In a far away land, shielded from all sides by mountains, dwells the Valley of Zabardast. This land is inaccessible to the outside world and its inhabitants know of no world outside their own.

Sheridan paused and bent down and plucked the flower from the bush. She was oblivious to the hostile glances coming her way from the farmers, but Erik wasn't. He stayed by her side as she walked down the dirt path, heading to her favorite spot to paint.

She settled down by the edge of the hill, looking out at the beautiful scenery that dotted the landscape and put up her canvas as she began to arrange her stuff.

Erik leaned against the tree, coughing gently into his hander kerchief, his eyes watchful as he looked carefully over her. He felt sad at the current situation, Westmoreland had once been a peaceful kingdom, but recently the situation was deteriorating, the King refused to acknowledge it but the tide was changing, the people who had once adored him were now dissatisfied.

Erik looked up at the clear sky and inhaled deeply, a storm would be here by night time. He looked at the girl in front of him as she serenely drew her painting and his face softened.
He would protect her just as he had promised the king he would.

Drained of her energy, Loreilei panted heavily. It was nightfall by the time she reached the village at the foot of the mountain. Her eyes glowed at the sight of humans but she bit her lips to fight the desire back down. now is not the time to go all monster on monsters

she kept herself in the shadows, occasionally icking up bits and pieces of the conversation among the gossiping villagers.

"did you hear? that girl was on the hilltop again. i won't let my kids approach her, i'm telling you!" one villager said at the top of his voice.

"yeah! why does she live in luxury while we are working our ass of here!? I say down with the King!"

and there were roars and applause. Loreilei sighed. are these what they are always on about? wars and rebels when they are done killing others, she thought vehemently. shivering a little at that bloodthristy conversation, she crept into a stable, calmed a horse and fell asleep till daylight

It was past midnight and the rain beat hard against the window pane; most of the castle was sound asleep.

Erik sat in the kitchen, sipping a hot brew in his hand. He drew in a ragged breath and drank more of the soothing liquid. His ears perked up as he heard footsteps and turned his head as the King entered.

The cook bowed deeply to him and immediately began preparing a late night meal for the king, as had been custom for years now.
"How are you feeling?" King Royce asked. He looked at Erik's gray face in a mixture of affection and concern and slid into a chair across from him.
"I am the same,' Erik said, smiling faintly. "Worse on same days, better on others." A spasm of coughing took him over and he quickly leaned forward and drank the medicine.
Royce sighed deeply and leaned back in his chair, 'It is days like these that I regret doing what I did," He said, his kind face looking weary. "Being away from the dragon stone weakens you more everyday."

"And yet, I am still amongst the strongest men on the land," Erik said with a soft chuckle. "It was as much my choice as yours, Master, do not fret." He turned serious and added, "However, you do need to be concerned with the situation in your kingdom. The people are turning more hostile everyday."
Royce sighed, "I am aware of that. With the pirates ravaging the seas and the bandits looting the lands, it is no wonder they are discontent," he began to halfheartedly eat his meal, "The situation worsens everyday."

Blood, blood, blood. Why must some people lust for blood?

As the young woman walked through the field of injured bandits which had planned to invade the nearest village, she looked at the moon, her weakness, the first thing she had seen after her "rebirth". "This land is getting more and more impure. Hatred, loss, jealousy, lies, wrath and the attacks of pirates and bandits. What is goind to happen to Zabardast?" She said to nobody and anyone. Clouds hid the sky and the woman started to walk to the village, when she heard a whimper behind her.

She turned to the sound and saw a little boy hiding behind a tree, having a shocked expression in his face. The young woman approached him slowly, trying not to scare him. But he looked at the two swords she held in each hand. She smiled at him. "D., Luna. Change back to your original forms. Show him that you aren´t frightening." The swords started to glow black and white and when it ended, two little rabbits -one in white and the other one in black- appeared on the ground. They hopped to the boy and looked up at him.
"Are you going to hurt me? I´m not a bandit, so please don´t hurt me." The boy´s voice was a scared whisper and he looked at the injured people behind the woman and her pets.
"No. I´m not hurting innocent people so you don´t have to be afraid. My name is Ryora and the black rabbit is D. and the white one Luna. And yours?"
"Ren. My name is Ren" His voice didn´t sound as scared as it was before.

King Royce's mind wandered off into the times of peace when his predessor held the throne. oh, how much he looked up to him! and then he remembered being at the King's deathbed, sobbing as his King wasted his last breath of trying to push some last minute wisdom into the then-younger him.

