I understand exactly what you are saying. A lot of people like to take a free ride and don't care for the impact on others and a lot of people act without thinking about the long term impact if everybody imitates what they are doing.

If everybody imitates what you are doing, there is no anime to watch. Zilch, zero, nada.

People who care about their impact on others and care about whether its a problem if everybody acts the same way they do, get called "stupid" by people like you.

And you know what? We don't mind.

Hurrah for Lucky Star! For those who haven't seen it yet it's like a more wilder Azumanga Daioh and Haruhi Suzumiya fans rejoice too for lots from the series. And PLEASE give it a chance after a FEW episodes since of course there were some huge internal changes a bit after the first few episodes-you won't regret the laughs in the end from the whole piece or the catchy songs you likely heard!

And most people, including myself, as much as we'd love to be all caring and "help the anime market", it's not worth waiting an extra week, nor is it worth paying an overpriced fee for something you can get for free.

If you think $5-$7 per month is overpriced, you are in for a rude awakening once you are on your own in the world.

LOL! The person you were replying to was probably watching anime before you were born. I know I certainly was, and he is only a year younger.

Wonder if CR is ever gonna be a good website though.

Currently, everyone can easily just go to one of the many subbers ripping CR shows and putting them up for download for free.
So you get the episode for free, the same time as anime membership would get it, and you can actually download it.

And nothing goes back to the content creators, so over and above celebrating being internet bullies who step all over the rights of the creators just because they have the power to do so ...

... bootleg downloaders are gambling on whether someone else will pay the content creators enough to keep making the content.

Meanwhile, Crunchyroll subscribers are contributing substantially to the only growing market that anime has at the moment. So even though we are still a small part of the total market, we are growing bigger and bigger. The show with the lowest number of hits in this season would have been in the top four a year ago. After five years when the number of anime being made has fallen in half, we are helping to build toward a brighter future.

Growing market as long as you're American, you mean. The concept is all well and good, but when people outside the US are paying the same subscription rate as Americans and having access to (at best) half the shows, it's a bad joke. And then on top of that, we non-American subscribers get to subsidise people who aren't paying anything to watch these shows that we can't. Not my idea of value for money if I'm paying the same price and getting substantially less than someone else.

Looks like Crunchyroll gets Kiddy Girl-and.
No videos yet though.

Case in point. Just one of the shows Kadokawa list are available outside North America. One out of twenty. Justifies my cancellation even more.

At the moment, I only count 7 of the 21 listed that actually have episodes available, even to those of us in the United States.

That said, 1 out of 7 is not great, either.

It is your money, so you certainly have the right to decide how to spend it. Have you considered, however, that it might be more expensive per person for CR to offer anime for countries with smaller audiences? I expect the fact that they cannot offer as many shows leads to a catch-22 effect where this results in fewer premium memberships, which translates to a higher cost per subscriber per episode for those countries for anything that isn't licensed solely on a pay per play basis.

Oh, awesome! I have wanted for a long time to watch Lucky Star, but haven't gotten around to it. Now I can watch it legally. Hooray!!!

I still wish you had gotten Bakuman though... It's one of my top favorite manga.

You're right, 1 out of 7 still isn't a good average - if you were a baseballer and that was your batting average (.143), you'd be punted. The thing that really killed my interest in renewing my subscription was that barely half of the fall season simulcast series were available to me (there were more series I was interested in unavailable to me than there were that interested me) - and that's ultimately what you're paying the premium membership for. At the end of the day, do you keep paying for something you don't get value for money out of compared to other users paying either the same or less (read: nothing)? Short of it is, the current model Crunchyroll are using disadvantages way too many people and gives few incentives for people to subscribe (and less for them to re-subscribe), and while we'll never get the licensor companies out of the mentality of region locking content, the idea of selling download to own or pay-per-view streaming needs to be considered, especially considering how few series are actually licensed for DVD release these days.
