Has anyone ever wondered if common sense is really that common? Because it seems to me that everyone is lacking it considering that I hear, on a regular basis, "use some common sense." or something along those lines. I am sure everyone has been told that at some point or another, therefore I have determined that common sense is quite actually "uncommon." Because what might be common knowledge to one person could be otherwise to another. It all lies in the "eye of the beholder," meaning that common sense is subjective (or what people deem as common sense is subjective), and henceforth shall not be referred to as "common sense" any longer.

I've always believed that everyone has common sense, it's just that they don't use in. There's no excuse for ignorance, not in this day and age.

I'm not sure anymore. The way people act these days, I'm wondering is common sense a hereditary thing because a lot of people just seem to lack it dearly. but I agree with LosingOrbits though.

What is it?

Common sense is a thought of what is the right or wrong thing to do. Basically like your conscience.

No, not really.

Common sense is basically knowledge that you should not have to gain through experience.
Like the fact that sticking your face in a fire will hurt. Or the fact that sticking your wang in a blender may not be a good idea.

It's always 20/20.

I'm not sure if you're joking or not. Hindsight is the opposite of common sense. Common sense comes before. Hindsight comes after.

"...Common sense consists of what people in common would agree on ..." says the Wiki page. Answers.com says it's a "sound judgment not based on specialized knowledge."

If it does not require any specialization; and if it's what most people prefer, then we might say that common sense is a normal way to use the human brains in processing thoughts. This world is ever changing and full of deformities-- there's good and there's bad, there's normal and there's not. If there's an ordinary way to process thoughts then there's an extraordinary way, too.

Common sense is a common thought of common group of people. Nowadays, it might have evolved from typical to atypical, either a more-than-average or lower-than-average one. It depends on the person on how he uses the "powerul CPU" of his being. I think, saying "use your/some common sense" to a fellow person is like telling that person to think normally. To me, that person being told by those phrases is thinking BEYOND THE COMMON SENSE... An unusual mind with vast imagination. Unique and interesting person.
