The Boss stood at the clearing where Grandon and his comrads had been defeated by an unknown person. Despite what he had said to his underling, he investigated the incident. Nothing was more troublesome than a suspected nameless killer.

He bend down to touch a wound of Grandon. From the shape and depth of it he could assume that it had been a sword or better a katana. It was obvious how brutal Grandon and his comrades deaths were. Netherless he felt nothing inside his heart. No loss of pain or anger. Grandon had been an idiot since he knew him and it wasn´t surprising how he ended.

The bandit looked into the forest. Maybe the anonymous killer hid himself there. If not he would search in other places.

2 days later, Charles Westmoreland sat between the large group of rebels in their secret hideout.
Les stood by his side and raised a hand to quiet everyone.

"Looks like the time has come folks." He called above the hubbub.
"AYE." A loud cheer went up.
"We're through with this weak leadership. We want a leader who knows what we want and knows what must be done." He yelled above the noise.
People began to clap and stomp their feet.

Charles stood up, his black hair slicked back, his face handsomely charming as he smiled at the ground, a trustworthy smile on his lips.
"I will not let you down." He said in a deep voice and the crowd cheered his name, hopes filling their hearts.
"I will take down my brother and take my place at the throne and then all our worries will be dealt one by one."
"LONG LIVE KING CHARLES." A scream went around the hideout.

"ahh ahh" a young man whimpered and fell limp. His companion was too frightened to run. The killer seemed to have enough and left the weak man alone

"monster..." the survivior managed at last. she immediately spun around and lifted her hands. serval large crystal spearheads materialised and pinned the man to the wall of the abbey. one last crystal spearhead hovered menacingly around his heart.

"Who was the one who plundered the innocent for their valuables?" the lady with red eyes hissed. the man started to wet his pants.

"pathetic," she hissed evern more angrily. "where are those guts now?"

moments later, she left the abbey and two cold bodies lay openly. It was sunrise soon and the sun bathed the bodies with an eerily warm glow. the crowing of the roosters were broken by a bloodcurling scream and a loud thud. a young maiden had dropped her milk bucket upon the sight of two lifeless haggard individuals.

"My Lord, it is most unusual," a senior doctor spoke gravely hours later. The King turned from his mountain of scrolls and narrowed his eyes.

"Is soemthing wrong? weren't the bodies ready for burning?"

"no your majesty. They are not dead. merely sitting on the brink of death since they seemed to be in an eternal sleep"

the king raised his eyebrows. "dark magic?"

The doctor pondered upon on these words, then he nodded slowly. "no magic from heavens could do this."

"but my brother won't do that...not to his own people that is...he needs an army to defeat a King's army..."the King said absentmindedly.

"i'm afraid my knowledge lies only in the field of healing. please excuse my inexperience in politics," thedoctor said quickly and bowed so slow that he could feel his bone ache.

The King merely nodded and sent him out. What is going on?

Charles was not feeling too good. That main operation had yet to begin and someone was interfereing..he had lost two good men, known for their brute strength and cruelty.

Ryora sat on a rock and locked at a waterfall which she found deep in the forest a few days ago. Since then it was something like a hideout to her. Les and the others were quite enthusiastic when they talked about the king and how to make his brother Charles become the next king. He promised much things. Too much in Ryora´s opinion.

Les had invited her to some of his lectures how she called them. It wasn´t to her liking, but as long as no innocent persons got hurt she didn´t think she should take it seriously. She walked to the lake the waterfall formed and put her feets into the water. D. and Luna joined her and splashed around.

An hour the three had fun in the water when Ryora and the bunnies turned around and Ryora shouted. "Who are you? Come out if you don´t want to get hurt!" Whoever there was, it wasn´t Les or the other rebels.

She heard low chuckles from around her and a group of about 4 men emerged from the bushes.
"What do we have here," One said. "A pretty little thing."
Ryora slowly stood up and faced them.
"Too bad it doesn't look like she has much gold on her." One said looking her up and down.
"We'll find plenty of rich merchants to fill our purses, for now let's have some fun." One said, licking his lips and lunged at her.

