Hi there, here's my details
- I'm using my iPod touch
- OS 4.1
- the latest crunchyroll app (downloaded last week)
- the issue I'm having is with the anime reborn. It's been great quality up until episode 160ish. Suddenly you don't need to hit the subtitle button as there automatically on however the quality can go from being brilliant to being very blurry and the sound is slightly off. During an episode crunchyroll crashed and when I loaded up the video again a part which I previously watched in very bad quality went to being perfect this time around. What I'm wondering is, is this something to do with my Internet connection and can be resolved or is it just always going to be this way? Thanks

Hi, these are my details:
-iPhone 3Gs
-Os 4.0.1
-Latest
-Ih'v got same problem with quality changing from good to horrible and back and forth, and it seems it's happening when the anime it's hard subed, not when it's in option menu. It's very frustrating because it happens in every hard subbed anime. It's so bad I can't even read the subtitles. If you wanna know It happens in tegami bachi: Letter Bee, Naruto Shippuden, the world god only knows, La corda dOro, and lots more... I actualy don't know what to think really. I guess 5 stars aren't going to shine, although the idea of the app itself is great. I'm not using jailbraker or anything. I'm pretty sure it's encoding problem like 99% sure... Ih'v little acces to a computer, and last time none, I mean NONE of videos worked, they didn't even start, maybe you fixed it already but when I finally can watch something on a pc, the website isn't working?!?! I guess it was a coincidence. Bad luck for me.
Please replay to me.

Just a little note, if you wondering if this skyfire program works-it does. What it does is actualy plays flash videos from the websites, but you can't log in to crunchyroll because it doesn't support https-encoding so you can't watch all new videos but if your crunchyroll app isn't working, it is an alternative, quality and sound isn't good but it isn't bad either, and don't forget that you have to go through www.m.crunchyroll.com, it won't work on the desktop site.

For everyone that are complaining about sora no otoshimono being banned for iPhone due to apples conditions, if you watched all episodes (and I think you did) and you want to watch the latest one on iPhone, Just tilt your devices (if you know what I mean). or you could use skyfire hehe, but it lacks quality, you cant log in so you have to wait a week for the latest one and it cost 2.99 dollars 1.79 pounds for those in UK, I'm in UK.

TOPIC ISSUE: Major discovery, if you said that sora no otoshimono is banned, so how the hell it's streaming to my iPhone?!?! Furthermore that would mean that you have a big mess, why would you set an encoding to something that shouldn't be encoded? I also have disovered that same as other videos this video(sora no otoshimono episode 9 to be exact) has the same problem of quality issue, where I have come to conclusion that this is a encoding problem, spend more time on it, it has to be something with subtitles being hard subbed on the film, and in this process you are failing because when the subtitles are in option menu it's fine. If you can't sort it out I would advise you to do it the old way. PUT THE SUBTTITLES AS A OPTION AND THE WHOLE THING IS SORTED. I just watched black jack with subtitle option and there was no problem in quality Whole 22 minutes. Why can't you do the same thing with naruto shippuden, letter bee, the world god only knows, sora no otoshimono, and many more anime series that are currently hard subbed?!??

Just a note here but i am not a mod, not an admin, just a tech savvy dude with some knowledge (all the stuff below are assumptions but keep things related):

- This is probably an encoding error, where the format is broken and the video thinks its however long, this would go under my problem so if you run into more problems like this just note the episodes so that the crunchyroll team can fix them.

I would like to know why this is also, i have a good internet connection here and on wifi i also drop down to low quality, now if this is a "feature" that you have programed into i would really like a "on/off" switch, as i would much prefer to wait the 30 seconds to buffer the 120 seconds of video! As far as an answer to the 2 quoted above, i also would love to know...

Hi, we're working to fix the degraded stream quality.

Some background: In order to get the streams working over 3G, we had to implement a feature where streams of the same content encoded with different bitrates are packaged up into one playlist, so that the iPhone can switch between them based on what it thinks available bandwidth is.

Most likely, we'll update our playlists so that when you're streaming via WiFi, it'll just show you the best quality streams. It will be a transparent fix (no app update required) and we hope to get it out soon - we'll definitely post here when it goes live.

Thanks for using the app, and keep letting us know if you have any issues with it!

You are correct - it's an encoder bug Our encoding guy is working to fix it. We won't feed him until he does.

Hi, can you supply us with the following info? It'll help us track down the issue.

1) Device type - e.g., iPhone 4, iPod Touch 2nd Gen, iPad
2) OS version - e.g., 3.1, 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.1
3) App version, or if you don't know, approximate date and time you installed the latest version.
4) Detailed description of the problem. Screenshots, error messages, anything weird you see, etc.
5) Steps to reproduce the problem

Thanks for the clarity, but is it possible that you could still implement a switch?

my grandparents internet is slow although its still wi-fi their internet connection is just fail. i can actually stream faster through my 3G connection. I would like to be able to stream low quality or high on wifi

I know the simple soultion is to just let it stream though my 3G but that eats up my 2GB cap per month. So this switch would be nice for those of us that might be at places with really bad internet. And it also would be nice for those of us that just dont want to see the lower quality video streaming though 3G and are willing to wait to buffer the next minute or two!

Thanks for the continued support,
Just trying to make the app a little better!

Hey all,

Some of the subtitling is a bit dodgy on my end.

I using the app on an iPad running ios4.2

Check out time of eve episode 4. About two minutes in and the English subtitling fails to reflect the dialogue. It's just start on the same phrase.

I also can't load subtitling if I chose to watch an episode from the thumbnails at the bottom of the screen if that makes sense? I have to be on the main page for the subtitling to load properly...

Otherwise, it's an amazing app. My favourite actually.

Thank you for your kind words! (Would appreciate giving us a favorable rating on iTunes )

There is definitely an issue with our encoder and we are working to re-encode affected episodes. We'll try to keep people posted via this thread on our progress.

Wow, thanks for the prompt reply.

I rated the previous CR app full marks and I've done the same for this version.

I've spread the love at work and everyone is on the crunchy bandwagon.

I'm sure the app will only get better.
