They blades clashed together, but the sound was swallowed by the trees surrounding them. The guy was pushed back by the girl. Her power and her tactic showed her fighting experience over the years. While the guy breathed heavely and had several cut wounds, she was healthy and didn´t have a single sweat drop on her face.

"Are you trying to kill me? We are fighting for hours and you don´t even want to stop?! Please, spare me for some minutes." Les sat down on the ground out of breath and leaned at his sword which stuck in the earth. Ryora was a tough trainer, for sure. It wouldn´t surprise him if she could discipline an army without a problem. She didn´t allow him to slack off or skip his training. Once determined Ryora seemed like no one could change her mind.

Ryora sighed annoying. "I don´t want to kill you. You are the one who can´t avoid my blade. Since I began to train you, you got better. But you still lack speed and can´t overcome your normal vision. Only if you can optain this two things will you be able to be a wonderful fighter." After she said this, Ryora blinked confused. For some reason she had a Déjà-vu. Someone had said the same sentence to her a long time ago. But why did she remember such a small thing when she couldn´t even remember her name?

Concerned, Les stood up. His muscles hurt. "What is Ryora? Are you ok?" He walked over to her but she only shook her head and smiled. But it wasn´t a happy smile. "It´s nothing. I just remembered that something I forgot. Truth be told, I can´t remember most of my life." Again she shook her head. "Doesn´t matter anymore. We´ll end our training today. I´ll get us something to eat and you make a fire." With that she turned and walked away.

Later as she came back the fire was ignited. They sat together and ate it silence. When they finished Les asked if Ryora would tell him about her loss of memories. At first she hesitated but then gave in and told him what happened three years ago.
She told him how she opened her eyes, without any memories and looked at a field of corpses and a blood-filled clearing. About how she found out by accident that she was a Fire-Slayer but didn´t find out much what this meant. Her dreams about the guy with the wings and what he told her.

Ryora felt a feeling of relief as she spoke to Les.

"that's a nice feeling you got there," a calm sweet voice came floating in.

Ryora and Les split and turned to look at the unwanted intruder. It was a lady with snow-white skin and red eyes.

No way! so soon? Les thought in a panic. I know those eyes...they were the same eyes my subordinates brought back so happily after a killing spree in the mountains not too long ago!

"You....Vampyre? the Snow Clan?" Les managed with difficulty. His wounds reopened.

The vampyre nodded and raised a long ice blade. There was no smile on her pretty face, making her look more monstrous by the minute.

"I don't understand what is going on but stand down!" Ryora shouted in frustration. There are so many things I don't understand! and this monster has to add to my troubles! Ryora sprang up from her seat and raised her swords.

"You should stand down," the lady commanded. Ryora felt herself drop her weapons against her will. "You are not the on I want to kill," the vampyre continue. "so please stay in a corner."

Ryora felt her muscles move against her will again as she stalked off to the corner. "stop! stop!"

"It's no use," Les gulped. "she is of the Snow Clan. A voice one can never get tired of nor can anyone escape an order. Cover your ears, Ryora!"

"Don't speak and don't move," the vampye continued, thoroughly enjoying the scene of her nemesis trembling. Finally, this if for my family! and she raised her icy blade.

"NO!" Ryora shouted and ignoring the breaking bones on her legs, she struggled against the order

Shit, shit, shit, shit, SHIT!!! What is this crazy, emotionless hag up to? I have to help Les or he is going to get killed by this vamp.
Ryora tried struggle against the command she got. But it was no use because as long as there was no other sound which would distract her from the girls voice. She clenched her fists and could only watch how the white-haired girl approached Les more and more in each second. He just stood there and trembled with fear. It semed like he knew what was awaiting him. The girl may have a good reason for doing that, but Ryora couldn´t let one get hurt as long as she didn´t know the situation.

Ryora burned with anger. Burned? Fire? That is it! She got an idea. Maybe...maybe this would work. She needed a few seconds to proof it.

Les stood there and did nothing. He looked into amber eyes and saw his death. Ryora wasn´t able to help him and wasn´t too. The Snow Vampyre raised her blade and pointed its top at his heart. He gulped. It´s the end. I wanted to rescue the kingdom and make the people happy... but it seems I´ll not be able to do this. Les sighed in resignation.

