Characters running to the left in the opening.

You mean running in some overly dramatic fashion in general?

This and running to the left.

True, I have noticed that before, but besides that videos attempt to do so, I never found it annoying, haha. I would think if they don't usually run in the series, then they shouldn't run in the OP.

that stupid thing where they end a sword fight with two people charging at each other and they pass then a few seconds later one of them falls or splits in half or something. such a cheap way to end a fight.

It certainly is cliched though.

People who become stronger right when a bad ass boss is about to kill them.
If you had that much strength before, why use it AFTER you get beaten to an inch of your damn life!?
Then like the weak guy becomes like 1000000000000x stronger than anyone else in only a few episodes.
(-cough-the blonde loser from tenjoh tenge-cough-)
Yeah! cuz thats totally possible!

the favored/weak girl who's in love with the main character but always seems to be in some kind of danger NEEDS TO GO. and the problem is that she never dies, either!!! if she does the main character will go on for the rest of the series feeling guilty and NEVER GET OVER IT.

The bad news is that I don't see this changing until Japanese culture does.

Too many characters; the less characters your anime has, the better.

Well, a large cast isn't that bad all the time because they keep the story interesting if the show is extremely long, like Gintama, Bleach, One Piece, etc.

I took that into consideration and that a valid point. Don't get me wrong I love all the big cast shonen anime and the mangaka usually do a good enough job to keep everyone entertained myself included. Yes, I should have emphasized this was supposed to be a generalization for shorter series'. Yet, if you start to think about it, it can be kind of gimmicky.

Sadly most of the cliche's mentioned are how you reach the main demographic for anime... young boys entering middle or early high school, confused by hormones, can be swayed into interest by showing fan service and a simple boring or shy male lead getting into all kinds of adventures and women problems. It's alot cheaper to copy paste a simple plot like that and make money than to reinvent the genre and make something new....

That said, my most hated cliche is the male protagonist who refuses to fight, or hates confrontation... it's normally in military genre's like Gundam or Code Geass. I hate that a military entrusts a super weapon with huge plot armor to a 13 year old kid (understand why though since the show is made for that age group) but the kid keeps whining about how he doesn't want to hurt people or fight, yet he refuses to let someone else take the controls. Wish someone would tell these lil kids that sometimes to make an omelet an egg or two needs to be broken.

Or could someone explain how a barely pubescent kid is a savant at controlling a bi-pedal robot on various terrain with something as simple as 2 joysticks? Anyone else ever thought about how they're able to move around, use sword weapons in close combat, or grapple an opponent with those kind of controls?

And I think I may just be on a mech rampage... but why the HELL do you paint a weapon white and gold with all those bright colors? Do you really want to stand out that much that any simple military commander with a camo mech and some camo mesh can snipe your mech from across the country? ((Again, plot armor and being the main child character protects them when they do this but it just pisses me off to see no military strategy once they develop bi-pedal tanks))

Sibling complexes. Seriously, have any of the writers actually had a sibling?? If they did they would know just how... ewwwww that is.

Amnesia, childhood friends, "I will protect you," and girls who wear nothing but skirts.

fanservice shows. Like Sora no Otoshimono. Piss poor storyline, too many over-used tropes, and not enough character development. Did I mention the entire cast is pretty much retarded?

Highschool of the dead is hardly any better, these two are the most recent and primary 'mediocrity supprot in anime' I can think of. On a scale of them actually being decent, they BOTH suck.

rule one of sister/brother complexes they are never related even ore no imouto didn't go that way.. it went with kuroneko but it's a fetish due in part most people in japan are alone or only children and don't really grow with a sister/brother. Now if some one grew up with a sibling it's different than the stories they are used to writing i will admit of having a bit of that fetish....but then again to each his own... also this has been going on since the 80's so don't think it's anything new, although it was cousins/step mothers then