Ryora waved a hand and the flames disappeared leaving the burned corpses of the perverted and wicked bandits. There had been no other joice, she were trying to make them overthink their intend but in the end she had to kill again.

And again there is blood in a place I started to like.

She looked at the beautiful waterfull and was filled with a sort of sorrow. Maybe... but only maybe Les and the others are right about Royce. There aren´t any soldiers defending the villagers or scanning the area of bandits. And the people live in worry and fear.

The next several days Ryora and her partners scoured the forest even going further than a day of walj from the village and found many groups of bandits and other evil tribes. Like the many people said, Zabardast was getting more more into trouble and the king didn´t take any actions.

Les was right. A rebellion was needed. If the next king should be Charles? The time would show it.

Ryora began to attend the secret meetings.

Even though she was unsure about Charles, she could see the genuineness in Les and his closest companions for the cause they were fighting for. They really wanted to help the people and end their misery and suffering.

It took some while, but gradually Les and Ryora became good friends and began to trust one another.

The first time she heard the final plan, she retaliated strongly, "Surely there is some other way!" She said angrily but Les shook his head, "If there was, I would do it. Our last messenger to the King was slaughtered in cold blood."

"But-"

"He is blinded by his power and position and he thinks his people are worth nothing." Les said hatefully. "Such a man must not rule."

Ryora could not argue against that.

"When are you planning to attack?" She finally asked.

"Tomorrow, at midnight." Les said.

It was still morning but Les and his comrades were preparing themselves for the coming night and the rebellion. They collected lots of weapons of finest material, armors for protection and the stealed the construction plans of the palace. Charles took care of these things so the rebels didn´t have to worry for money problems. The plan to take over the kingdom was very good, but all of it had to be exactly done or it could fail. Luckily the rebels were a good organised group and got years of experience so it was most unlikely that some odd occurances might happen.

Many riots in villages and towns confused both the civilists and the army of the king. Citizens beat each others for trivial reasons. Women shouted out loud their unhappiness with their men. The orphans stole the swords and other things from the soldies who tried to please the different parties or imprison them. But nothing they did stopped them. The riots only got louder and wilder and the soldiers seemed helpless in this situation they had never faced before.

At the gates to the palace there came a small wagon with a black horse and a young woman wrapped in line. She stopped a few meters before the gigantic portal and one of the gatekeepers approached her.

"What business do you have here?" he asked.

She answered with a gentle voice. "I´m the new maid of Princess Sheridan." The girl put down her hood and the gatekeeper starred into a pair of beautiful brown eyes. He nodded and made a sign to the other keeper that he should open the portal.

The wagon rolled into the courtyard and to entrance for the servants and maids. It was easier get in herre than I thought. This brother of the king has more influence I expected. The rabbits beside her seemed to sleep but Ryora knew that D. and Luna scanned the area for a trap. But nothing happened and the three got into the palace without problems.

The first step of the plan was that Ryora should sneak into the palace as a maid of the princess and eliminate most of the guards which weren´t outside to silent the uproars. Nobody would think that a fragile-looking girl like her (or more like she acted as someone fragile) had the power to bring down dozens of men.

Ryora didn´t really accepted the plan fully. It was against her principles to kidnap people. It wasn´t right to deprive them of their liberty. If there was a choice she wanted to avoid it.

Some maids led her to the bedchember of Princess Sheridan. it was time for dinner and the maids had do dress her for it. When she opened the door a slim person with blonde hair appeared before Ryoras eyes. The person named Sheridan smiled and came to her.

"You are the new girl? You look pretty good. Don´t you think so?" The last questions was to the other two maids. Both of them nodded and got some clothes out of the closet.

Ryora bowed her head. "I´m very pleased to serve the princess of our land. There isn´t any better job I could hope for." She tried to be very obedient. Because this was what was expected of a maid.

Sheridan made a sigh and looked at her with a played evil expression. "Don´t say such a thing. You aren´t a slave who kneels before his master. No person should have to kneel to another person even if their are of low status. I want you to be my friend like Mira and Lora are to me. " She pointed at the other maids in the room. "And a friend isn´t bowing his head to because of another friend. So if you it again I have to punish you. As a friend."