"Make you last wish before I pierce your heart, murderer." Even now her voice was emotionless. Les closed his eyes and prepared himself for the attack. Suddenly there was a swish to be heard and a surprised gasp.

What he saw when he opened his eyes was imaginable. Ryora still stood in the corner the vampyre had send her. But it was something other that was so surprising. Ryora´s hair and ears burned and her legs where covered with flames. Around her arms floated some fire balls and seemed like they danced. As he turned his head back to the girl he saw that the ice blade was melted. Only centimeters ahead his body.

"Step back from Les or the next ball will hit you. Fire is stronger than ice, your blade shows it." She walked toward the other girl. Now Ryora´s voice was also emtionless and again there was this one feeling he had before. As if this was another Ryora.

The vamp turned her head. "I told you to not move. Step back." Even though she used her magical voice, Ryora didn´t stop as the Snow Vampyre attacked her, she threw fire balls at the girl. It wasn´t a serious wound but a warning.

"I also don´t want to kill you, but I want to know why you want to kill Les. Tell me." Now Les didn´t shiver because of the white-girl, but of Ryora and her aura.

Ryora created more fire balls and waited for the vampyres answer.

Erik fell severely ill. He had been coughing and wheezing horribly for the last few days, his skin turning grayer than usual and after trying to brave the cold for 3 days in a row, Erik finally passed out.

Sheridan had gone into near hysterics and it was only Lyko's cool headed thinking that kept the situation from worsening. He dragged Erik out of the cold and into a cave, where he got a fire burning and covered him up warmly.
By the end of a few hours, color was returning to Erik's cheeks but he was still breathing with difficulty.
"What should I do?" Sheridan said tearfully. "He falls sick in winters but the healers fix him up with a potion. I don't know how to make it."
Lyko looked at her emotionlessly. Suddenly Erik rapsed, "Sheridan?"
"I'm here." She said, taking his hand. He looked at her and smiled faintly before going into another coughing spasm.
"Water..." He said and Sheridan help up a bottle to his lips and he took a sip before saying. "I need the water."
"I don't understand?" Sheridan said but Erik had fallen asleep again.

Sheridan had tears in her eyes. Erik seemed very very ill and in this wilderness they wouldn´t find something to help him. Why did this have to happen.

As Sheridan was caught in her thoughts, Lyko touched Eriks body and did a little examine on the girls friend. Erik´s sudden illness and words made him suspicious. After he was done, Lyko grabbed the bag he carried with him everytime and searched for something. Sheridan watched him and asked herself what he was doing when he took out a black stone and put it over Erik´s heart. She reached out her hand to stop him, but hesitated. Lyko may have an idea what to do and she didn´t want to disturb him.

Suddenly the stone began to glow. At first in a white light and then it shined like the rainbow at the sky. Sheridan looked surprised but at the same time thought it was beautiful. But then he put it away and looked a bit surprised. The first emotion he showed. He turned to her and asked. "Could it be that your friend is a magical or mystical creature?"

Now it was Sheridan to look surprised. Did the stone discover this? And should she really tell Lyko Eriks secret? Even though she trusted him more than Erik.

She took a deep breath and nodded. "Yes. Erik is a dragon. But what does this have to do with his illnes?" Sheridan was really confused.

Lyko took he bottle again and held it against Erik´s lips as he explained. "I don´t know for sure but maybe he gets ill because he hasn´t contact with his dragon stone. And his element has to be water or else he wouldn´t say that he needs it. The next time he wakes up we´ll have to ask him what he needs."

The vampyre merely smiled. No use talking to a girl who has closed her ears to everything...my voice is a good checklist for that. No point explaining to anyone if they don't plan to listen in the first place...

Loreilei raised her arm and Ryora took it as a gesture of invitation and charged forward. Loreilei merely pat her wound and ice froze the bleeding. Loreilei looked up calmly and stepped back a little. Ryora raised her arm and fireballs directed towards Loreilei's face. The fireballs hit Loreilei and Loreilei lookalike melted!

I was tricked!

Ryora's head snapped towards a tree and saw Loreilei opened her mouth.

"Shut your ears!" Les screamed, still unable to move his muscles. Realising that, Ryora sprang towards and covered his ears instead. From afar, Ryora could hear a dark song which reminded her of her lonely past. No! I can't be affected! But when she shut her eyes, she saw everything even more clearly. A small drop of tears fell on the ground hear her legs. I'm crying? Impossible! She felt her flames die down a little.

