I don't read period. So I guess I read romance novels and mangas because I've forced to against my will.

Vicarious romance. I'm 30 now--married at 19, separated at 21, divorced at 23. I'm really not a believer in "someone for everyone" anymore. Romantic manga, though not a large part of my collection (most of my romantic stuff is in anime form), is comforting. I can be happy for the main characters.

...and then something like the end of Fate/Stay Night makes me so frustrated it's not even funny.

Hmm. . . I read romance novels/mangas because the story is cute, the characters are based on people's real feelings, it gives that "mysterious feeling", and some romance mangas are drawn beautifully. But yeah, I still have to be in the real world. Reading romance mangas makes my mood feel better.

Heh... I might be cursed for saying such things, but I read romance novels and romantic manga because women are not really like the ones I read about in these great stories. Besides, the good male models help me understand what 'majority' of women expect in a romantic relationship. Sometimes, my muscle mags, game mags, and tough guy anime/manga literature doesn't always have the best of insight.

Remember, when you get a woman to tell you she loves you, you basically conquered her.

i guess it's same as saying "i like chocolate flavor" or "i like to watch action movies". It's just that we prefer a certain genre cuz we think it's nicer or more interesting.

I've never read any manga let alone a romance manga, but I do find myself reading several romance novels. More recently then ever before, especially this particular author whose latest book i just bought and finished today lol. Why do I read them? Well first and foremost I enjoy reading, I've been doing it for the vast majority of my life and as I'm reading more than any couple of authors can write books in my favored genre I've been branching out (in baby steps though, I like my shell, its sheltered and safe lol) to read other genres and now that I've read a few romances I find that I actually enjoyed them even though a few years ago I would have vehemently denied any such thought that I would enjoy or even read a romance novel. Secondly the characters' personal and emotional development is intriguing and superior to any other genre I've had the pleasure of reading. Thirdly I enjoy a happy ending most of the time, who doesn't?, but I also can understand when everything doesn't work out the way it would if everything was a happy and right world. Besides that's what sequels are for, right? =D

Hmm I'd say because it's an interesting genre, where authors and mangaka put forth their ideas about love into a story of their own. Added with unique character personalities and plot twists, I find most romance novel or manga very interesting.
