Professional subbing for a distribution company, Funimation, VIZ, etc., pays. Fansubbing is usually charity work that usually doesn't.

It mostly called an hobby. More like helping each other so they can understand the story progress by look at what they're saying during the show. Its not that bad either.

i think they do cause that would be a wast of time for them unless the love to do it and like the experience and people sub anime because alot of people in america like anime (including me) and do not understand all the words duh!! but some people try to learn japanese so they can understand it (like me)

why do every american only say america as an example? why dont say alot of non japanese speaking people? or just alot of people outside of japan?

Er ... because the only example they know or feel confident about is America and they aren't such arrogant jerks as to assume that everything is like it is in America. It's simply defining the limits of your knowledge. when talking about municipal policies most people probably start with "well... in my home town..."

I'm sure it's hard for you to get past the stereotype of Americans as arrogant and ignorant, but guess what? It IS a stereotype.

think of anime translators just as you would as normal translators im sure but not 100% unless they work for a company they get commissioned for there work and get paid for it. other then that it could all just be for fun