Seizing opportunity, Loreilei moved swiftly and icicles formed from thin air, flying towards Ryora. Sensing a change in the air, Ryora opened her eyes and used her flames to melt them. She should know it shouldn't work...or was it... Ryora immediately turned towards Les and saw dark red stain on his shirt. He began coughing blood as well. Screaming in anger, Ryora prepared to fight Loreilei with all she had but the vampyre was gone.

"silly girl. she was -cough- long gone," Les managed through pants and coughs. "I never knew the day I had to repay for my mistake came so soon..."

"no no, it can't be. You are gonna live," Ryora managed through her tears.

"heh...are you really crying? the girl who could almost beat me..." Les smirked weakly.

"Shut up..." Ryora choked as she carried Les to the nearest village.

"Lately I get stabbed very often....don´t think so? -cough. First, one of my so-called comrades and now -cough- this ice-cold girl." Les managed to speak.

The old lady looked up from his chest and gave him a stern look. "Don´t talk little boy. You´ll only get worse and I won´t let you see the light yet." The herbalist continued to work on his wounds. They weren´t really deep but on of the ice-blades had nearly hit a vital vein, for Les´ luck.

"The lady is right, Les. We are lucky that this village has such a good herbalist like her and we got here without your wounds to be as worse as I thought. You are at fault for getting in so much trouble. I should get you a sitter to watch over you." Ryora stood at the window, with the back pointed at the bed. She still had tears in her eyes because of this song the vampyre had projected into her head. Someday I´ll catch this bastard and let her pay for this. Ryora was pissed.

Right after she had the idea to use the flames to distract her ears from the ice-girls voice she lost her conciousness and waked up after she heard the dark song poisoning her mind. What happened between, Ryora didn´t know. This thing happened once in a while, but why did it have to happen in such a critical situation when a friend was in danger? But there was no answer to this question. One thing was for sure: Ryora would get her revenge and answers from this girl even if it meant to play dirty tricks.

******

Outside of the house where Ryora stayed, hid a shadow in the shadows. It watched her while holding a pendant in his hands. "What mess did you get in, Sylin?"

******

Ryora had the impression of being watched. But even if she concentrated her senses at the environment outside she couldn´t see any odd things.

Les laughed weakly, "Heh, I don't need..." Les lost consciousness.
The herbalist smiled and covered him up with a blanket. "He should be sleeping for a few hours," she said to Ryora who nodded.
"Violence is never the key, is what I tell my students, "The elderly woman said and smiled at Ryora's worried expression, "Do not fret, child. He is in safe hands. Why don't you go and enjoy the country side."

"There is a sea nearby, " Lyko said emotionlessly to Sheridan as he poked the fire with a stick to keep it high.
She sat close to the fire, warming her hands. Erik slept nearby, his breathing uneasy.
Sheridan looked up at Lyko.
"We should try to get him to the sea. He said he needed water, maybe that will help him." Lyko said.
Sheridan nodded, her delicate face looking troubled.
"It will be night time soon." Lyko said. "Get some sleep, we can start the trek tomorrow."
Sheridan nodded and moved closer to Erik, curling up beside him. "Hurry up and get better, you, " she whispered stroking his cheek and closing her eyes, fell asleep next to him.

Lyko looked at the both of them. Erik really got worse each hour which passed. It had been a great surprise to find out the this barking dog was a dragon of water in reality. He didn´t know much about dragons and their life, but he knew that when a dragon stayed away from his dragon stone for too long it had a great impact on the health and power of a dragon. Erik must be one strong dragon to be away for so long and haven´t died yet. But even the strongest, may it be human or not, had a limit.

The next morning, Erik also remained unconscious and Lyko carried him through the forest, Sheridan walking beside them and giving her friend water. Erik´s illness also affected the girl, she didn´t eat most of her meals and sleeped without rest. The forest was thick and the fog clouded the view. Lyko had to watch to not trip over some stone or lose sight of Sheridan. When his memory didn´t fool him the sea was just a few hundred meters ahead of them, but, and that was a problem, the area was filled with bandits and other criminals which had some shelters around here to hide from the soldiers of the kingdom. They had to watch out.

