So far so good with the new App. One suggestion would be some way to jump on the alphabetical list. As it is now, you can spend a very long time scrolling from A-Z. The queue helps but not when you are initially selecting shows.

Completely agree! Finding the show you want to watch now is a complete pain with the linear navigation, especially if the show is at the end of the alphabet. Then, if you want to go back you have to scroll back through all of the shows again! However, having the queue will make returning to the show much easier in the future. And I have noticed a faster load and buffering time.

Hi,

My wife and I have been playing around with the new app this evening. It looks nice but I don't know. For us, it seems much slower to navigate with, especially for shows with hundreds of episodes. When browsing the Naruto Shippuden page, for example, the app seems to hang for several seconds about every 20 episodes while it loads thumbnails. It's taking forever to scroll to the end of the list.

Also, with the old system, you could navigate in a non-linear manner using the alphabet bar on the side--now it looks like users have to scroll through every single Crunchyroll title from A to B in a strictly linear path. Hmm.

Sorry, I really hate to complain and I know somebody must have put a lot of work into this new app but is anybody else finding it a bit inefficient to use compared to the old one? I hope CR is planning optimize it soon. The new app's rigidness discourages free exploration of CR's library, at least on the Boxee Box.

On the plus side: the personalized queue is pretty cool--it almost makes up for the awkward browsing. Being logged in automatically is also quite nice! For the time being though, I think we're going to do our browsing outside of the new app and load up our queue for later viewing.

I agree as well. The main flaw with the new UI is the navigation. Everything else is awesome. The fact that you can't scroll through a list of 300 episodes (e.g. Naruto) fairly quickly is huge. With the old UI, ongoing series started at the latest episode and worked their way back to episode 1. The new UI starts with episode 1 regardless. I can think of two fixes:

1) Allow users to hit the arrow left when they first arrive on episode 1 which would take them to last episode.

2) Change the layout so that ongoing episodes start at the latest episode and allow you to scroll all the way to episode 1.

A mix of both fixes would be awesome.

I also found browsing anime a little more difficult. The old UI allowed you to see a lot more at one time. (Grid view) Whereas this new UI only allows you to see about 4 titles at once.

One problem I am finding is periodically, no matter how many times you start and restart the app, sometimes subtitles will not show up. I've tried launching the app at least 10 times for the last episode of Tsuritama, and nothing. I even try running it on my laptop and its fine, but no subtitles on the Boxee Box. But when I go to other shows, it works fine. I had this problem with the most recent episode of Mysterious Girlfriend X as well, though it eventually resolved itself.

As of about 20 min ago the app is stuck at the initial loading screen. Because you made it with a exit button it's impossible to stop unless you restart the Boxee box.

I like a lot of the changes, but some are a step back from what we had, there are simulcasts missing from that section, the app crashed numerous times on you and me current episode. And now it's stuck at the main loading screen and effectively freezing the whole Boxee unit. One other thing, the pause/play button does nothing.

I am also getting the loading freeze today. It was working fine yesterday. Also pause appears to be assigned to the middle button instead of the pause (top) button.

Okay, first thing THANK YOU for finally working on this thing again. I had entirely given up on watching Crunchyroll on the boxee. Yea, the web interface works, but it was clunky and annoying.

So the overall interface is a winner. There are a couple things that need to be ironed out and I really hope it doesn't take another two or three years to get it done. But yea, that small snark aside, it is rather nice to have a 'mostly' functioning app at this point. Sure as heck beats the mostly non-functioning version that was up previously.

Sorry if this is a silly question - but I can't seem to find the Crunchyroll app within Boxee!

How did you guys download the app? I went to the Apps section, then searched through the list for Crunchyroll - but I couldn't find anything.

Btw, I'm using Boxee software on a Windows PC. Thanks!

I also just fired up Boxee on my Windows PC and the Crunchyroll app is nowhere to be found. This is a serious problem!
