I have thought about giving up video games altogether, or wondering if I should have stopped playing them years ago. Two reasons why...

1. I've been feeling out of touch with today's video games. Some of what I still enjoy are a few indie games which are not well known outside of their niche, non-inclusive fandom. And the other video games that I enjoy are typically rather old, and pretty dull by today's standards.

2. I'm not sure how I feel about other fans. It still seems odd to think that there might be more than a handful of adults who would admit in public that they have any interest in video games. Part of this feeling is tied to my self image... if I'm not the only adult who still likes games, then I might no longer be a unique individual. I have weird worries like this...

...So yeah, after work I occasionally play video games. Mostly while commuting by bus or train. But I suspect that very few of the games I like have more than a dozen other fans, and I'm not sure what I think of those other fans.

I myself have went through phases of not playing certain games. Might get bored of one and play another. But in general, I can't quiet myself. I always make sure there's time for gaming.

I both really enjoy and am frustrated by modern gaming. In a post play, create ,share world where we can create the very worlds we play in i'm
stunned that we can't to this day create how we play. There are a few examples like resistance,resistance2,3 and the conduit but they're STILL the exceptions to the rule rather than the rule. When games were in 2d,2.5d or using the yellow camera buttons and a single analog stick things were fine but when dual analog arrived without FULL CUSTOMIZATION i had to take drastic action or quit gaming.

I found a ps2 pad called the gamester phoenix revolution controller. It was special because it allowed you to place the face buttons,d-pad and l / r analog sticks into 4 slots on the controller and things were good on ps2 and xbox until 360 arrived with a lock n key system for their controllers then using my custom scheme developed on the revolution i paid some1 to mod my 360 pads the same way i played with the revolution and it worked well. I even found a better playstation FULLY CUSTOMIZABLE pad than even my modded 360 controllers.

It was better because the d-pad is 3x larger than the 360 has. It's important as i use the d-pad as my face buttons and my face buttons as my d-pad+southpaw sticks and inverted aim. Because of the better ps3 controller i get most games on ps3 with only exclusives on 360 and wii though before i had the superior ps3 setup it was about 50-50 between 360 and ps3.

What about wii, kinect and move also known as wiiHD well with both wii / move all i need do is use the navigator in my right hand and the wand in my left. KINECT is also easy to use but without a wand/nav system there's no halo or cod using kinect.

Other than frustration with the lack of fully customizable games, insomniac made resistance and ratchet but ratchet lacks the ability to use your custom set up from resistance-that's sad,i'm also not fond of needing 3 boxes to play :lbp, halo, metroid, uncharted, mario, killzone, gears and zelda ,why are game consoles not like blu-ray or dvd players where you simply buy 1 and stock up on all the movies you can watch.

What would happen if disney, sony, paramount, mgm, dreamworks and 20th century fox for no reason but greed made us get their player to play their movies?

I'd rather see sony, nintendo and ms release a system with the same power under the hood and you'd still have fans of xbox, playstation and wii but this time you pick your favorite brand and can play ALL the games i listed before and then some as you need only 1 system
the money you'd waste on the other 2 could be spent on even more games than you thought you could ever afford.

I can't see myself ever not gaming and i'd really hate to miss event games like lbp, uncharted, killzone, halo, gears, metroid, mario or zelda
but i also am pretty unmoved by the promise of better graphics as games have never looked better and the question must be asked how much more would you want to pay for that shine $89-$150 a game regular edition with special legendary pricing climbing to $300. a game. The HD makeover from ps2-ps3 put quite a few studio under or made them sell out to bigger studio's.

Gaming has never looked or sounded better but the saddest thing to me is that after the release of the dualshock 1 everything options wise stopped, game options still are what we saw back on ps1 and that has to change.

Quit gaming? As in, stop? Oh no, I couldn't do that even if you gave me all the willpower in the world. Simply because it's something I enjoy. :>

Yeah, many people gripe on this as well, I wonder if there's something within the developer space that we don't know, maybe there's something about customisable controls that the developers don't like? I really don't get it though, I believe Bioshock 1/2 had fully customisable controls, MoH:Rising Sun on the PS2 (which sucked) had fully customisable controls...

It does really suck that whenever I alternate between 2 FPS games with different controls, I get used to one game's controls a session, only to go back to the other game and have to get used to that game's controls.

Anyway, ontopic, I have never once thought about quitting gaming, it's something I love to do and as the Ocean Banana says -

You never quit gaming, its a lifestyle you live.
you may take breaks here and there, but when your favorite game releases or a game which catches your interest.
you will play again.

unless you have a family to support and etc.

I'm sick of gaming myself. That's why I am falling back to anime. I have a few games I really love and one I am currently playing on and off that I admit has potential to be a favorite. The only problem is that I don't enjoy most games and wasting money on a game is more likely than wasting money on anime that I thoroughly researched or are streamed on this site.

Sometimes people just lose interest because they get new priorities when they age. Taking a break helps and coming back to the hobby after a long time allows for good games to become plentiful. I tend to only play when I am off school and I feel it is quite rewarding. If I play during normal times I'll feel like gaming is a hassle as it just gets in the way.
