i know this parent who is not taking care of her kids well. her kids are overweight. i don't mean by little overweight. her daughter is 3 years old and she weighs 52 lbs, and her son is 8 years old and he weighs 92 lbs. she out driving her kids around really late at night. should someone gets hold of someone to look into this case? what weight should kids around 3 and 8 years old weigh?

I'm not really sure how much a 3 or 8 year old should weigh, but maybe this chart could help. It's all I could find right now. It's for the average weight for children. click here I hope it helps. :/

It's hard to prove child abuse unless you have enough evidence to file a case. It doesn't really sound like she's abusing her kids, except with overfeeding them a bit. Maybe consulting a Dept. of children services in your area could assist or something.

her kids cud be just fat :S doesnt mean she's a bad parent.. unless you'ver been IN the house and witnessed the neglect or abuse yourself then you have no base for your accusations. I would find out the facts before i do anything about it hm... maybe you could vocie your opinion towards their parent?

When I was in 7th grade I was 89 pounds (I was 11 or 12, I think), and I've always eaten a lot of fancy, expensive food since I am so picky. I've always been spoiled when it comes to food.

I don't think it's abuse to feed your kids. Maybe the mother just doesn't know how to get them to do anything physical. When I was their age, I was outside all the time, but now that computers and video games are so prevalent, kids are getting increasingly fat. I don't think it's really abuse. It's sad, but not abuse.

Spank the parent(s) doing the abusing.

I agree. Contact child services and they'll let you know if something can or can't be done.

I am in the fitness industry and what you describe seems to be very poor parenting skills, but I don't think that it would be considered "abuse" as far as the LAW goes. (personally I think it's horrible to let your children become obese...)
Many people are uneducated about what is healthy eating and what is poor eating. They think they are being nice when they let their children eat candy or McDs Happy Meals when what they are really doing is poisoning the children and condemning them to an early grave! Unfortunately it is also very inexpensive to eat poorly. Fast food offers the highest amount of calories for the lowest cost. It's a sad thing for sure.
About the staying up late, I don't think think it's a crime either, once again people have choices as parents, and so long as the kids aren't missing school because of it, then it's simply poor parenting. If they ARE missing school due to their late night habits, then the school district most likely has truancy laws in place to address the issue and they will get Child Protective services involved.

Honestly, if I were in your shoes. I'd talk to the lady. But either than that, it's not really necessary to call anyone. Unless the kids are being neglected and are being beat up, it seems to me like there's nothing wrong with that family except the mother has no back bone to say "no" to her kids when it comes to food.
You have a mouth, if you don't agree with what she's doing and are concerned, talk to her.
But try not to offend her if you don't know her well or never spoke to her at all. Start the conversation by asking if her kids participate in any sports? Then from there, as gentle as you can, tell her she sucks at parenting :]

If the kids are being abused, your description does sound like a form of neglect, I'd get child protective services in on it.
Now saying that might sound like snitching or getting police involved, but that doesn't have to be the case.
I can imagine confronting her randomly does not seem appropriate, so you can have some back up that way and they will make the case presentable and actually produce help.
Educating her in certain areas and having more surveillance on the matter.
If the weight is an issue, check their body mass index and consult a physician.
If the parent in question is heavily overweight, some of it can't be helped and will be contributed to genetics.

Take away a parents kids for overfeeding them? cause thats what the Dept of children services could do at the drop of a hat. that would be like taking away a kid because the parents spank them...oh wait they take them away for that too. as long as they arent BEATING or MOLESTING the kids. this is all fine

If the boy is in school the nurse generaly takes note of weight and notifies the parents if it's not normal.
but what you don't know is all speculation

call HRS yourself if your worried they won't reveil it
they'll take note of living conditions and eating habits
If the children are in danger DO something about it