The bunnies jumped delighted, but Ryora looked surprised. That was completely different of what she heard the princess was like from Charles. He had decscribed her as a bad person who liked to play with poor people. Charles will have to explain some things. Ryora thought and played her role in this mission.

"The riots are not dying down." A general of the Imperial army said.

Royce sat with his head in hands, My people are revolting against me. Royce thought in despair. He knew the situation had been getting bad, but he constantly got news that the army he sent to combat the bandits and pirates were victorious in taking down the threats. He had been told the people were being helped, then why...

"I believe they must be crushed completely." The general said. "Do not show weakness at a time like this, your majesty."

Royce rubbed his head then nodded, "Send out all the soldiers, tell them only to disarm the rioters, do not needlessly hurt anyone."

"Yes, your highness." The general walked out.

Within a few hours, most of the army had been deployed to quell the riots.

A small army of the most skilled rebels were lying in wait. As soon as they saw the army leave for the main lands, they moved in.

"So where are you from, Jasmine?" Sheridan asked, referring to Ryora with the name she had given.

"I come from a far away place. I came here two weeks ago and a friend of mine got me this job. To see a palace from within is what every girl dreams of." Ryora answered with a warm smile. Be as near to the truth as you can. That was the thing Les told her when she headed off to the palace. If it isn´t really a lie you can´t make mistakes. She could only agree.

After they finished their little smalltalk Mira and Lora dressed Sheridan and the three maids led the princess to the dining hall. The walls were filled with pictures and ornaments and on the dining table was the served food . It was a peaceful time but Ryora noticed king Royce´ nervousness. He must have heard of the riots in town and the other villages. How the soldiers weren´t able to solve anything with words. And Ryora also noticed the little amount of soldiers in the castle, Royce had sent his army outside, not sensing the danger which waited for the right time to act.

The secret group of Les was going to be in the castle in little than five hours. Till then she had to immobilize the rest of the hindrances.

One hour later the dinner was finished and Sheridan went back to her room. Before Ryora could leave to investigate the place Sheridan stopped her by putting a hand on her shoulder. She turned and faced the princess.

"I thought I could guide you through the castle. It wouldn´t be fun for you if you go into one of the private rooms of my father. Recently there are some problems and the generals are worried that my father will be attacked. And they suspect anyone who acts suspiciously. So you should be careful that nobody gets a bad impression of you." Sheridan said this with a pure heart. She meant what she said and was worried about her maids and the other people.

Ryora nodded
Sheridan couldn´t know that she helped one of people were against her father or was part of the plan to dethrone him.

Loreilei stood on the roof of the largest cathedral of the kingdom. people's strong faith in false god was keeping her out but it didn't stop here from getting a bird eyes' view of a kingdom in uproar.

fighting, blood, screams and death. when will these mortals ever learn?

Sighing heavily, she put on her hooded cloak and jumped off the roof only to land softly on the grass patch below. making no noise, she easily swerved through the angry crowd while keeping an eye out for her targets. with a flash of color, she found him! he was sneaking nehind a granary, looking for some food supplies to steal. swish, swish and the man was down as he got hit at the acupuncture points. he lay motionless as his eyes showed fear when an ominous presence approached him slowly. she liked her prey kicking.

then, he blacked out.

Moments later, the unconscious man's companion found his body and shouted frantically.

"and that would make up the number of lost men for the final battle to 6," Les said quietly. "they were not dead but neither do they appear alive."

Charles was fuming. Did the King sent a secret assassin to take out his men?

Sheridan chattered happily as she showed Royra around the palace. The princess was warm and friendly and Royra found herself liking her despite the circumstances.

It was already 10 PM by the time they finished touring the left wing, Sheridan yawned delicately, "I'll show you the east wing tomorow," she said with a smile and Royra bowed, her senses alert. She had one hour to do her job now.

Ryora followed Sheridan to her room and hung back as the other maids helped dress the princess into her night clothes.

