A question to the admins. If crunchyroll 720 played fine in the browser why would the app not play fine. In the forum linking here a superadmin wrote that it was set to SD as HD playback was not supported but that was posted sometime in first half last year. Who sets these flags and why have they not kept up to date with the progress? As stated previously the browser played back no problems 720.

It's not that playing back 720p wasn't supported it's that Boxee removed the ability to display alternate links for videos in apps. I imagine they don't want to set it to just automatically play the highest available resolution since not everybody has the bandwidth to support it and if there's no way to select an alternate resolution they won't be able to play videos. Boxee promised to replace the missing API but that was almost a year ago and they haven't done anything about it yet. My solution was to change the script so it automatically plays back the highest resolution and gives you an option to try forcing it because sometimes it doesn't recognise 720p as available when it is. Like I said though this solution wouldn't work for people on slower connections because it doesn't give you an option to drop down to a lower quality if your connection isn't good enough.

KalenXI how did you change the python script. I up until recently watched crunchyroll using the boxee browser app as I could select HD. A recent change to the boxee browser app makes it freeze when trying to access crunchyroll and the crunchyroll app still plays SD. I would appreciate assistance in getting back to HD for crunchyroll.

This won't work if you're using Boxee Box instead of the computer app because I don't think you can get to the file system on that, but if you're running it on a computer I can post the part I modified.

Setting the Boxee Box to 720p (from my 1080p I set before) helped reduce the stutter but it did it still had slight lag.

Having 720p option (best would be a settings page where you can set the default) has been said numerous times and I hope it will come in the near future.

Another very annoying thing: It does not log me in automatically after I rebooted the Boxee Box! I always have to re-login :/

Greetings!

I have an update to make for those of you following closely the development of boxee box.

With the new firmware update that just hit roughly two days ago came a lot of fixes and revamping of the boxee browser. Initially I reported that one could play videos from boxee box at 720p without much issue except for an issue that spawned a black box when going to full-screen. Well, I have tested it out and that has been remedied.

You can now enjoy (provided that you don't mind tinkering with the boxee browser) Crunchyroll at 720p via the browser. However, I will advise that you set the resolution of your boxee box to 720p. I have noticed slight stuttering with the subtitles but nothing really out of hand (I will add that I have seen slight stuttering even using the CR application).

At this time, this is the best possible workaround that I could find to make viewing CR content at the highest possible resolution acceptable.

Now, it's just a matter of time (probably months) before we have the convenience of seeing all of the content in highest quality via the CR application. So until then, give the browser a try!

Tip: I offer a tip when navigating after a video has ended. Use the menu button to leave full-screen mode by selecting "leave to browser" or something of that nature. It should release you from full-screen so that you can navigate the website for your next video.

I get the same error. Don't know if it's an issue with the app needing to be updated for BoxeeBox or it's just a new bug in BoxeeBox but it's a pain not being able to use the app. The app worked fine up until this latest update. I hope it's fixed soon.

We've contaced Boxee to try to fix this problem - it appears to be a bug on their end with the latest Boxee update, not in our app specifically.

I am unsure if it is just my configuration or what. I have an LCD TV with max resolution of 1024x768. I have configured my built Boxee Box to display in 4:3 mode. While watching "Reborn" episodes, I still seem to have black bars around the film. Any suggestions on what I need to change to view these fullscreen? I am happy with the service and do plan on continuing my Premium subscription.

Earlier episodes of Reborn are shown in 4:3 aspect ratio and the later ones are shown in 16:9 aspect ratio. So, if you're watching the latter episodes, you would have black bars at the top and bottom of the video in order to keep the proper aspect ratio.

I'm not sure if there's any option through Boxee to zoom or stretch the video but I personally wouldn't recommend it since it would look weird. Though incorrect aspect ratios bother me so that would be my bias.
