"Well Thought Out Animes"
Posted 11/27/10 , edited 12/10/10
Basically, post your reasons for "Well Thought Out Animes". I don't think this is a duplicate, there is a "Best" anime thread, but this thread is focusing on reasons why some Animes are well thought out (storyline, characters, how it went, etc.) But, if there is already a similar existing thread, please delete this.

TL;DR : Post animes you thought were "well thought out" AND reasons why. Please post reasons, otherwise we would all just be posting anime names. I prefer to know why you THINK it's well thought out.

I'll update my list as I watch more Animes. Currently airing animes can posted as well.

Durarara!

*Maybe spoiler alert*

I really enjoyed this anime, it is not well thought as the series AsuraCyin mentioned, but everything
seems to be clear at the end of the serie. Every issue and questioned is linked to one thing that is
showed on the last episode, well almost everything.

If there was any anime that I thought that it went into an Ungodly amount of Detail, it would have to be Death Note

I felt like I was missing some animes I've watched, I've totally forgot about Death Note, lol. Yea, it's going to require a lot of detail for both seasons. I'll try and put it up as one of the animes on the list.

Ah! Finally somebody who likes "School Days" besides me! I love "School Days" and I think it's greatly misunderstood by most people. It has very deep and interesting characters that are very realistic, also the story is not about Romance, it's about the Loss of innocence, and I think a lot of people just don't get that aspect about it.
I must say, based on the majority of your picks, you have some pretty good taste in anime and storylines.
I suggest these to you as well.

1. FLCL (I would be more amazed if you've never seen it before.)
2. Bakemonogatari
3. Futakoi Alternative

Try those out, I bet you'll like them.

Besides the animes listed above, I nominate Serial Experiments Lain, Monster, and Akira (if this includes movies).

In order:

Detective Conan - Even 5 of the tricks would be incredibly hard to come up with, let alone 400+.

One Piece - It may look like a typical shounen, but there's evidence of the future plot developments even 300-400 episodes before they happen.

Mouryou no Hako - While the execution of the anime is not that good, the story makes Death Note look like a kid's anime (the depth of the story, not the events that take place).

Monster - I'd say it's one of the best written animes out there, and to do that it's obviously well thought out.

Mushishi - The features of the mushi are very well thought out, and provide some very interesting stories.

It's your own opinions on animes that were well thought out. I just want to see what people view as "well thought out", and the list above, is just my opinions on animes that were eitehr well made, or had well thought out parts. I'd prefer if everyone posted some reasons on what they believe were well thought out animes, but thanks for the posts.

EDIT: Any type of animes, whether they are 2 episode OVA's, or movies, or series.

ef - a tale of memories and
ef - a tale of melodies

When we think of what "well thought out" means, it usually refers to how well planned the plot of a story is. In my opinion the most important part of a well thought out anime is how the storyline is made so that it evokes certain emotions or opinions from the viewer. There are other aspects of an anime that can make it well thought out, though, such as animation style and music. The plot of the above animes was very impressive because of how the storyline and the characters connected and how it kept me engaged, but I also enjoyed the uses of abstract visual techniques and beautiful music that went along with each scene.

Well when it comes to animes for me, I prefer them to have a deep well thought out storyline and plot. The characters must be deep and realistic in a sense, and I don't mean that crap they pull where they make up crappy back stories for characters with no logical or sensible value. I like the characters that think like normal people and act realistically even in outrageous situations.
I go for how well written an anime is, because I look at it as how well a story should be written. I'm not trying to sound like an arrogant ass or anything, but I just believe animes should be capable of telling a good story that any person who may enjoy literature should be capable of enjoying.
Although I may be a bit exagerating, that's the way that I see anime's which is why I'm strict with what I like from Animes.

Warning may contain spoilers.

Death Note is a great story, it tells you a deep involved story about a normal boy who lives on average Earth with nothing strange happening. He gains the power of a God from a notebook and becomes a sociopath with a God complex who will do anything that he sees proper to create a perfect earth, even if it means committing horrible acts of Evil.
The story brings up many impressive moral issues that constantly have you asking what should be considered right versus wrong. The characters in the story are very deep as they play as normal humans that have to deal with an extrordinary situations that are out of their control, such as how do you destroy a god, or how do you work alongside a god.

This right here makes a fantastic story that you could easily read up in a proper novel that tells a horrific story that is well plotted and takes you through many horrors as well as tragedies such as killing off characters that you gain an emotional attachment to, that way when a character dies, it feels like a real loss.

That's what I look for when deciding if an Anime is great or not.
