way office life was portrayed way back in the 60s. I haven't even started season two yet and now I'm not looking forward to catching up with the latest season now. hahaha

Update: Season 5 will be premiering in March 25, 2012 at 9pm ET. Jon Hamm will be directing that episode.

Edit: Mad Men earns an incredible fourth consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series. And here I thought Season 4 was a decline for the show.

I watched the first 10 episodes of season one and then I quit watching. I liked the show (it's a decent one to pass the time with) but I couldn't get myself to fall in love with it. I could see myself losing interest in between seasons.

It's too bad you didn't finish season one since it ends quite strong and with some big surprises. Some of my family feels the same way--to each their own.

I seriously fell in love with this show and it has maintained it's title of most outstanding drama series in the Emmys four years in a row and I can see why! The acting is brilliant, the plot is realistic, and the overall show is amazing. I don't think I'm exaggerating x3 I honestly can't wait for the 5th season. This shoe hasn't failed me as of yet.

Four seasons are on Netflix and I'm in the middle of Season 2. I was a kid during this era and likely don't recall a lot from the early '60's reliably. People smoked but I don't remember being in any office where everyone did during working hours to the extent this series' illustrates it. That was lunchtime fare. The drinking was also confined to the upper management club rooms, bars, or home.

This show is watchable but depressing. The props are believable as are the home interiors, cars, dress code, mannerisms. And the emptiness the main players experience is realistic also. I remember many of my relatives who appeared to have it made materially being quite unhappy with their lives. This show has done a remarkable job illustrating that plus the dark side of corporate culture. As for the office politics it wasn't this overt in real world during the '60's but sexual harassment toward women and the demeaning descriptors were commonplace and very prevalent throughout office culture. These practices persisted well into the early '80's.

Now that I've been programmed with 1990's-2011+ societal values I cringe when I see certain office pranks performed on this show. Truth is, many of these pranks were innocuous in the day, even taken as quid pro quo office behavior. Many members in the stereotypical steno pool did hope for a chance to land a handsome, eligible, employed bachelor and this was 1 avenue that might lead to interesting partner possibilities.

Personally I hated the early '60's. The women put on too much make up. Their dresses made them look like monsters from outer space. No wonder their husbands or boy friends wanted to be someplace else without them all the time. Cars were stylish, fast and powerful from 1955 through 1957 and then their looks went horribly wrong. To date I think the ugliest US automobile design has to be the 1959 Buick. My God, it's the Jetsons' set of wheels on steroids.
