You can stop now wowfood...really, you don't know what you are talking about. You're "research" has nothing about making an APP for the PS3. If anything, that would be for games, as in real games. They do not need to buy a special PS3 to make an app. Yes, they may want to have someone to make one for them, but that's another story. A little common sense goes a long way...

Anyway, any updates on this? Trying to watch CR on my PS3 by bookmarking, shutting off, and restarting is giving my PS3 a heart attack, lol, and watching on web browsers is annoying as all get out since shockwave keeps failing even though it's up to date.

Development for the PS3 is closed. So, in order to make an app, we need to go through the proper channels to secure access before we can even start development. The only video apps I see are from companies that are much much bigger than ours so things aren't looking good.

I'm sorry but the only person here who clearly has no idea what they're talking about is quoted in this post. Every console requires a license or devkit to develop for. Whether its a game or an application they require the same thing. All the devkit is pretty much is a test console and a compiler. You have to go through the same deal to develop for any platform... Except android which is free.

Iphone - a license, and a mac. The license running at £60, although you're paying through the nose for the iphone / mac in the first place (if you don't own them before hand)

wii development - $2000-$10,000 as well as filling in an application

PS3 i posted about earlier

Xbox is fairly cheap. XNA is free, and you only need pay a $100 license fee to get hosted.

Please, if you're going to call bullshit at least give some evidence as to how / why I'm wrong. Y'know considering one of us actually does some of this stuff while the other is clearly a moron. (i'll give you a hint, i'm not the other)

On a slightly different note, they're actually more protective of application development than they are of games. Games only require a small subset to gain access, while a fully ranged application uses a far wider range of resources. Because of this it not only opens up the application to more bugs, but it also opens up the application to well, break into the ps3 so to speak.

This is the reason they're so protective about this stuff. If they were to license this out to anyone then people could hack the ps3 (although thats already happened now) or have the ability to release viruses or malware which target the ps3. (without a compiler to make these its very difficult to target the ps3 platform)

I'm gonna leave this topic now anyway, since they're having to follow the official channels if support does eventually come then we'll hear about it. No point wasting more breath on idiots.

Aww, that sucks. Well, I guess it's getting close to time to decide whether or not I'm going to keep a subscription until I can get a box of some sort. Watching it the way I have to now is almost more work than it's worth. :(

I think we're revisiting the idea of a DLNA server which would allow people to view our videos on DLNA compliant devices like the PS3. It's not ideal but it could be a start.

All the current video apps probably required each company to shell out a lot of money to get on there. For example, Vudu is owned by Walmart which had loads of money to throw at Sony. Same goes for all the other companies the have video apps I see on there.

Though we're still pursuing the option of a PS3 app, trying to get in contact with the proper people.

Did you get anywhere with the correspondance I sent through? Or did that wind up as a dead end also.

We did get in contact with someone at Sony through some other source but I haven't heard much so I'm guessing we still haven't gotten anywhere with that.
