Do let us know if you have any questions about Christianity. It is crucial that we know the right things and not be led astray by the secular speech.

If our members cannot answer your question, you can be sure we'll do research on that topic and give you a satisfactory answer backed up with evidence. Your questions might be relevant to others and it'll benefit all of us to get a common ground on certain issues. Don't be afraid to ask things that have depth, or questions that sound very basic.

I hope to have 'Born Again' be a starting ground for building up on the knowledge of God as well as faith and support.

----
Do I have to worry about the 10 commandments as a born again believer?

One thing about Christianity is that you have to be aware that your sins have been paid for. All your iniquities, abominations, and sinful and lawless deeds, the judgement had been cast, and all of it had been borne by Lord Jesus Himself, the Son of Man, whom God sent specially to save man. Jesus bore it upon himself, became a curse, so you can take his place in heaven, but in order for His sacrifice to work, you need to know Jesus!

Know the man who sacrificed for you and believe in it. Accept His sacrifice for you. When you put your faith in knowing that you can stand before God, righteous and blameless, because you're covered and paid for by the blood of Jesus, you can 'come boldly' before God and call Him when you have a need. Christianity is a relationship with God. When you know Him, you'll know how he is like. Being a Born again believer means that He has already given you a new Heart (or spirit) that is of God. His heart is in you. Therefore, abominable acts don't sit well with Him, and when you commit those, you will know you've done something that would have displeased the Lord.

But worry not. You're righteous because of Jesus, but repent and get rid of the hold that the devil has on you by your last sin. Confess it to God (Even if He already knows) to clear your heart from guilt by withholding from God. It's not confessing to ask for forgiveness, it's repentence knowing you already HAVE forgiveness.

Simarly, when you fellowship with the Lord more, by Cultivating his Presence, that is, getting to know Him more the way you would to a friend, ie. Talking to the Lord, simply worshipping Him, spending sometime with the Word (Bible) and simply being God conscious or aware of His presence with you all the time. God will impart his nature to you, that is to be Christlike and walk without sin. Of course, we don't have a new body, not before the end times, but all we need to do is to confess and repent knowing you have forgiveness and you DON'T HAVE TO EARN forgiveness because Jesus has fulfilled the 10 commandments for you already. Thank Jesus, rather for his work on the tree. Thank Him, and know that Jesus is the WAY.

"How do I pray an effective prayer?"
1) Do not pray to God as a way to impress others. Before you pray, remember your main focus: to communicate to God in a way that you would communicate to a friend through phone. No one else is involved in this conversation, it's only you and God. Prayer is a way of asking God for something, a way of comfort; however, more importantly, it is a way of glorifying God, expressing your love for Him in prayer. If your focus is off God and you start praying so that others might think, "wow, he/she is a super Christian", your prayer is not a prayer at all.

2) Make it simple. I hear so many people trying to come up with the most clever thing to say to God, again, as a way to impress others. Forget about it. If your vocabulary isn't all that great, who cares? Just pray how you would normally have a conversation. Remember, God knows us best, and it says in the Bible that "your Father knows what you need before you ask him."

3) Of course there are many places in the Bible that talk about prayer, but I find Matthew 6:5-15 a great guideline in prayer.

"Is knowing God enough to get me to Heaven?"
If only it were that easy xD...j/k j/k

Let's look at the book of James. In chapter 2 verse 19, James states that "You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that--and shudder.

To know about God is not enough, but you must experience His redeeming grace. To know about what He did in the Bible is not enough, but you must be saved by the blood of Jesus Christ himself. To confess that you are a sinner and to accept Jesus Christ, as Your Lord and Savior is a must in attaining Salvation. Jesus Christ is the key to heaven, for it says "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

"I tried, but I can't put all my faith in Him, or love Him with all my heart! What should I do?"
You have to remember that loving God is not a one-day thing. It takes time and effort to love God. Once you've accepted God as who He is, you will start to see changes in your life. You will see changes which will make you respond with joy and praises to God, and some changes that will hurt and will have you respond by leaning on God. All these life experiences will help you with your relationship with God.

Daily devotionals also help your relationship with God. You can't be friends with someone if you don't talk to them or hang out with them. You relationship with your parents would be horrible if you never speak to them or open up to them. It is the same thing with God; spend a part of your time in prayer and in reading the Word. And reading the Word is one of the ways God uses to communicate to you. So remember, God speaks to you through situations, the Word, and sometimes can literally speak to you. And in return, you talk to him through prayer, and you start to build that relationship. As time goes by, you'll start to see change in your own life and start to worship God out of love and joy.