Half an hour later the sea came in sight and Sheridan sighed in relief. Now Erik would get better as soon as he was in the water. Or so they thought. She didn´t have an idea what other methode could help him and hoped they were right to bring him here. When Sheridan started to move faster, Lyko stopped and laid Erik onto the weed beside a tree. She wanted to ask what he was doing but he put a finger on his lips to stop her from making any sound. Her breath stopped and the princess looked around her to search for any signs of danger but couldn´t find it.

Meanwhile, Lyko took his daggers and prepared himself for a fight. They were surrounded by a small group of deliquents which thought they were easy to catch and later sell to others. Now Lyko sighed, but not in relief (ok, maybe a little bit). Lately the criminials got lazy and overestimated themselves. What luck Lyko had to not be in with them. He saved himself a lot of problems. Something he couldn´t guarantee for these idiots.

Sheridan gasped when she saw the group of bandits. She crouched next to Erik, looking scared. Lyko was standing, daggers bared, but he was only one, how would he protect them from so many?

"What a pretty lad." A man sneered as he stared at the slim boy with huge eyes next to the man on the ground, "Looks almost like a girl. He'll fetch a good price."
They think I'm a boy. Sheridan realized then looked down at the trousers, shirt and vest she was wearing; no wonders about that.

"If you attack, I will not guarantee you will make it out alive," Lyko said flatly.

The bandits laughed at the single boy in front of them and then charged at him

Closing her eyes and putting her hands on her ears, Sheridan didn´t want to see the fight. Even though she didn´t knew Lyko very well she had seen his fighting skills and he was fast. Erik was moaning in pain and sweating. The princess was really worried about him, but the only thing she could do was taking him to the sea. Sheridan chewed her lip as Lyko fought against the criminals.

A few minutes later Lyko took his dagger out of the throat of the last bandit. Like he predicted their skills left much to be desired - not that he would complain about it at the moment. He turned around and walked over to Sheridan, kneelt behind before Erik and put him back on his back. He took one of the girls hands from her ears. "The fight is over but you should still close your eyes if you don´t want to see this scene." Both of them stood up and Lyko led the way to the sea ahead of them.

The view was amazing. The lake glittered in the vanishing sunlight and a few small animals stood at the shore to drink some water. It was a complete difference of the bloody scene Lyko had created minutes ago to protect him and the others. A side glance on Sheridan and he saw her hopeful expression and she started to run forward. When Lyko once again stood beside her he laid Erik down and began to undress the dragon´s shirt.

When the small girl noticed what he did she blushed. "Wh-what are you doing Lyko? I-I th-think you don´t have to undress him." Her voice was just a whisper but Lyko didn´t care about bashfulness. The moment he finished his work he took Erik on his arms and went into the water. Still fully dressed.

"I think it´s better if he has the most contact with water he can. We´ll see if it will help him." Waist deep in the lake he put Erik in the water and went out to watch and wait.
After some seconds Erik´s skin got more color and Sheridan sighed in relief. It seemed like he got better. But for how long, was what Lyko thought.

*******

Through the early evening flew a black figure to the direction of the sea. The guy let an amused sound out of his mouth. "Come on, Erik. If you die on me how am I able to tease you, scale-boy. You are stupid to not tell your friends what they have to do to help you." The flying guy laughed silently. Why do I have to even watch out for you when I only have to protect her

The water began to shimmer. Sheridan watched with bated breath as Erik slowly began to transform into his dragon form.He transformed fully, his eyes still closed then he slowly began to sink.
"Erik!" Sheridan cried and made to run to him but a voice called out, "Stop."
She looked back and saw a hooded man hovering in the air.
"What?" Sheridan said.
"Let the dragon sink to the bottom of the lake, it is needed for his rejuvenation." The hooded person said.
"How did you know-" Sherisan began, surprised when Lyko cut in, "Who are you?"

"I don´t like to ask twice. Who are you?" Lyko´s body was tensed as he pointed one of the daggers at the floating stranger. All of a sudden he had appeared when Erik transformed into a dragon and Lyko didn´t know he was there till he said something. As he came nearer Lyko noticed that the guy wasn´t floating. He had black wings which the night covered and because of his black hood it seemed like he was nearly invisible.

The hooded person laughed. "Believe me, you don´t want to know who I am. You just have to know that I´m a friend of this stubborn dragon and am able to make him recover faster. Would you mind to put down your weapon? I don´t want you to get hurt, young boy." He stopped above the spot where the dragon had sunken into the water.

