There is no such thing as a good, clean idea.

The only worthwhile ideas are ones that have been kicked around, beaten, challenged, and put to every test. That is what we're doing here

There are sections that DO NOT deal with anime in these forums, and should be taken seriously if the thread is meant to be. Nobody has the right to post like a dumbass anyways.

why don't people have the right to post like a dumbarse? this section is maybe dealing with serious issues. but people should still have the choice of HOW they post. seriously "internets serious business". do you just loitor all day checking every thread for spelling mistakes? does it affect you? no. s0 if ppl wnt 2 tlk lk dis den let em.

oh and "respecta" was a example to show you how pointless this is arguing over how people should post. don't like it don't read it.

I think that you should at least make the sentence comprehensible. I just say use the periods when you need to so I know when to take a breathe when reading (mentally). So if someone who types with numbers where letters should be should just shut up cause I'm not gonna waste my efforts trying to decode it.

I wont say anything about the retarded posts but if they can't at least make an effort to type normally, I'll just think of them as a retard and ignore whatever they are trying to say. So for example if Martin Lurther King's speech was written in 1337, no matter how good it it I'll still think of him as a retard.

And hmmm flaming. I'm all for intelligent flaming. But flaming by calling someone a "stupid mofo" should be stopped cause thats just random bullshit people with no intelligence spew out.

Well, I think it’s ironic that Mushroom is the one who started a thread that tells people not to be Jerks, as he’s a wonderful sarcastic little turd, but what he said is very-very true.

About the spelling crap. I don’t care if it is a second language to somebody. Most computers have a writing program. People, play as I play, copy and paste your posts in one of these spell checks before you actually post them. This will make you look 90% smarter! Also, you wont annoy the hell out of me!

Mushroom… *Bows* Thank you my media moderator! I might just save a link to this thread and PM it to everyone I see making stupid posts!

Now for some other advice that got left out:

1. Paragraphs! Paragraphs! Paragraphs! They are your friends. Put space between each different body. The initial post in here is a good example of this. Mine here can also be used.

2. Sum up quotes. I’m a hypocrite for this but I just learned how much quotes can add onto a post. Nobody is expected to read entire quotes, as they are usually used as a way of showing what exactly somebody is directing their own post toward, but I recently (Plan to go edit it out A.S.A.P) quoted a quote which had a quote which had quote in it. Each of these quotes were long and expository essays.
Don’t take joke threads seriously. Just kills the humor.

3. No double posts. Simple enough. If you accidentally double post edit the second one saying “Mods please delete this post.”

4. Caps is only acceptable for short bursts. No full posts of caps lock, or paragraphs. Limit it to a few words or a sentence. It should never be used to show shouting. Bold usually works just fine. About the only time you want to use caps is when your stating the central theme of a long message. This way people wont have to read your entire rant just to find a simple point.

5. When it comes to slang more is less. Seriously, when you slang up every word, it just makes you look illiterate. It’s annoying, and hard to read.

6. In serious threads leave slang 99% out. Using something along the lines of… Cuz for because is alright.

I’m sure there are other things we need to know but… Well, I leave it at this.

P.S: Most threads here are for fun so you don't have to worry about these too much. Mushroom is going a bit too far. But in the threads that come with long essays it helps everybody to follow along.

Nobody -has- to do any of this junk, but it would be very nice.

Woah... people say that MJ is taking things too seriously, and yet other people are taking this thread too seriously as well...

The point is to simply hope that it will reduce the incidence of poorly constructed threads. Honestly, I find it annoying to see threads created so poorly or in such a way that you have to ask them what exactly they're looking for.

It's really simply, give them a little primer on how to do things properly. It's like the primer you get when you enter HS. I think people are just reacting because some of the words MJ uses to bring out his point can be a little blunt in itself...

I think prudence in making topics should also be considered. Avoid creating topics that would target a relatively small audience (like only 10 or something) and those that have even just a little shred of sense. Fun threads are fun threads, but when they're pointless, they're pointless. BK told me that once, "sorry, I don't like pointless threads... ~locked"

And also, reminders on double and even triple posting. That's why there's an edit button for Pete's sake...

To correct someone, insults aren't needed. -.-

And just because this forum isn't serious doesn't mean you can stupid. And English is hard enough for people who don't understand it. We definitely don't need more slang.

Look, you need to stop being defensive. I have a problematic cognitive process (similar to your dyslexia), but so what? I've posted enough for some regulars to recognise that I'm not good at making concise posts and good sentence construction. They can either read or ignore my posts. No big deal.

The main thing is do our best to put a point across well. You should adopt this attitude for yours, too. If you post often, frequent regulars will learn to associate your posting style quirk (in this case, your dyslexia) with you enough to accept these mistakes in your future posts as the norm.

yes i am a litle defencife bequise i get qomplaints about how i right, but i understand what he say.
but i am just saying my opion.

It's a not-to-serious online forum, not a college debate room, so stop being so damn whiney. You were cool before jay, I can appreciate your angry spirit, but lately you've been nothing but a boob running around saying how stupid the posts on this forum are. PLEASE get over yourself. In the long run, it really doesn't matter as long as the rules are followed...

The rest of the message is fine. There are some common post mechanics that people really need to look into.

Some of us ARE trying to be serious, and trying to make this into a decent forum where it's not filled with crap. And is saying nub or 1337 appropriate? Is it against the rules?

I'd like to request an addition as well, that our Jay frequently violates himself. Respect and no flaming. Don't call people retards, idiots, whatever other insult your mind can come up with, because instead of solving the problem it puts people on the defensive. Not to mention making you look like a complete ass. Rudeness is not a proper way to post.

I forgot to say that too. They deserve it, but you are pretty much breaking a different kind of etiquette.

but i must agree what these guys say, this is not a leedspeak forum ( for the guys that dont no leedspeak is that is somthing like 1337, that is how some pro gamers talk ) so come on people and try to speak english here the best u can.

Latagore wrote:

Ugh, is this just becoming a debate? Just type as best as you can on the forum. You can type how you want to in your PMs, unless your recipient gets annoyed with the style in which you do it. Some people (me, for one) don't understand "respecta". *coughs*

EDIT:

miyuXXkanata wrote:

Oh wait, I have an idea about the grammar and spelling errors.

Why don`t you open a microsoft word or Wordperfect and write down what you`d like post and just hit the spell check and the grammar check. Then when there`s no more errors, copy, paste, and post (:

How`s that?

Or how about you get Firefox? -.- It already has spell check.

ehe 1 problem, most of the time spelling checker do not even understand the words i type.

so i do my best and that its, i am not going to let some one check avry post i make.
live whit it, or to bad for u.