King Royce shut his eyes tightly. "A king must not shield tears in front of the people," he remembered his King repeating over and over again.

"My Lord?" and King Royce's eyes snapped open.

Erik was looking a little worried at his spacing off Master.

"I'm sorry. It's been a long day. I am going to the bedchambers. You, too, should turn in early."

Erik stood quickly and bowed the King out of the tiny place. Erik watched his Majesty's back disappear into the darkness. Then, he took his cloak and stepped out of the kitchen into the storm before disappearing into the night.

On the far end of the kingdom, a girl was shivering. SHe rubbed her eyes opened and realised it wasn't the cold she was shivering from. Lightning flashed across the sky but it was long enough for her to make out a group of unruly men standing around. They were staring intently at her,no, with eyes of pure evil.

"Well well well, looks like the storm did not bring bad luck at all. We got a prize gentlemen!" and the group of men roared. The one who spoke reached out to grip her left arm tightly. Loreilei winced in pain.

"oh still fresh," the man said as he thrust his face into her hair.

I don't want to do this! Loreilei thought wildly as she struggled. Please let me sleep!

"woah, she has the strength. I like strong women," her captor smirked. Loreilei finally opened up and the next moment happened in confusion. The captor was struck down by his teammate who also attack the rest. Loreilei fell to the ground as her captor was knocked out.

Struggling from under his weight, she made a clean escape as the men were preoccupied with this sudden betrayal. Crying, she ran away as fast as she can in the rain with her bare feet.

Erik walked down the muddy path, the rain beating down on him. He raised his head towards the sky and inhaled the wet air deeply, the scent rejuvenating him like no other.

He continued to walk down the pathway through the forest, heading towards the cliff.

His ears perked up when he heard a sound and he stopped, turning his head slowly; a dark shape suddenly burst out of the trees.
He barely blinked and side stepped to avoid the girl colliding in to him.
She however yelped out in surprise as her foot caught in a root and went almost sprawling face first into the mud.
Erik caught her arm, "Are you okay?" He asked Lorelei.
****

Twigs crunched and Ryora turned around when she heard the noise.
"That is some impressive skill with the sword..." A man said with an impressed smile as he stepped out of the trees.
Ryora tensed but he held up both hands, "I'm not an enemy."
"Who are you?" She asked.
"A philosopher, a rebel, a warrior." He laughed, "I change my roles everyday."
"Rebel...?" She asked.
The man held his hand out to the boy, "Come on, I'll drop you back home." He said kindly.
The boy hesitated then slowly walked to him and give him his hand trustingly.
"If you want to do something to change the current situation in this kingdom, come here." He gave her a paper with an address.
"Come alone." The man said with a wink and walked off.

Loreilei shook him off, and looked at him with a frightened expression. and then she dashed away into the darkness.

Erik looked around at the sound of a tinkling of a metal piece. With his keen eyes, he spotted an ice-like pendant of a snowflake. The snowflake was no ordinary snowflake with depictions of what looks like snow bunnies. he clenched it in his fist and looked in the direction of where the girl disappeared. somehow, that symbol seemed familiar and some weird feeling arose. deja vu?

Loreilei sobbed hard in the rain as she finally reached a deserted back alley. SO painful...and memories of bruing inferno came back in flashes. she could still smell the burning flesh in the world of dog eat dog mentality. why must everyone suffer? is it our fault we are born like this?

"You dropped this," a voice boomed hard in the soft rain. "it wasn't easy finding you so i expect something in return."

Loreilei looked around and saw a blurred shadow coming into view, Loreilei wanted to open her mouth but stopped. she didn't want to have people slash themselves, so she stepped back slowly.

The shadow stopped moving, as if trying to decide whether to approach or not.

"Man, you sure are cold."

and the man dropped to one knee and rolled the pendant over to her. he turned around to walk away but not before saying, "i will be awaiting your arrival. i am not a barbarian. if you need help, just ask. i will be at the Hangman Inn every other night for a drink."

and he disappeared into the next alley. Loreilei stooped down to pick up the pendant and looked into the distance. what's next?

Ryora looked at the adress on the paper the mysterious rebel gave her.

Bilok Village. House of Light. Passwort: Kingdom´s revival

Ryora was uncertain what she should do. She didn´t really knew much about Zabardast but in many villages there was a group of people who were against the king. Because Ryora was a wanderer she didn´t have anything to do with the rules of the countries and their political problems.
"What should I do with this?" Ryora turned to D. and Luna waving the piece of paper in the air. They spoke to each other in their own language with "Pakyuu" and "Pyuu" sounds. Even thought this extraordinary rabbits looked only cute they were extremly intelligent and Ryora could rely on them.
D. faced Ryora and made some gestures.