The maids doused the candles and Royra slipped out into the dark and ran nimbly down the corridor, to begin her job.

"We will not be deterred, " Charles said to his companions, "Setbacks are only expected."
Les nodded, "We will not let their sacrifices go in vain." He muttered and his companions nodded, determination flashing across their faces.

At exactly midnight, a red flare shot out from above the castle, "Ryora was successful." Les said, feeling an unexpected surge of pride.
"Let's move in."
The rebels took off silently towards the castle.

*****

Erik's head whipped up as he smelt the blood, his gold eyes narrowed into slits and he shot up from his chair. Without a moment's hesitation, he shot down the hall and headed towards Royce's study.
Royce turned around, his face looking hopeful then surprised at seeing Erik, "I thought you might be the general bringing good news, but you look like you saw a ghost."
"Master, " Erik said, sighing in relief at seeing Royce safe. "Something is wrong."
"What is it?" Royce said, his body tensing at seeing Erik's pale expression.
"I don't know, I can smell blood-" Suddenly they heard a bell begin to chime. "It's the alarm." Royce whispered hoarsely.
"They are infiltrating the castle." Erik said, his head tilted as he listened for sounds. "I will take care of them-"
"No,' Royce said, his face white yet his voice calm and commanding, "Erik, I want you to get Sheridan out, make sure nothing happens to her."
Erik looked at him, his eyes going wide with shock and disbelief as he realized what the king intended to do.
"Don't do this." Erik said through gritted teeth and faced Royce, "When we formed the pact, I promised I'd protect your life and I will not let you hand it over to them, without a fight."
"You also promised to obey me." Royce whispered and placed his hands on Erik's shoulders, "My daughter is the rightful heir of this kingdom, I am doing all to protect the future of my people."
"Master-" Erik began again but Royce cut him off gently but firmly as he said, "It's an order."
****
Sheridan was shaken roughly and she awoke with a gasp, she sat up clutching her heart as she looked at Erik. "Erik, what-" She began, half dazed with sleep.
"Ask no questions, wear this." He said and threw a cloak over her head and slipped slippers onto her feet.
Sheridan pulled on the cloak, looking at Erik with wide eyes as he threw some dresses onto a blanket and bundled them up. "Let's go." He said and took her hand as he ran down the corridor and then up the stairs, climbing flight after flight of stairs as they headed to the tallest tower of the castle.
*****

Lorelei observed that the army did nothing to stop the rioters as they continued to cause havoc.
What's going on? She thought.

Opening the door without a sound, Ryora slipped into the bedchamber of the Princess. Each minute she had shared with the princess of Zabardast she lost more of her confidence of the accuracy of this plan. From what Ryora had seen in the last three years a child bears a part of the personality of its parents. Be it a girl or a boy. If the king was really a bad guy and didn´t care about his people and their needs, it would also be shown in what Sheridan does. But she was a caring person and she didn´t mind if one of her friends was poor.

When Ryora walked to the big bed and put the blanket back only to find it empty. She rotated once but their was no sign of her. Someone got Sheridan before her and that wasn´t good as long as she didn´t know which side got her. She went out of the room.

"D., Luna. Look for Sheridan she can´t have gotten far away." The little rabbits pointed their ears on the righ and left side of the door and snuffled in the air for any scents.
Suddenly Luna jumped and hopped towards the left wing where the princess has guided her one hour ago. But the one and only way to left it was through the towers.

They had to jump, there was no other way. Ryora started to run. She hoped that Sheridan was alright. She speeded up.

"Erik, what's going on?" Sheridan cried, panting as she was half dragged, half pulled after Erik as he ran up the steps.

"I'll explain later, " He said as he pushed open the door and they came onto the balcony of the tallest tower. A strong, cold wind blew and Sheridan clutched her cloak tightly to keep it from flapping open.

"Sheridan..." Erik said as he took a step back, "Do not be afraid."

"What?" Sheridan said, leaning against the wall, shivering from the cold. Her eyes widened as slowly Erik began to transform.
His smooth skin slowly turned scaly, his pupils changing to slits, his body lengthened and grew.

