Legal Punishment - Right or Wrong?

eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind.
The current rates of recidivism in this country clearly prove that the system does not work.
all the primary social institutions are interrelated so that one affects the others.

"If something else works better than punishment, then that other means ought to be used either as a substitution for punishment or in addition to it. Some people argue that punishment itself does not work, but combined with rehabilitation, job training, or psychological counseling, punishment might be effective. However, if a punishment system isn’t working, then, in this view, it is not morally justifiable, for the whole idea is not to punish for punishment’s sake but to achieve the goal of law enforcement. Should someone who is truly diagnosed as paranoid-schizophrenic be thrown in jail, or put into a rehabilitation place? Is that morally right?"

I would say yes. It is more difficult and costly, but it will give better results in the long run.

Let's not kill EVERYONE, we gotta keep the rational, shy, supermodels.

I wanna get my freak on

Is that "come as ye are", New Testament? Aka the hippie section of the Bible. Make love, not war. I really don't like that pacifistic stuff. Those guys are usually violently murdered.

If you want peace, be prepared for war-kinda guy.

crime would be basically nonexistant because everyone would have to pull their equal load

Or anarchy. With the Satanists at an advantage. Think Mad Max. I personally would use my intelligence to cheat the weaker of the species. Or Free-Market Capitalism minus taxes. Just being honest.

I support Socialism or Communism as true utopian systems. Too bad they have never been practiced by the Marxist rules. Any Totalitarianist can call dictatorship, Communism and get away with it for a while, before the Revolution of course.

anarchism and atheism is the way to go.
fuck satanists, they all suck anus

youll see me post a lot about satan and god tho, not that i believe in either one of them

Crimes of Passion I feel strongly about. Regardless of what mind state you were in, you still committed the act. For example a recent case in my area about a drunken driver who was dricing on the wrong side of the parkway and killed a little girl in limo. Was he in the right of mind? no he was drunk. Did he willing want to kill that child? probably not. But the point is that he did. And he shoudl be punished accordingly.

That wasn't really a crime of passion. Kiling in anger, depression, or cult mentality, maybe but drunk driving is an altered state AFTER making an irresponsible choice to drink and not plan a way home.

Once irresponsiblity hurts others, you are held accountable.

if god didnt exist, there would be no satan...that means there would be no evil, correct?
because it was satan in disguise that tempted adam with the taboo fruit
eden was all peachy before that, so heres the math
god=satan
no god=no satan
no satan=no evil

But evil does exist, so does this inverse-transitively prove God's existence?

no, it means people are too dumb to think about their actions and the impact it has on others

The problem of Evil is not as simple as that. People have debated this for years.

Society as a whole though, needs something to limit the actions of people in general. This due to the fact that one person's action can have an effect on the rest.

Well ill start by typing that ive hardly read any of this thread. I agree that there is clearly a prison overpopulation problem in America.

I have thought before how lame punishment is often though. Just punish them and then let them out later, hopefully they dont do it again based on the fear of prison. An idea is to reform them so that they understand what they did was wrong. But, who has a comprehensive and cohort view of morality. Thus the problem.

Can anyone provide some articles on why its seemingly so much worse off in american then most other places?

not with anarchism, with anarchism youre too worried about staying alive to bothr with anyone else

then the magic happens
people, mostly families form and stay together, because of their singleminded dependence on each other, they support one another as a whole
this is the beginning of clans, which is the best and most effective form of anarchism

Those limits are called laws, religion, and personal ethics. Some less-than-normal people choose to ignore thousands of years of social develpoment and ignore all previous philosophy(atheists, anarchists, Republicans, Satanists, etc.) .

I try to learn from as many of these philosophies as possible.

well what i think is whether your insane or mentally okay it doesnt even count for me, you should be given with the proper punishment, but if you need theraphy then it should go first before the punishment and my answer to the question if it is morally right??
did the criminal think if what he had done is morally right before he had done it??

well, you could have just said a damn, whooping that its RIGHT! And i like it that the theraphy should go first before the punishment; therefore, the person that is being punished will atleast know and feel that he/she is being punished...