Ryora smiled. "Ok, so we are in for a little adventure my little friends."

The three of them walked towards Bilok Village, not knowing what would await them.

Ryora came across a large wooden house; she looked around and then knocked on the door.
At first there was no sound and then the door slowly opened, giving her permission to enter.

She entered and stopped when she saw the scene inside; people were lounging around drinking, many were playing cards or rolling dice. The mood seemed festive and relaxed.
She felt a tap on her shoulder and saw the man from earlier, "Hello," He said with a bright smile.
"Some rebellion..." She said looking around and he gave her an innocent smile, "What rebellion? We are just innocent folks-men relaxing after work." He winked at her.
She blinked and he grinned.
"Come on." He ushered her to a table and sat her down, taking a chair across from her and he picked up a deck of card and began to shuffle them.
"Names Les by the way." The man asked looking at her curiously, "I haven't seen you around here, where are you from?"

Erik's walk in the rain soothed his chest and he was breathing much easier as he slipped into the inn and settled into his favorite seat in the dark.
He ordered a strong drink and listened to the conversation floating around. Even though, the conversation seemed light and nonthreatening he caught bits and pieces that pricked his interest.
The door opened and he saw a slim shape walk in. It was the girl from before; she looked around, spotted him and started towards him then stopped, hesitating.
He gave a slight nod and she made her way towards him.
"Hello..." She said a little nervously and Erik gestured to the seat opposite him.
"Would you like something to drink?" He asked and she hesitated then nodded.
He placed an order and then looked at her; his gold eyes glimmering hypnotically in the firelight.
"So you came," He said to Loreilei. "What is your name?"

"From everywhere and nowhere. I´m only a mere wanderer who wants to explore the world." The smile on her face was made up. Somehow she knew that this men weren´t relaxing. Even if it looked like, their eyes followed Ryora´s movements. It´s a recruitment. They want to test me. D. also watched the people in the house. He was doubting the situation like she did.

The man named Les held his cards in his hands. She took her cards and looked at the odd cards. On the first one, there was a faceless king, one the second one poor people cried out of hunger and unfairness. The third and forth showed an army of farmers and how they were destroing a castle. And on the last card was a rising sun, shining on the peaceful valley of Zabardast which she could recognize.
"Oh, we play Kingdom´s revival? What an interesting game. The people seem to be unhappy." Ryora choose purposely the password he gave her, trying to attract his attention. And it worked.
Les´s eyes darkened and you could feel the tension increasing. He looked at her and said "King Royce isn´t as nice as he may seem. We people are suffering because of his decisions. Some families don´t even have the money to feed their children or pay the high taxes. We want to dethrone him and make our people happy."

There was only silence at the end of his words, even the dice players stopped their play. The unsaid question flew through the room and Ryoras answer would decide her future.
"I will see what you can show me. Only then will i choose if I join you. But if I decline I swear an oath that I´ll not tell the king about your plans." She stood up and leaved the house, followed by her partners and the gazes of the rebels.

Loreilei clasped her hands to her mouth. I shouldn't have spoken! Glancing nervously at the stranger, she thought phew...looks like he is not affected by one word...that was close Loreilei shook her head and her face was down.

"Not a talkative type, huh..." Erik murmured. He turned to observe her and took note.

"A slim body, pale skin and fiery amber eyes. Silver blue hair and a flawless face but what's with that defeated look?" he mumbled to himself. His drgon self got irritated. Weakness was not tolerated in his world. Then again, he might not be regarded as one of the greatest dragon anymore. His innate senses of a dragon, however, was warning him against this frail body. This weak looking girl? Interesting...

"well, what would you like?" Erik asked, with a hint of annoyance. His companion was too lost in her own world. He repeated with a louder voice.

Loreilei's head snapped up and looked frightened for a moment. Breathing heavily, she edged a little further from him but she pointed out to the cup of orange juice at the next table. Erik shouted his order to the barman and reminded her of their deal. Loreilei took out a small pouch and overturned it. Out fell a small golden crown.

"WHat?! are you expecting to pay with that in this dingy bar?? Just who are you?" Erik asked in a booming voice.

Loreilei looked at him, unexpectantly defiant. The bar went quiet and everyone turned to look in their direction. Erik ignored them and demanded an explanation. Looking straight into her eyes, he saw shadows of chaos in the depths of her fiery eyes. Shocked, he could only stare at the weak looking being yet so full of mysteries, no, danger...

