i really wanna get this deal, but id be wasting so much money on top of the ones i already did at black friday. i finds adding drama to this is pointless for me since i don't like watching dramas unless they are viet dub. but i really want the shirt even though it doesn't look that great. hmmm choices.

Can crunchyroll sell the t-shirt individually? xD
Posted 11/28/10
Just buy this and under account settings go to premium membership status and click cancel renewal, you then fill in questionaire and submit and it done. you then don't have to pay the 100 dollars after, you can choose to renew or not.

Also to gift someone ask them to change password let u sign in, buy it, then sign out and tell them to change password back and u done

Dammit Crunchyroll, I hate you guys. I was so going to drop you at the end of my subscription and then you do this and draw me back in. Well, here's to 12 more months of simulcasted anime. I just got to remember to switch back to anime only next year, unless you pull some other stunt like this.

BasouKazuma wrote:As for this deal; if you have a recurring subscription, purchasing this deal will automatically disable your current subscription from renewing and have your new recurring subscription activate once your current one expires. Though this is not a lifetime pricing so the subscription is set to automatically renew at the rate of $99.95 every 12 months, starting from the end of the 12 months that you purchase for $49.95, unless you change your subscription.

Yeah, this worked out pretty good. In case anyone is wondering, here's the notifications I got:

1. Paypal cancel of current subscription. (Anime only)
2. Paypal notification of new subscription (Black-Friday all-access deal)
3. Paypal notification of new billing cycle beginning 12/2011 (usual all-access price once the Black-Friday deal runs out)

That last one I'll change before it goes through next year so this works out just like Basou said. Sure, I'll keep an eye out for account charges just to be sure but really, if you're a current anime member and want to continue... this is a no-brainer.

This is still $10 off anime only membership, so it's still a good deal and you have the option of watching drama if you want. You should check out k-drama, it's excellent.

So, if I choose to cancel my membership renewal, am I *really* only canceling the renewal? Or am I actually canceling my membership altogether at that point?

I'm having some trouble remembering, and I can't find clarification for this one way or the other on the site, but... I don't recall that there was a way to ONLY cancel your renewal a couple years ago. Instead you could only cancel your current membership. Furthermore, membership cancellation took effect immediately - as in, that day. If you'd paid for a month's worth of access, and then canceled, then too bad, you can't watch for the rest of that month, and there is no refund for the remaining days of that month. If you prepaid for more than a month, then they'd refund you whatever was left, but only based on as if you had been paying a by-the-month rate all that time. So if you paid $60 for a year of anime or drama, but canceled anytime after the beginning of month 9, you got no refund, since 9 months at a by-the-month rate would cost $63.

At least, that's the way I recall it being when I signed up 2 years ago. This sucked because it held (holds?) your viewing rights hostage, since no matter what time period you'd paid for, you'd loose your membership (and therefore your viewing rights) right then and there, rather than at the end of the prepaid time-period. I assume Crunchyroll did this on purpose to force people to accept auto-renewing membership charges, because very few people would willingly choose to opt-in for auto-renew otherwise. So the only way to get your full money's worth was to not cancel until the very last day, and then if you failed to cancel on that day you got automatically charged for another month/quarter/year's membership. And honestly, how many people are going to be diligent enough to remember to do that? Very few - and bet that Crunchyroll knew (knows?) this, and counted on it happening. Shinji, it'd be nice to have some clarification on whether or not this is still true.

Assuming it IS still true, then that means Crunchyroll is taking a smaller hit in the short term ($10-20), in order to get anime-only members (which, let us be honest, is the bulk of their membership) along with early-adopter all-access members (with lifetime locked-in rates) to pay significantly more for their membership ($30-40) the next time around, since if you cancel your membership you immediately loose your viewing rights and get little or no refund, and if you don't cancel your membership you'll get auto-charged by the auto-renewal for the full premium rate unless you are *very* diligent about remembering to cancel on your last day.

So for those of you who like both the dramas and the anime, and who either haven't already signed on for a premium membership yet or paid full current price for it, it's a good deal. But for the bulk of the members who mostly only like the anime (like myself), or who already have an early adopter lifetime rate locked in for the premium membership, this deal is a wolf-in-sheep's-clothing. Thanks but no thanks, Shinji, I'll keep my paid anime-only membership and simply continue to watch the one drama I like in lower definition, with ads, when it comes out a week or two later, as usual. You can keep the shirt, it's not much of a shirt anyway (at least offer it in black, fer crying out loud).

Sorry, but this is wrong.
You can cancel the renewal with no loss of membership. I, in fact, just did so.

It's not crunchyroll trying to screw you, just a good deal.

Yeah, I didn't lose my current anime membership when purchasing this, it just shows it to be cancelled when it runs out and the Black Friday deal is set to take over at that time. And for people who don't watch what's being auto-charged to your credit-card or Paypal accounts, well... that's your own damn fault. You got 12 months, so keep an eye on everything and you're set.
