They should not be given special treatment just because they are celebrities.

I agree but it all goes back to the amount of money they have. If they're big with a lot of money, of course they're gonna get some leeway. But if you have some kind of like C-lister it's over for them.

i hereby dcree that this thread is useless and stupid and it is therefor damned to an eternity in thread hell. on a side note, all criminal celebraties need to go to jail for longer than fair since they are attention seeking pricks and they think they deserve special treatment

I think this is a fairly legitimate topic, and the way you side commented actually refutes your desire to have this thread locked...

Anyway, I think it is a celebrity stunt, especially when the celebrity in question is in a downward spiral... I really wonder how they think such a stunt would actually boost their "star power"... I mean, it will give you attention, yes... but sometimes, it really isn't just about the attention. Because there are some of those stars that are gone from the limelight, but when we recall their name, we can't help but think, "oh yeah... he/she was good... wonder whatever happend to him/her?"

I was going to ask about that, but apparently you answered my question.

I saw part of a program on VH1 (not that I usually watch it) and apparently she stole her own porn tapes (1 Night in Paris) from a store. She just picked it up and walked out. I don't know anyone who'd buy it anyways

How can it be a publicity stunt when a judge determines the sentence and not the celeb? Taking Paris Hilton as an example, I think she is being treated more harshly because she is famous. She has had 2 driving incidents, one for drink driving, for which her licence was suspended. She then drove with a suspended licence, and now faces jail for that (not for the drink driving, for the suspended licence driving). Maybe American laws are different, but if someone did that here, there is no way they would get jail. They would probably get a fine, a longer suspension and have to undergo some sort of counselling for the drink driving thing. Paris' incident was a comparatively minor one, no one got hurt and she seems remorseful. It is true that a fine would have no effect on her because of her wealth, but maybe a community service order where she has to do something to help others would be better than jail. I might add that I am by no means a fan of Paris Hilton, but I think she is being treated unfairly.

I think stars should be above the law because they are prettier, handsomer, and more successful than the rest of us. I’m also glad we have our law enforcement keeping me safe from dangerous criminals like Martha Stewart. Because I would be so worried if they let her free and went out and capture serial killers, rapists, and burglars.

i think they shouldn't get special treatment because they are famous, they can get off easier because they have the money other people are stuck with longer sentences. like the enron people they should have been shoved in jail for a long time for what they did. they got off becuz they had money