Sheridan made a step forward. "What are you doing?" she whispered worried and hopeful at the same time. But the guy -from the voice it had to be a guy- stretched out his left hand and suddenly a glowing light-ball formed surrounded by blue runes in a long forgotten language. Lyko throw a dagger at him. He didn´t trust the flying man even though his instinct told him he wasn´t a bad person. Better safe than sorry.

Dropping the light-ball he watche it too, sink into the water and joining his old friend. Erik was heavily weakened since he got away from the dragon stone and promised to protect the king of Zarbadast. He felt sort of sorrowful. His once strong friend and comrade with whom he fought together and against became ill because of this pack of rotten bastards. That was his opinion and nobody could change it.....okay, maybe one person.

As the minutes passed the two humans at the shore became restless (the red-haired boy didn´t show it with his body but it was oblivious). Flying above the water Erik´s friend also got impatiently and raised his voice. "Hey scale-boy. How long do you intend to rest in your realm? The little princess is going to cry because of you." He smiled. "Or should I play a little with her?" It was meant as a joke to lure him out, but the red-haired guy tensed even more and walked before Sheridan.

At first nothing happened and Lyko still stared at the guy floating in the air. His words made him curious. But suddenly the water began to bubble and a giant blue dragon tossed out of the water glaring at man before him. The man raised his hands in defense. "I made a joke and you should know it. Beside, you should thank me for keeping some of your strength safe since you don´t get to your stone." He stopped as if he was listening to something. And then he made a sigh. "My Sylin get´s into much trouble. She was part of the rebellion. You saw her on the rooftop, remember?" Behind Lyko, Sheridan gasped and whispered a name.

"And know she got herself in much more trouble by taking care of this earthy-boy." He played with, what seemed like a pendant, in his hand. He turned his head and looked at Lyko and Sheridan. "Change back Erik. I think the princess would like to see you healthy again."

Ryora was sitting on a big stone and watched the glittering stars on the night sky. D. and Luna were sleeping beside her and Ryora was caught in her thoughts. What should they do know? Where should she and Les head to? And what should she do if this vampyre of the Snow Clan once again appeared before both of them?

Charles Westmoreland was annoyed. Royce was in captivity but his daughter was roaming free. He had sent men after her but they had had no luck in finding her.
He let out a disgruntled sigh, it seemed he would have to recruit more trained assassins. Some one who knew what they were getting into.

Erik dove back into the water.
"You better close your eyes, girl." The hooded man said.
"How does he know I'm a girl?" Sheridan whispered to Lyko then suddenly stopped. "Wait, you KNEW I was a girl?" She said in shock to Lyko.
He shrugged, looking emotionless.
Sheridan shook her head in bewilderment then closed her eyes as Erik climbed out of the water and put on his clothes.
"Sheridan, "he said and she opened her eyes, her face lighting up when she saw him looking well again. "Thank goodness," she cried tearfully, running to him and hugging him tight. "I was so worried."
"Aw, so touchy," the hooded man said.
Erik looked up at him and snarled, "Beat it, twerp."
"Do you know him?" Sheridan asked looking up at the man.
"Sadly, yes." Erik said with a rueful grin. "He's a ....friend, I guess."
"You guess?" Sheridan asked.
Erik chuckled. "I can only guess."
Then he sobered up, "I have to get you to Thorn, we've delayed enough."
"What are you going to do after?" Sheridan asked.
"Im going to rescue your father."

The herbalist was walking to the shops next day, carrying a basket of herbs with her when she spotted the posters on the wall.
She gasped in shock, "Oh my..." she whispered in fear.
The two sketches faces had very close resemblance to her patient and the girl with him.
She clutched her scarf tighter around her, biting her lip in worry.
What should she do, give them protection? But if someone found out she was housing criminals she could be thrown into jail.

Shaking, she turned and hurried back home.

She found them both in the house. Ryora was sitting next to Les, they were both laughing as she tried to feed him the gruel and he was shaking his head, saying he'd rather die than eat that awful "dish from hell." He looked very weak but was recovering.
"Hey, its the doc," Les said with a friendly smile. "How was sho-"

"Get out of my house," the old woman said shakily as she looked at them and pointed to the door. "Out right now."