Sheridan pressed a hand to her mouth to hold in the scream that threatened to bubble out of her, her eyes wide with fear.

The fully transformed dragon crouched in front of her, looking into her eyes, not moving.

Sheridan stared at him and then whispered, "Erik?" The dragon nodded and gestured to his back with his head.

Suddenly he tensed as the door flew open and a silhouette stood at the door. "Found you, " Ryora said, panting a bit. Her eyes widened and she went still when she saw the dragon. It was the first time she had seen such a thing and for a moment she was awed into submission.

Then her eyes went to Sheridan and she drew out her swords, "If you plan to hurt her, I will kill you." She said in a steely voice.

The dragon stood up to his full height, looking magnificent and regal as he looked down at Ryora then he turned back to Sheridan and lay back on the ground again.

"Erik..." Sheridan whispered again and he nodded, looking into her eyes. She took a step forward and placed a hand on his head.

Ryora watched this and suddenly understood that the dragon was her friend.
She can escape. Ryora thought jubilantly and said, "Go on princess, you must hurry."
"Why?" Sheridan looked at Jasmine, her face looking vulnerable and scared, "What's happening, is my father okay?"
"Everything will be fine." Rora said, "But you must hurry."

Sheridan nodded and almost numbly climbed onto Erik's back. The dragon looked at Ryora for a moment before he took off into the sky.

The castle was taken over at exactly 2 am that morning.

Charles walked into castle, his head held high, gingerly avoiding the pools of blood that threatened to stain his expensive clothes.

Royce was sitting in a chair in his office when Charles entered.

"Hello brother." Charles said and Royce remained silent. "I believe justice has been served. You shouldn't be too surprised though, it was a long time coming."

"If you plan to usurp me for the throne, " Royce said in a calm voice, "Then you will fail."

"I have already succeeded." Charles said spitefully. "Take him away, he is an eyesore."
The rebels grabbed Royce and hauled him away to the dungeons.

"Where is the princess?" Charles asked.

"We can't find her." A rebel said.

Charles tsked in annoyance, "Make sure she is found, if she isn't in the castle then torture her whereabouts from her father." He said. "When she is found, I will announce the date for their public execution, I'm sure the crowds will love it."
He smiled thinly and looked out the window of the study and suddenly spotted Les out on the grounds.
"Ah yes, I almost forgot." Charles turned and looked at the guard that was a part of his inner coup.
"Make sure that rebel there is "killed in action". " He winked and the guard nodded and left the room.

Loreilei never understood all these human mess. She was never one to begin with. Why fight when you can only live so shortly on these scarred grounds?

She knew she had to play neutral in this war. after all, her purpose here was to hunt down those who destroyed her home and send peaceloving vampyres fleeing in disgrace. There was one man she could not touched, however. and she knew why. his brilliantly cunning mind with a partner of brains to match even the most experienced vampyre was on his side. she saw no bond between them but they stood out individually. they will be my main course, she thought as she flew across roofs of burning houses. Les and Charles..I will remember your names and smell. but appetisers first

her keen sight zoomed in on two more rebels. they were standing guard outside the castle and the rest salvaged whatever treasures they can find. and they never change... swooping down like a hawk on its prey, she forced herself to remember the hunger of 100 nights of fasting and suck the life energy out of these men in plain view of the moonlight. slurping, she walked calmly into chaos and spotted a few more preys.

Meanwhile, the rebels were rejoicing as the castle defense fell. One man couldn't help but shouted "Victory to the one and only true heir to the throne! all hail King Charles!" and the rest of the men roared. However, the center of attraction did not seem to look right after shouting. one of his own man stabbed him in confusion. Then, there was an uproar. Charles men killed the traitor only to find more confused looking traitors stabbing their backs. The rebels were rebelling among themselves!

"stop! stop!" Les right hand man shouted hysterically as the situation grew out of control. Everyone's attention was on whoever was holding a sharp object intheir direction and confusion led to more blood spill. Loreilei was contended. she leaned casually against a wall at the corner. she never liked the taste and smell of blood but this blood spill smelled deliciously good.