"What are spiritual gifts? Do I have one?"
If you are saved, then yes, you have spiritual gifts. Spiritual gifts are basically God-given "abilities" or skills, or anything from God that: 1) glorifies God (MOST IMPORTANT), and 2) edifies the church (brothers and sisters in Christ). As you are being filled with the Spirit, the Holy Spirit enables you to use such gifts, and because every person in church is unique (see 1 Corinthians 12:12-31), we all have different gifts that will be to glorify God and for the benefit of others.

Remember that in order to use gifts, one MUST be filled with the Spirit. I'll give a couple of examples. Acts 2:4 - All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Luke 1:41 - His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied. Finally Exodus 35:31 - and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts.

Read Acts 8: 9-25 for an awesome story and description about gifts and the no-no's about Simon the Sorcerer.

Finally, I'll give you guys a list of gifts in the Bible:
1 Corinthians 12:1-14
Gift of wisdom, knowledge, discerning of spirits, prophecy, tongues, interpretation, faith, miracles, healing

Romans 12:6-8
Gift of ministry, exhortation (encouragement), teaching, giving, leading, showing mercy

Ephesians 4:11
Gift of apostles (building churches :D), evangelists, pastors and teachers

What is Faith? How do I get it?

There are two kinds of Faith, one that is from the flesh. E.W. Kenyon wrote a book about 'Two kinds of Faith'. He expounded on the root of 'Faith' and 'Believe'.

From his view, 'Believe' is an action word, verb. Thus, you only believe after having seen, heard, experienced it for yourself through the five senses of the flesh. Not committing before having some sort of confirmation through evidence.

By contrast, 'Faith' is different altogether. Faith is mindset, without grounds. It seldom happens. At the very basic level, most family members trust each other that each other will come to rescue at the other in times of need, unlike living with a bunch of strangers. You only let your guard down after living with strangers for a while, after a 'testing' period.

Man's faith is such that they want to try first, and see 'if it works'. That's why many a times, Christians need to go through their own bit of trials before finally allowing Jesus in their lives. Their experience will allow other people to relate to, serving as a method of 'testing' for skeptical people. That sort of skeptical behaviour stems from Satan's nature of selfishness, only wanting good for self. Mentality such that 'I'll go to heaven by doing this' is selfish. Some people only want to sit in a church and hear over thousands of testimonies before 'investing'. That is natural.

God's faith that he imparts, is different. We have nothing to see by, nothing to literally listen to. That's why it's very difficult for many to believe. Why doesn't God just show himself then? The reason is that nobody can see him and continue to live after that, which was recorded in Exodus:

"you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live" (Ex 33:20)

The reason being that Man is now sinful and unworthy, and made sinners after Adam and Eve, therefore, to see God would mean seeking perishment. God's Holiness and Glory would destroy everything including men should he show Himself to men.

Besides, if you need to see all the time to believe, then that's no faith. That's still selfishly clinging on to facts.

For we walk by faith and not by sight, learn to ask God for the gift of Faith, so you can safely depend and lean on Him for everything without doubt. I find this to be difficult myself, because it means literally letting go. For humans it's like standing at the top of a building and letting go in knowing God will catch you. Don't give up though. It takes experience and time. When you've seen God work for you long enough, you'll slowly let Him take charge.

This applies to the Word too. The Bible is God-breathed, and He speaks to us through the Bible, faith in the Word is also applicable in daily cases. There is no point in believing God exists but refuse to listen to his Word or disbelieve the Bible. Lastly, apart from knowing, believing, you should act out of Faith. It's doing a particular thing, when you strongly believe in it. A demonstration of faith. God sometimes wants you to let him know you mean it, when you're asking for tons of favours and stuff. Because all in all, He wants to have a close relationship with you, and wants you to know that YOU CAN TRUST HIM.

So how do I do that? You can ask for help! Going to church is one great start. Or you can join caregroups. Faith comes by listening to the Word of God. Pastors have been anoited by God to interpret the Bible and give fresh revelation to people, that's why they are important. When you struggle on your own, it feels boring, but to feel God's presence, see other people listening to the sermon with you makes you feel included, and not alone in this. Finding a good church is important in faith building. If you don't feel comfortable with a pastor's way of preaching, find another one. There's no use listening to someone you can't relate to.

Alternatively, do praise and worship to cultivate his presence. The more you know someone, the easier you trust him or her. Same with God.

==
Conclusion:

- 2 kinds of faith: Faith of the Flesh - dependent on sense evidence, Faith of the Spirit - not dependent on senses, but by the Word of God

- Hearing the Word, talking to an experienced church member, finding out more about God through the Bible, sites to help.

