Chart Errata:

Per Waterst1:
Votoms series:
Armored Trooper Votoms: Alone Again, Votoms Finder and Armored Trooper Votoms: Case;Irvine are theatrical movies and not OVAs.
Time Paladin Sakura:
The date is wrong. Both episode 1 and 2 have been delayed with episode 1 rescheduled for Winter 2011 and episode 2 probably in Spring.

Per llamaben:
Supernatural:
With the V4, they still haven't fixed the error on the Supernatural OVA air date (due to a delay), which was known before the v1 was even published. For the record, it's 23 Feb.
Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas:
Also once again, the v4 chart still does not include season 2. DVD release date for episodes 1 & 2 is also February 23.

**The episode count listed appears at Fansub Wiki, but no episode count was listed by the Countdown website as of the most recent edit of this message.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka ★ Magica lists Aniplex as a production partner, so we could end up seeing this one as a simulcast on ANN.

I expect Freezing to be The Anime Network's simulcast for this season.

Unfortunately, Dream Eater Merry (Yumekui Merry) and Infinite Stratos are unlikely to be simulcast anywhere. Both are on TBS, and no anime on TBS has been simulcast since Linebarrels of Iron, back in Fall 2008.

Fall series that are known to be continuing into the Winter include Bakuman, Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuto, Super Robot Wars OG: The Inspector, Tegami Bachi: Reverse, and Toaru Majutsu no Index II.

If you spot any errors in the information listed in this message, feel free to send me a PM or reply in this topic.

The list is not interesting this season

Critics says

Enough with these goddamn high school anime.

100% agreed.

I realise that the main audience for anime are probably high school kids, but I don't think this necessarily needs to be reflected in the actual material.

The first real anime I ever saw (I'm not counting DBZ, ugh) was the subbed Rurouni Kenshin. I was in high school myself at the time, and yet I had absolutely no problem relating to these adult characters and becoming pretty much addicted to the series, until those later, filler episodes. As TV Tropes notes, Kenshin was apparently 28 at the beginning of the series...not only that, but he was tired of fighting, and was trying to get away from it, rather than the opposite often seen in Shounen. In the very first episode he shows a cynical (some would say realistic) perspective rather than the usual idealistic one, in regard to swords and violence. We also have Watsuki playing around with historical details, addressing surprisingly dark subject matter (the scenes of Kenshin's past being the main example, adapted into the Tsuiokuhen OVA) and probing all sorts of interesting themes. Now that I'm older, I have different anime and manga that I like, but I still believe that RK was a fantastic introduction to the world of these mediums. None of the people making a lot of these new anime series' seem to have anywhere near the ambition or creativity to try something unusual but still appealing to their target audience, and it's a real shame.

I'm sure there are a handful of good cult shows out there at the moment, but it's still a tad depressing to see so much rubbish everywhere.

I don't know. Much of that stuff is catered to Otaku that wish for an idealistic portrayal of school life. In other words... it's a niche, but one with a very dedicated audience that woefully demand the same tedious stuff year after year (without a sense of good conflict or thematic depth, it becomes old quite fast).

Luckily there's some diversity in the upcoming season, however, the market is far too saturated and uneven for people who don't care about the mundane lifes of a bunch of (pre-)pubescent kids talking about inconsequential shit without any given insight, and where the dialogue often remains too elementary. It's just boring and pointless after the hundredth time.

Is this the complete list? Cause if it is... well, it's disappointing.

Fractale and Gosick looks interesting. I will check out the Lovecraft series, but based on that image it doesn't exactly look very Lovecraftian...

By the way, love the fact that you're starting this list before all the fall simulcasts have been announced. Excellent enthusiasm

Chartfag's chart for Winter of last year shows 18 regular series, so it is likely very close, but there is always the chance of late additions.

Frankly, as late as the first week of October, I expected that all the simulcasts would have been announced by October 10, and that I would have started this Winter 2011 topic a week ago. Nonetheless, I am starting this one earlier. I started the Fall topic 35 days before the premiere of the first listed series, vs. 47 days for this one.

OMG Beelzebub!

Other than that... no, I don't finder this winter lineup exciting at all. But that's just my first impressions on the photos. Who knows? One of these could be the next Death Note, or Code Geass! You'll never know!

Other than the second season of Kimi ni Todoke, there's not much from the list that really garners my attention other than the pleasant / amazing animation qualities. Really hope that there's a more updates on it soon.

If that doesn't happen... time for some 'back to the nostalgia' series.
