We are not as intelligent as we think we are.
I think we give ourselves too much credit..

That is all I can really say lol.

Intelligence has nothing to do with the disastrous path humanity is now walking. It's simple, contrary to idealistic thinking, nature isn't about balance, it's about death and destruction. All things lead to death and destruction, we all know this intrinsically and therefore we live selfishly. It's instinct not intelligence.

that's a very cynical view.

You state that all problems result from our humanity. The opposite is true as well. Some people are not able to cherish true happiness and love without sadness and pain.
Also, what does intelligence have to do with pain, sadness, and happiness? Like someone said, 'non-intelligent' creatures are able to feel emotions as well.

Can a human being really live each and every day in perfect harmony, with no conflict? I believe the answer is no. Conflict is a part of human life, a very important part, and despite how much we hate it, we couldnt live without it. How important is a life with no conflict? The human mind, constantly craving power and happiness, will one day fall to itself, fall to its greed, fall to its hunger when there is nothing left for it to eat.

No offense, but it seems like you put together non-coherent phrases together in order to make it sound intelligent. Or at least not elaborated properly. Why can't we live a life without conflict and why is it important? What is the premise of the human mind being naturally greedy?

I believe that greed is a learned trait. With nothing but success in life (specifically, of monetary value), people come to a psychological emptiness. This is where greed comes in. Not being able to see the value of empathy, compassion, friendship, love and trust, people seek other ways to achieve happiness and thus become greedy. It has nothing to do with intelligence. Rather, it is a part of humanity that we must understand in order to live a more fulfilling life.

intelligence is what made you humans survive all throughout the history.

because you humans have it, that's why you learned how to eat and survive for the day, it made you think of ways to make hard chores easy for example by using machines, it made you think that a ruler must supervise and guide a group of people; it made you turn harmful electricity into a very helpful element in everyday life;

but at the same time it's what you humans used to build weapons to destroy each other;

but this doesnt state that intelligence is neither a gift or a curse. it's neutral. it's on how you humans used it. if it's a curse, think of you humans not figuring out things because simply you're not intelligent of thinking. If it's a curse, think of all the benefit it gave you before calling it a curse.

God-light speed!!!

I don't think you're using intelligence quite right.. It's more that we are able to rationalize, but not necessarily be intelligent
I believe it is neither and both, a curse or a gift, it all depends on how one decides to use it; that's why we rationalize.

This is a topic I've been thinking about for some time now. As we all know, humans are the only intelligent species on the planet. Intelligent as in, are capable of learning, judging, and making concious decisions.
Throughout history, mankind has strived for greatness and power. This can be seen with both world wars, Hitler in general, Joseph Stalin, and even the formation of the United States. Lets face it, mankind as a whole, desires power. But why does the most powerful species on the planet desire more power than it already has? Greed has led us to do unspeakable things in order to achieve our goals of power or happiness. Greed has led us to kill hundreds of millions of people for the success of our goals.
I have always, wondered, what happens when there is nothing left for mankind to strive for? When there are no peoples to kill, or no reason to kill them. When there are no resources to hoard, or no wars to fight. When mankind has expanded itself into the galaxy and can go no further, what will happen to us? Can a human being really live each and every day in perfect harmony, with no conflict? I believe the answer is no. Conflict is a part of human life, a very important part, and despite how much we hate it, we couldnt live without it. How important is a life with no conflict? So I ask everyone, is intelligence a gift, or a curse? Should we be thankful that we are able to think for ourselves, or are we better off like dogs, merely following our instincts, doing the bare minimum to survive? I'd be delighted to hear the opinions of others.

I believe intelligence is both a gift and a curse. I enjoyed this post a lot, I enjoy others opinions also. It is part of human kind to crave what they don't have and once they acquire it, they want something else. This fits with what you had said. On a matter of being better off? I think as a whole of a species was to be intelligent, due to so far into our evolution. Our survival instincts are that of judgment and conscious decision. Face it with out our superior intelligence we all would be a very inferior race and most likely die off. We are able to grow and adapt unlike any other creatures. At least at the rate that we do. We wouldn't be as capable of providing ourselves say if we lived like any random creature. Our intelligence growing and expanding, I do too believe will be the end of us, but way before we our out of things to be so greedy over or even have learned and have all their is to have. That happening is highly improbable, we as people start to get satisfied and then we also create more wants. Conflict whether it is intelligent or not will be the ultimate down come of us all. We will most likely advance to a point where we will deteriorate as a whole. We reap what we sow. We are planting seeds of destruction with killing over religious beliefs and money, both which have nothing behind them but a persons faith of its worth. Not with just religion but even land and water matters, Fighting over who should own what and why, we are all one why fight over parts of something that we all share as a whole?

Wow dude. I love the topic. It's quite new, and something I haven't seen before. Amen!! Well in my opinion, intelligence is actually a gift in the first place. Face it, without geeks and smart people there would be no technology and what's worse, the world would be ruled by incapable minds filled with stupidity. I mean, intelligent people are already making horrible decisions in our world as leaders, what more if it had to be airheads that couldn't think properly without their moms telling them what the hell to do?

Well, as I said intelligence WAS originally a gift. But people now are not using it in a good way. In fact some are not using it at all. They are too self-absorbed with their cravings for money, power, fame and, well, you know the rest. It's their fault for not using the gift given to them. It's their fault for falling into the temptation of their feelings of greed etc. And I think with such talented people going to waste, then, the world is DOOMED to fall unless the leaders have good-self control of themselves.

The question isn't will it cause our demise, it's WHEN will it cause our demise! We can't avoid this.