Loreilei stood up and pushed the crown into his hand. Then, she left.

"Sire...your order..?" The barman asked nervously. Erik's pulse vein was throbbing. What do they take him for? He waved the barman aside and left without finishing his drinks. Running throught the torrential rain, he could make out the disappearing back of a slim figure.

"Hey you! STOP!" The girl stopped in her tracks and turned a fraction to see who this rude guy was. Without warning, he grabbed her collar. She got lifted a few feet above ground.

"You think I am one of those humans whose eyes glistened at the sight of gold!? You think I am someone who demands something in return for a tiny bit of favour!? I've seen more gold that you have in your life!! I demand an apology," Erik said menacingly.

"You are surprisingly short-tempered for a tame dragon," a shocking clear yet melodious voice emerged from the pale girl. Erik got caught by surprise at how beautiful a girl's voice can be. He let go of his hand and she fell gracefully to her feet, with a soft riple of the puddles of water on the ground. "Leave me alone if you don't want to be caught in my pace."

Erik obediently stepped back but realised quickly he was being manipulated by mere words. Angry with himself, he stalked after her.

"How did you know who I really am? I don't even know you!" he shouted through the storm. From afar, he could see her eyes looking into his as she turned. then, it was as if he could read her mind. You know the answer, don't you? You knew even before we met at the bar.

Loreilei sent another telepathic message. Let me confirm your doubts

The world around them faded into darkness, leaving two of them in a blank world, a world made of themselves. Breathing in slowly, Loreilei's eyes turned red and she opened a mouth slightly to reveal growing incisor teeth.

"Fangs...of a vampyre..." Erik muttered as his memory took him back to the time of his chaotic dragon days.

"don't group me with those bloodthirsty demons!" she said in a controlled anger tone.

Raindrops fell onto his clothes. He looked around and saw that they had returned back to the quiet village. Loreilei had disappeared into the distance. Erik looked at his hands and saw a crumpled note. The cursive handwriting wrote:

"I would look out for my loved ones if I'm you. My existence brings about chaos and death."

It was raining heavy and you could only see a few metres around you. Ryora was looking at the scene while she searched for an Inn where she could stay overnight.
As she found a nice-looking house, a movement on her left side caught her attention. Her gaze spotted a figure of a guy standing on the outside of the village starring at the forest as if he was waiting for someone. Before she knew what she was doing, Ryora began to march toward the boy but was stopped when Luna and D. started to sneeze.
The boy turned around. It was like he had heard the rabbits but that couldn´t be. The rain was to loud to hear anything farther than half a meter. He shock his had and walked away leaving her alone. Ryora decided to let things be and walked into the Inn.

An old man was sitting behind the counter and raised his head with a warming smile.
"Good evening young girl. How can I help you?" His voice was as warm as his smile and Ryora noticed that she smiled back.
"Seems like mother nature doesn´t allow me to sleep under the sky and this house looked so tempting I saw me unable to resist it."
The old man laughed and took a key from under something in the shape of a bureau.
After Ryora got the key and paid for the night she tried asking a few things.
"So... It seems like there are quite some people not satisfied with your king."
The Inn owner sighed and his smile faded. "These dumb young men aren´t bad but they think that king Royce is responsible for the bandits and pirates which lately storm into the villages and plunder and kill randomly. King Royce is a nice man. I think he will do something about it when the time comes." The old guy looked sadder than before. "Les and his men don´t understand anything. They target the false one and are supported by the false person."

"What do you mean by that? Who does support them?" Ryora asked as the old man didn´t say anymore. He shock his head. "I already said too much. I don´t want them to get in trouble. Please understand this."
And Ryora understood. She got some interesting informations and sorted the puzzle in her head.

"Who is she..." Erik whispered to himself as he watched her disappear.
The sky had begun to get lighter, indicating the approaching day, although the overcast was still heavy.
He turned and began to slowly walk back home; Lorelei's words ringing in his head. His fists clenched, I'll protect them. He thought grimly. I'll protect them at all cost..
****
Les blew out the smoke from his cigarette and looked at his fellow men, "The time has almost come for us to take action," he said. "Charles has started on his journey and will arrive here within the week. We will not stand for this oppression any more. If a leader cannot rule strongly then he should be disposed off."
"AYE." The men yelled, raising their tankards of ale. They toasted to their future and drank heavily . Soon, everyone began heading home.

Finally, Les was the only one left. He sat by the window and stared out as the downpour became a drizzle and the sky began to lighten.
The girl Ryora was on his mind.
