Yeah right!! humans aren't the only smart ones in the world!! if you teach an animal to do something it can do it. Every animal knows how to judge! An animal isn't as stupid as you people think they are. Animals are very quite smart. SO STOP BEING CONCEITED ABOUT THE ANIMALS! CAUSE' THE REALITY IS THAT WE ARE ALL ACTUALLY JUST ANIMALS!!!!!!!!

Like we have seen in many doomsday movies, probably , there are 2 major causes of our own extinction.
1) We start killing ourselves
- World war 3 occurs, nuclear , biological , chemical weapons causing collateral damage.
- Some 'perfectionist' group tries to eradicate the world with a deadly virus like in <L-Saves the world>
- Nations converge into one, leader arises, persecutes most if not all of mankind.
- One day all the militaries of the world became computerised , and a programme error causes them to eradicate humans. <I.Robot>

2) The environment kills us.
- Flash floods
-Tsunamis
-Droughts wiping out food chains
-Earth imploding
- Black hole
- Medium or large Near earth object crashes into earth, meaning asteroids/comets

ember: I have no idea what intelligent leaders you are referring to. And don't mix politics with intelligence. And political decisions are made for popularity and ideals, not intelligence. I long for intelligence. What you refer to as self-absorption might be called ambition. And it might not even be the goal. A writer writes because he/she likes to, to get books published, to produce something of cultural value. Money and fame might easily be secondary. In fact, it might be a nuisance. Some choose pseudonyms. Leaders have no obligation to do anything. In a democracy it is the citizens that must force them to do the right thing, or keep their word. I never blame a politician that gets away with something because people let him/her.
uber: yes we can.
mingler: you have mentioned some things that have nothing to do with our intelligence. A meteor crashing into earth can hardly be caused by our intelligence. Also, some of what you mentioned are unlikely to kill all.

cant say that humans are intelligent beings if i think about where this world is going
because of humans. Intelligence itself isnt going to take us anywhere but how people
are going to use ''it.''
''there is at least two endless things, stupidity of humans and space. Actually i am not
sure about the later one.''

This is a topic I've been thinking about for some time now. As we all know, humans are the only intelligent species on the planet. Intelligent as in, are capable of learning, judging, and making concious decisions.
Throughout history, mankind has strived for greatness and power. This can be seen with both world wars, Hitler in general, Joseph Stalin, and even the formation of the United States. Lets face it, mankind as a whole, desires power. But why does the most powerful species on the planet desire more power than it already has? Greed has led us to do unspeakable things in order to achieve our goals of power or happiness. Greed has led us to kill hundreds of millions of people for the success of our goals.
I have always, wondered, what happens when there is nothing left for mankind to strive for? When there are no peoples to kill, or no reason to kill them. When there are no resources to hoard, or no wars to fight. When mankind has expanded itself into the galaxy and can go no further, what will happen to us? Can a human being really live each and every day in perfect harmony, with no conflict? I believe the answer is no. Conflict is a part of human life, a very important part, and despite how much we hate it, we couldnt live without it. How important is a life with no conflict? The human mind, constantly craving power and happiness, will one day fall to itself, fall to its greed, fall to its hunger when there is nothing left for it to eat.

So I ask everyone, is intelligence a gift, or a curse? Should we be thankful that we are able to think for ourselves, or are we better off like dogs, merely following our instincts, doing the bare minimum to survive? I'd be delighted to hear the opinions of others.

think positively = a gift
think negatively = a curse

you can choose anyone of them. You can choose to be like a dog, or to feel the pain of thinking. What I suggest everyone to do is to cherish what they have. That's all. Oh... if you want to be happy that is, and again if being happy is important

once there is nothing else to strive for, thats when things start to fracture and splinter off into separate groups. thats when (sorry to bring taoism into this) the yin triumphs over the yang, as it always does. history shows this time and again with almost every large empire in history. besides the fact that i think its impossible for there to be nothing to strive for, nowhere to expand to, no resources to hoard, and no reason to fight, the structure that allowed us to get that far in the first place will crumble before we ever reach that point.

i don't think its intellect that is the curse, i think its our natural instincts. its not our intellect that makes us want to hoard goods, land, and weapons, its our survival instincts that are constantly warning us that there could be some outside threat that will swoop in and take some of it away at any time, so we have to have enough that it can't all be taken away at once.

basically, it is because of the fear that we have. Sad, but true. We built this world based on fear.

btw what if we eliminate those fear? artificially eliminate them i mean.