Should I talk to the devil if I suspect that one is around?

No. You have no business with evil spirits, because it is not your fight. This World 'Aion' is the time period of Satan's rebellion against God. Satan drags people into the mess because he wants to rule, there has to be something to rule against. That's why he in the serpent form deceived Eve to partake in the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge.

The fight carries on in this World, and in the air as well. Evil spirits have no body, no form, but they can move, speak, possess someone without the Holy Spirit. They possess great knowledge and are wise. They are many, but the father of fallen angels is Satan (Lucifer before he fell.) He was the most magnificent angel once, and called the Bearer of Light. He got caught up with vanity and pride and therefore was cast out of Heaven. His selfish nature is seen in all men after the Tree of Knowledge incident. Satan has great wisdom beyond that of man, and their evil spirits wander the earth for as long as God allows them to.

Therefore, do not underestimate demons, they are cunning and smart. They observe people, and know their habits as well. It is easy to call them ghosts (souls of dead people) because evil spirits can imitate them, in voice, know things that they only know. Devils cannot read your mind, but they know your weak spots. They continually whisper things in your head that can persuade and influence you to commit sin.

They are more than willing to entertain you if you call out to them, but when they come, they don't usually leave, because it is in them that agony of humans are their happiness. Not that they enjoy tormenting people, but it's also part of their 'to do' list. The glory of God causes them great sorrow. They know the Bible well, recognise those who have power over them, and tremble in the presence of righteous ones. Satan's strongest trait is Lies. He is the father of Lies. Therefore even if you engage them, nothing that comes out of their mouths is a truth.

Like believers, there are strong ones and weaker ones out there, but never underestimate them, for they return to house and upon finding it empty, gather 7 spirits more wicked than the first. Like sins, they are vengeful. DO NOT INVITE them in any case.

Beware of people who claim that they can speak to the dead, for they lie, and in any case where a geniune exchange takes place is when the evil spirits imitate the voices and traits of the dead one. Demons can also give temporal powers such as supernatural strength and foretelling of the future, but they are of Satan, counterfeits of God. Notice all these only encourage man into thinking and believing that being like God is attainable. Such acts only serve to tempt man and spread false doctrines.

One way is priests and exorcists do is to bind them, in the name of Jesus and cast them out. But beware, believers who have weak faith and foundation can easily bring it upon themselves. Demons may choose to keep silent, but they can torment and continually put doubts in your head. That's why it's best not to talk to them. They are stronger than man, but defeated before Jesus. Therefore put God as first and foremost in your life, and God will be your shield, He'll go before you, and with you and fight for you.

Yes you should talk to them when you try to cast them out. Even Jesus talked directly to demons when casting them out.

^ If they are not willing to get out. The one instance where Jesus directly asked the name of the devil (whose name was legion, for they are many within one person). Jesus knew there was more than one hence he asked the name. But in the case for non-experienced believers, asking the devil without proper knowledge of binding will get a lie from the demon anyway (ie. either lying that there is nothing wrong, then proceed to slander and accusations.)

People with the gift of spiritual discernment, will be able to be guided by God to identify what spirit it is to cast it out effectively.

It depends on the circumstances too though. For instance, when I was 10 or 11 I witnessed an excorsism (casting out of a demon) at a youth conference I was at... this girl who was around my age just started freaking out and swearing and my youth leader and a few others went over and prayed that the demon be gone and it left after a while. The girl was really scared and just. it was a terrifying experience.

now just as a clarification, demons are not the devil. The devil is one while demons are many (aka legion) the devil is also referred to as lucifer (the angel that was cast from heaven) and satan while demons are his "evil minions" who are the ones that generally come in contact with humans... though is what some peopel think is correct they are only the minor demons but whatever, that's not important.

I see. I've been using the two terms interchangeably. I guess I usually use 'Satan' to refer to well, Satan and Lucifer, and 'evil spirits' to refer to 'evil spirits', the ones you call 'minions'. I hardly doubt Satan himself will bother harassing normal, unbeliving people. His fallen angels, the demons do that for him. What do you think he does then?

Shake legs at home? I really have no idea. Attack the really strong believers? Claim souls? In front of a mirror?

(If you see the term 'The Angel of God' in a Bible, it is referring to Jesus, though.)

I dont know whether or not Satan comes in contact with people... I think, though, that it's the evil spirits that possess people and come into physical contact where as Satan does the same in a spiritual sense... if that makes sense.
