Not just any shooting game, more specifically first-person shooters. I grew up playing FPS games on PC (where it belongs) but all of a sudden everyone started playing it on console.

Heck no it didn't start with Halo. I remember when DOOM and Duke Nukem were all the rage back in the day. Used to play both of them like crazy. Halo is just the biggest one of this decade.

If fps "belongs" to PC then the favourite platform wouldnt be consoles like it is. Bringing FPS's on consoles just gives the genre a lot more potential audience. I prefer FPS on console, seems just easier to get into games etc. I only really play strategy and sim games on PC.

FPS games on consoles always tend to be slowed down experiences of their PC counterparts.
Even with the sensitivity maxed, it's still slower than PC.
Nothing beats a mouse and keyboard when it comes to speed and accuracy. Also, PC doesn't get that auto-aim bullshit console games get.

I think the real obsession with shooters did start with halo and XBL, though. There was an opening in the game industry for a retarded version of Mos Eisley. Counter-strike just wasn't big enough to fit all the idiots. So XBL swooped in and filled that gap. This allowed a large number of retards to congregate and insult each other, as it didn't require investing in a computer.

FPS on console = too slow and boring

The reason why the FPS market shifted to console is because console market = $$$

Oh well.

I would like to say that I agree with Libara about putting FPS games on a console gives them a wider audience, but I'm not going to get into an argument about PC V.S. Console when it comes down to this, as both have their merits, and no matter how much you would like to disagree you know that this is true, as people like me that are casual gamers, have better things to spend a few hundred to a couple of grand on than a gaming rig, are going to lean more to console's, than computers,

But honestly the obsessions with the classics such as Doom, Duke Nukem, Quake, ect.

my first experience with shooting games started in the original time crisis.(about 10 year ago)
its revolutionary when u can shoot and duck at that time!!!!
for the pc the first one that got me hook up is the original half life, the story is epic and the multiplayer was super fun!play it everyday with friend on cyber cafe at that time !!

op are you fucking troll really???? My 1st fps was doom and wolfenstien 3d for ms-dos pc's pack in the early 90's. There are some fps games I do like and others that are just complete crap and are milked for the purpose of making money "call of duty" I am looking at you. I happen to like halo to certain extent but not like some people do. I prefer playing fps games on my pc because the controls, online multi-player is better. I will admit however i did have fun from my child hood playing golden eye hours on end just on multiplayer with other people.

My obsession with FPS? It started with Doom. You click start, you have a gun, you shoot stuff. You can't beat that kind of simplicity combined with the mass destruction you cause.

I never really got into FPS games. I played a little Doom and Quake ages ago, and it was pretty fun. Descent was probably my favorite.

i've played doom , wolfenstein and many others when i was young they were the same so i didn't really like them that much they put me to sleep with the simple ai and bland environment .

even the new ones aren't that fun , but i guess because of multiplayer/online the games aren't that boring .

I remember seeing DOOM being Demo'd by a couple of salesman at the computer store at the mall when I was little, and thinking - HOLY SHIT. Never seen anything like it. It was a big jump from the NES I was used to.

I played it several years later, and it still scared the hell out of me. Duke Nukem was good, too! Especially the women. >.<

Glad someone else remembers those games besides me >.<
