According to Wikipedia, cuteness has taken over many things in Japan: toys, merchandise, clothing, and behavior since the 70s.There are many kawaii characters like those in Shugo Chara and moe character elsewhere. Now fanservice revolves around characters who are "cute" in some way. They may come in innocent or tsundere form. They wear from gothic lolita clothing to school uniforms. Anime is most evident than real life stuff.

What is cute? We seem to percieve innocent, kind objects or people and turn into some kind of cute fetish. The anime characters are not necessarily kind and warm-hearted as there are characters like the tsundere heroin in MM! or Fate/Stay Night. As long as they seem immature or childish that the subject is cute.

Today, many people and I say that anime now are being copied from one and another too abusively. Whether or not the copying stops, what will change in anime after the Kawaii Era in Japan?

This topic reminds me a lot of this pic.

On topic I don't seen anime changing much anytime soon but I still feel that some great animes still come out from time to time that don't rely on moe characters.

Cuteness will never die. I mean it. Never.

And I think the reason why it seems like cute animes are just being copied over and over again is due to the lack of range of what you can do with cute animes. What I mean is like take action anime for example. There are SO MANY types of action anime, that its really not hard at all to think up a scenario for action type animes. AND if you add fantasy to the action type animes....you have an even bigger selection of scenarios to make an anime from.

However for cute animes....you usually see them in school settings....animes that take place during school....why is that? Well its because that there really aren't too many types of scenarios you can use for cute type animes. In fact, the only way to have cute type animes be outside of school.....would be to have the anime be centered around a workplace.....like Working!! for example. However if you add fantasy to the cute animes.....then you can get something like Shukufuka no Campenella.

Edit: (Well I guess you can also say when an anime takes place during the home residence or something....but since animes with school settings always have a place where the main characters return to...which is there home....it pretty much is always alongside animes that take place during school......the example I was thinking of when I made this Edit was Ichigo Mashimallow.....that anime is practically always taking place either at the home....or outside....not a lot of scenes at the school)

Now granted, there are a bunch of cutesy anime, and some of them do think outside the box...however if you simply compare the variety of action anime to the variety of cutesy anime....you will see that the range for scenarios for action anime are vastly superior to the range of cutesy anime. And this is still the same for when you add fantasy to both types of anime....(Hell the gap will be even bigger if you gave them both fantasy genres)

To summarize....there isn't a whole lot of different scenario's you can use for cutesy anime like you can for action anime, so thats why you think its copied a lot of times.

But in regard to whether cute anime will eventually die out.......I dont think so. And its actually not just animes being cute....the genre of COMEDY is probably the biggest genre that goes along with cute animes. In fact I would think it would be even more accurate to say that the action type anime are being replaced with the comedy type anime.....and just the cutesy aspect are implemented into the comedies.

Well thats just my take on it.

The world revolves around money, although from perspective view points opinions may differenciate, cute/kawaii is in fact a major sell point. In other words, cuteness will eventually fade away as the target audience reflect it's interest towards other characteristics and evolved storylines over time.

Cuteness won't ever die, but they might change how they present it.

There wont be a backlash to cuteness/moe just yet.
It WILL happen, but not for years.

What will follow, I can only image will be horrifying. This is Japan we're talking about.
I'm scared.

What you WILL see in the next few years is a heavy increase in moe. It'll be so moe you'll vomit just from hearing about how moe it is.
