Bump on this, would like to see this on the PS3. If you are having problems getting Sony to respond perhaps contacting Nintendo would be the next choice. There are tons of Wii consoles out there so that's another option.

Hey if Sony won't reply move on to the next. Might as well make the suggestion but hey I want it on the PS3 first and foremost. But if they don't work with CR might as well not leave empty handed on seeing it on another system.

The only way you'd be able to develop an ap for the ps3 would be to get hold a development console, those cost around $2000 last time i loosked, although i could be wrong. Oh or the full dev kit hich is $10,000.

That was back in 09, the dev kits prices may have dropped some by now.

I can't afford either so I haven't even attempted to look into how to buy one, but i'm pretty sure you need to go through a comittee to get hold of one, they're pretty damn protective of the things.

You might have better luck finding a local games company etc and trying to get them to make the ap for you, or at least publish it.

I say this mostly because they're not likely to sell one when you're just making a single application.

I doubt Netflix had to buy a development console and make an app using it and I doubt Crunchyroll would have to either...

I can almost garuntee you that they did, games companies are VERY picky about what gets onto their systems. Before you can even get hold of a devkit your design has to be approved. The devkit itself is a way of testing your game, or in this case application. So for instance you can make an emulated version of the crunchyap, but you'd need to test it on the devkit to make sure it works before pushing it out.

The same way they didn't just launch the ios ap, they tested it on an iphone, its just that in this case you need an overpriced dev console.

add to that the fact they'll actually have to code it for ps3. (Can't use a premade game engine for this kind of thing) they'll run into the issues all the earlier games companies did, such as limited memory, specific sony libraries that they can use, limited languages, almost garuntee that the program will lock if you don't make perfect threads.

But as i said in the previous post though, they might be able to get a third party to make the ap for them. This is most probably what netfix did. Although considering that they already have just under 600m in profit, the devkit would be pocket money, especially if it could improve their subscriber base.

OK wowfood clearly doesn't know what he's talking about...

anyway, like other people in this thread have said, i watch Crunchyroll on my PS3 pretty often and i would love to see an official CR PS3 app so that i could easily browse videos and watch them in HD on my PS3.

i also have an Xbox 360 and Wii so an app on any of those platforms would be nice, but PS3 is my primary console.

clearly you have no idea what you're talking about. All it takes is a little research.

While we're still waiting for our PS3 price drop, Sony has announced the release of a newer, cut-rate PlayStation dev kit. While the current Reference Tool is priced at a mere $10,250 and has all the personality of a Betamax VCR, this new guy is going for a jaw-droppin' $2,000 and shares the PS3 form factor -- not that you're buying these things for aesthetic purposes, but it's true! The company promises "enhanced technical support for developers, an optimized PS3 compiler (SNC PPU) to improve efficiency, and better documentation for PhyreEngine." Looks like Sony's hoping sales will benefit from the "flood" of new releases this move is sure to instigate. Unless, of course, this was one of the demands of the Sony France hostage debacle. Libération de la PlayStation!

Notice how that includes the ps3 compiler as part of the devkit. Without that compiler it is impossible to make games for the ps3.

Now if you have no idea what you are talking about please keep your inane opinions to yourself.

Also, i've found the means which CR should be taking to get a hold of one of these devkits (even if it did take a little digging)

Thats the eu site

And following is the US / NA site.

doubt it'd see the light of day on the 360 in America, let alone outside, but seeing as CR can be a paid service, hmm maybe. That was the reason why BBC iPlayer wasn't aloud on Xbox 360 because of it being a free to use service. Would love to see it though, if not i can just stick to iPad XD

If you guys made a PS3 app I would totally pay for a membership!

Anything we CR users can do to help expedite the process?
