I don't like either of these terms. I'm an anime and manga fan.

A casual anime fan. But my interest in japanese culture doesn't stem from that.

Otaku and Weeboo to me are two different terms.
For those of you that don't dislike to be called these terms as I've seen quite a few on this thread then you're considered as "Casual Anime Fan", which means you watch anime and read manga, but you're not passionate about it compared to your Otaku comrades. Otaku are more like "Anime Enthusiasts" such as myself that collect figurines, put posters around your room (Video game posters too), play Anime visual novels (Ecchi or not), having a 55 inch TV in your room for the sake of watching anime and playing video games at 1080P and things that would extend the hobby of an anime fan. Most of the things I listed I have or do myself, but I'm also not a stereotypical anime geek society would come to expect since I wear casual (fashionable?) clothes and I don't try to pretend I'm Japanese by saying phrases like "Kawaii" or "Nani?". To me, unless you only know how speak Japanese fluently, is just plain awkward in conversations among anime fans because regardless if you tell me these nice little phrases showing off your Japanese knowledge cause you hear it over and over in Japanese anime Episode , I'm not going to understand your moonspeak because I'm fluent in English and would appreciate we discuss about something using only English. A weeboo is like the shadow of the Anime community, the people who take it one step to far that's unnecessary. A's I mention before these type of Anime fans tend to speak Japanese phrases cause they (probably) might think it will make them look cool among their friends or cause they wanna be Japanese when they really are not, it bothers me. Another thing is when Weeboos (usually girls) say out in public "SASUKE MY HUSBAND AND WE'RE MARRIED!" or she calls her plushie her "husbands" and carries them around. Look, I myself jokingly say Kirino from Oreimo or Sena from Tomodachi are my waifus, but I'm not an extremist and take it seriously cause I'm aware they are not real (Unless of course a girl happens to cosplay as Sena and makes my dreams come true), A Weeboo is much like the SonicFags of the Sonic community when you compare them to "Sonic fans", or arguably The My Little Pony Fanbase Community. I'm not really trying to offend anyone here, I'm just letting you guys know there is a clear difference between "Otaku" and "Weeboo", it all depends how you approach anime guys. Don't take it to seriously, if you love a certain show and buy merchandise for it like figurines then that's pretty awesome and its a cool thing for anime fans to discuss and share their collection among each other. But don't take that one step over the line, because chances are you're not going to be fond by anyone including Anime fans. |
