I kinda feel the same, as if they are leaving the Boxee behind and turning their focus on the Roku. I stream quite a bit from my NAS so the boxee was and still is the better solution for me, but I would like to have fully functionality of CR back.

Like others I have gotten an email response to the Boxee issue, however I find it a bit odd that a company wouldn't make it more public that they are working on the issue. Furthermore not giving and ETA and just leaving us hanging without knowing much of anything is not a very good way to run a business imo.

Basically I got two responses

Response #1

We're sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. There is current a bug that is causing most videos to not be accessible through our Boxee app. We are looking into this now and will have it fixed as soon as we can.

In the mean time, we suggest using the Boxee browser to access Crunchyroll.com, login to your account and watch the videos through our service.

We're looking into some Boxee issues now so I'll see if there's anything we can do about that. Though, it may be a problem on Boxee's end which we wouldn't be able to do anything about.


I'm not sure how it can be a Boxee issue since the last firmware update was in May I believe. If this was a Boxee issue they would have been apparent quite a while ago, not randomly just start as this issue did. It usually takes a change, and there really hasn't been a whole lot on the Boxee side from what I can tell.

Hopefully they are busy working on a new app that works similar to the Roku app. However if their responsiveness to this issue is any indicator I wouldn't hold your breath.

I suspect that has to do with the numbers sold of each device, and the need to prioritize Crunchyroll's limited programming resources.

I don't know the sales numbers for the Boxee Box, but I know Roku passed the 1 million mark earlier this year. Given that Roku has been around a lot longer, and is about one third to one half the price of the Boxee (depending on the Roku unit selected), I would expect it outnumbers the Boxee Box by a huge margin.

If Crunchyroll was able to get an app on the PS3 or XBOX 360 (where we are talking 10 of millions of units), I expect even the Roku would get the short shrift.

For me, it's not fixed. I'm still viewed as a non-premium member. It's a shame we can't watch our fav. anime in the living room. Now we're just sitting at our own laptop watching anime. I blame crunchyroll not boxee box.

I think we need to separate the different issues CR's app has:

1) There is a CR Boxee Application (written by CR) and the Video Player (really just the Boxee Web Browser that gets called when you select the video you want). Long time issue that still exists is the login for the Boxee Application doesn't propagate your credentials to the web browser. Work around is to open the boxee browser, go to CR.com and log in. This has to be done every few weeks. STILL BROKEN for MONTHS.

2) Titles in the CR Boxee Application were all marked Premium (including all the old non-premium), and the application would not allow you to play even if you were were logged as a premium member. This broke Friday 9/23 and was fixed recently.

Actually he is right.

I just tried the CR Boxee Box app and I could not view the most recent episode of Bleach, it said it was only for premium members. I can access older ones but since it does not acknowledge my premium subscription they are in craptacular SD. I ended up using the boxee box browser which made due, but was a lot more work and less reliable (it crashes the browser a lot) to get an episode to play..

At this point I am fairly upset they have not said a single word in this thread, nor on the site that they are working on a quite obvious issue. This worked great during my trial, and while I know its coincidence I am rather peeved that now its basically unusable via the CR app on my Boxee Box.

It would be nice if someone from CR would at least tell us what the situation is, even if there is no ETA.. Just tell us something. Leaving your customers in the dark is never a good idea in business. The fact that no one at CR has even replied to this or the other boxee thread makes me quite irritated, and quite honestly less likely to renew next time around.

CR reps/devs/anyone can you hear me??!!?! Throw us a bone here!

@PSXBatou, Confirmed, I cannot view the episode either. It comes up with a star. I get the dialog box. I did not see this issue on other new shows such as Blue Exorcist. I suspect there's a data issue on the CR backend.

@motytrah, you're right I can see older episodes correctly now. It seems to only be the simulcast new episodes that is the issue now. That and the boxee box tends to leave a cursor on the screen when I play. If i say "go to browser" it fixes it, but I don't remember having to do that a few weeks ago.

We've contacted Boxee about this but haven't heard back yet. Once we figure out why premium benefits aren't being recognized, we'll have it fixed.

Thanks for the update, hopefully the collective minds at Boxee and CR can figure this one out Curiously is there is a JIRA submitted for this issue that we can can look at or is it strictly being handled internal?

Another work around for current simulcast shows is to search for the episode in the app, then you can watch it. It only seems to not work when you click from the main window. The search method works much better than the browser that's for sure. The older shows are working for me now, its just current simulcast shows that I have issues with.

I'm in the same boat as you, I just check here and try the app every now and then. Hopefully it will be fixed sooner than later, I think next week is a month if my memory serves me correct.

I have a yearly account and a Boxee Box. I cannot access my premium content. It tells me that it's only for premium members.

I've replaced by Roku with a Boxee Box. I'd very much like to get this resolved fast.

You should be able to watch anything that isnt a new simulcast, I can. If you want to watch a simulcast you need to search for it in the app as I explained in the post right above yours

Its almost been a month its been this way, a week or so a go everything but the simulcasts couldn't be viewed without searching, now its the opposite way which is at least a bit more convenient. I think the search method has worked most always, you can also use the boxee browser but that's prone to crashing.
