It depends. Some people strive to experience everything in the world, so the "loved but lost" becomes a unique experience that they cherish and learn from. Then there are people who are not really that inquisitive, and for whom experience doesn't really matter, so they might as well enjoy the "never love" option. It makes life easier.

This thread is obviously only for people who have been in love...

To never have loved at all. You could still be attached to that person you're not with anymore.

Well, if you've never loved at all, then you would not understand the concept of love.
So I guess never would be better.

Better to have loved and lost.

It isn't that bad. I mean it sucks, but it's not the end of the world. People put it into some kind of extreme, but they suck at it, so let ME put it into some kind of extreme. Is it better to have lived and died, than never to have lived at all?

And let me put it in an example where it's less extreme...

Is it better to have gazed upon a beautiful naked body of your opposite sex and gotten humiliated for gazing, than to never have gazed upon a beautiful naked body of your opposite sex at all?

Is it better to have eaten and gotten hungry, than to have never have eaten at all?

Is it better to have watched a cool movie and have the sequel suck, than never to have seen the first movie at all?

Is it better to have used the toilet and have the bathroom stink, than to have never used the toilet at all?

Don't these things seem obvious? Why is love not so obvious?

Most of the people on this site are too young to know true love if it crawled up their backsides and died. I remember thinking I was in love ever-other week in highschool. Whatever that was was nice, but it wasn't love. Having loved and lost I will say that it is better than never having loved at all simply because I can now tell the difference between real love and infatuation, when as a teenager I could not even comprehend what love was.

Here's one tip, if you think to yourself, "I'd do X, Y, or even Z for him/her!" then it isn't real love. Real love doesn't care about what you do, it cares about who you are and how who you are makes the other person feel about themselves.

To never have loved at all is an incomplete reality.
To never have a lover is love too, albeit for loneliness, one self or even loving to hate, loving disdain for others or your love never being reciprocated, love defines what you do with a passion.

I would have to say ' loved and lost' rather than never being loved at all.
It sucks to be heart broken and life may never be the same again.
Despite the fact, you will know what it felt like to be truly loved and know the true meaning behind "true love"
If you have never loved, then you don't understand just how undeniably wonderful and amazing it is. If you have loved, even if you lost your love, it was still a victory, because you loved and you know you can love again. You learned from the whole experience if you loved, and you have so many good memories of loving that you can't really regret it. Loving is a building experience, building up both you and your love, and, really, everyone around you.
