Well ill start by typing that ive hardly read any of this thread. I agree that there is clearly a prison overpopulation problem in America.

I have thought before how lame punishment is often though. Just punish them and then let them out later, hopefully they dont do it again based on the fear of prison. An idea is to reform them so that they understand what they did was wrong. But, who has a comprehensive and cohort view of morality. Thus the problem.

Can anyone provide some articles on why its seemingly so much worse off in american then most other places?

The problem is, there is no fear of the death penalty. If they had public executions of serial killers, and they were not killed comfortably or covertly, then the people would actually fear being slaughtered for their crimes. Not to mention the relative pampering of the death row system and you have a joke system.

And the second idea would probably work but it takes too much effort, and we are lazy. We just release the child rapists back into the playgrounds without castration.

If we became animals, the world would still be there. But we'd be eaten by the other animals.

Drug dealers are hanged in my country. The rest of them get the rotan which hurts like hell.

This condition is known as the "state of nature," The philosopher Thomas Hobbes depicted this state in the most famous passage of his book Leviathan: "During the time men live without a common Power to keep them all in awe, they are in a condition which is called Warre; and such a warre, as is of every man, against every man. . . . In such condition, there is no place for industry . . . no Culture of the Earth; no Navigation . . . no commodious Building; no instruments of moving . . . no Knowledge of the face of the Earth; no account of Time; no Arts; no Letters; no Society; and which is worst of all, continuall feare, and danger of violent death; And the life of man, solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short."

i simply say kill the killers. 90% of them cannot reform once they have tasted that sweet nectar of the kill. how do i know? im the same way with a few things.

reformation is almost entirely impossible. HOWEVER, for people other than 1st and 2nd degree murderers, the punishments should be changed drastically.

drug abusers should be put into rehab, cept weed, which should be legal i believe. jail rehab is shit. real, good rehab. they have 2 chances to make it, on a third drug abuse, they are simply done away with. we tried.

drug dealers should be given an ultimatum: sell the drugs, get caught and executed, or dont sell the drugs, the prisons and government helps them find jobs and places to live, ways to reform, and the ability to make it. give them a chance of success. as it currently is, 90% of inmates end up back in prison at some point in their life.

rapists any kind of sexual offender...snipped, plain and simple. they serve their prison sentence, go out onto the street with the reform or die. again, they are helped. obviously this isnt as good for women, but yeah... all sexual offenders must report to a probation officer for basically the rest of their life. they can move, they can do what they will, but they must report such things in. keep tabs on them.

manslaughterers. this was an accident, or heat of the moment which could not be helped. they are simply given any help they may require, then helped back into society.

drunk drivers. given a breathalizer and a sobriety test...if they fail, they die. plain and simple. i hate drunk driving...soooo much. maybe it should be like .08-.1 you lose your license for 10 years. caught again you die. above that, you are just put to death after you are found guilty.

theft. i dun care about. same as it is now, but with a better system of rehabilitation and getting them back into society.

now, i know this is extremely harsh, and sooo "uncouth and politically incorrect"...but i dont really care. they are given their chances, and given ways to use those chances. if they fail, even with the best help possible, they will not be reformed. the problem with mental rehabilitation of criminals, is they have it in their mind what they did was not WRONG most of the time. just as i see it as not wrong to kill a person for your country, or steal from a multi-million dollar company. i dont see the problem with smokin a bit of weed. thats how us criminal-types think.
