Why are "Main," "Charge," "HP," etc. in English?

No release date yet, though, and because I live in the States that means I'm going to need to wait at least a month after the game is released in Japan...

Those words are usually in English in Japanese games... don't know why but most (all?) Japanese games I've played have some English in them...

Just to add a little bit of view, but to abbreviate, and the long tradition of those displays don't change. Now days, people started to feel proud about using Kanji (and all those asianny stuff around U.S.), but long ago, when these HP and those words started to appear in games (like 1st Dragon Quest 1986), they wanted to make it look more western/American.
But when they explain in details, they show up in Japanese, because not all the Japanese are fluent speakers/readers (unless if they live in Okinawa, English is only for secondary language classes, or needed for college exam, and that's it. most of the early generations can't read specific stuff in English)

example of early DQ profile I just google imaged.

Evil Plan:

I have a PSP and my cousin has a DS. So I'm getting Daybreak for myself, and Kizuna for him as a "gift". But then I'll invite myself over to play it all the time ^______________^
