About time someone brought that up. Agreed, enough of the harem anime already. The plots of the most recent ones are getting more and more lame, everything has been said, done, and far more than run into the ground.

The main male character role seems to be turning into a pathetic loser who couldn't even cook himself a meal, let alone wipe his own behind after going to the bathroom. What the heck is up with that?

I liked some of the older harem stories, but when they all started to look like the same thing with minor tweaking, it really blew it for me.

lol it is early on.

if you never made it past the first dozen volumes you wouldn't even recognize it now, it's pretty much become DBZ style Shonen stuff with fate of worlds in balance, armies of demons and stuff blowing up all over the place.

If the series continues past the current story arc it'll probably slip into Harem mode again for a few volumes but it's pretty much locked down as an action series now.

I'm not trying to change your mind on anything I'm just pointing out that there is always something good in any pile of trash if you look hard enough. and yeah I personally find 75% of Harem shows to be pretty much trash. I still try watching everyone that comes out though cause I never know till I see it. It's easy to stop watching a bad show, but it's hard to find a good show if you avoid looking for them. That applies to pretty much every genre not just the Harems.

That's why it's sometimes worth pressing the "Random Video" button on the front page. You might find something amazing (or your might find something that turns your stomach. I give it 50/50 odds)

I agree with you; harem animes need to stop being produced. The problems I have with harem animes are either one of several things or all of them:

-Weak (male)protagonist (weak as in character or not well developed) - Which coincides with an unlikable character as well.
-Cliche feminine archetypes
-Lame story (I realize that this is an opinion but come on, seriously, it's lame; there are no "buts" about it)

In order for a harem anime to work for me I have to like the male protagonist (nearly 99.9% of the time I don't). If I don't like the male protagonist than I end up not liking the fact that he gets in a relationship with some girl (which is a positive thing). I would rather have negative things happen to him (like dieing). The male character at the center of it all always ends up being shallow and perverted or naive and uninteresting. F*** harem animes.

^most of u guys are idiots...nuff said
i saw alot of stupid shit said, i'll only gonna call out a few as i only decided to read a few posts on the first page
1) this isnt a forum, this is a thread.
2)it's called using archetypes and themes, such as the trickster or mother nature in american literature, but without the lesson learned.
3) repeats are going to happen, it's kind of hard to think of an anime that completely stands out amongst the rest and still isnt totally ridiculous.
4) i dont see any1 complaining about mecha-anime, that shit is always a repeat.

K then. BTW I'm not going to read over a dozen volumes of a manga I don't even like. Just saying.

I personally like the harem genre. Yes it is gets painfully repetitive. But when I wanna sit back and shut my brain off for 30 minute spans, they are the best. Many people on here prejudge the genre and have maybe watched part of one series. If you don't like it then give a reason as to why.

I usually watch harems for their comedy. I do however hate the types where the main character is a dork or weak to the point where his harem will have to protect him. One of my all time favorite is Seitokai no Ichizon ^.^ I guess I like that one because the protagonist openly admits he wants to hook up with everyone, and can be cool and serious during certain times.

the harem genre is not supposed to be taken seriously which also means that trying to criticize it is pointless .

also they won't stop making them since they are still profitable and easy to make (no need for great story and music ect..)
but who knows maybe that will change some day .

That's kinda the reason why the industry has been steering towards titles like:
K-On
Lucky Star
KoiHime Musou

Ironic? You be the judge.

its not the harem aspect that bothers me its the way they present females in those animes and that creates this unfavorable stereotype that many have come to expect

It's fiction bro, don't take it to seriously. That's like getting upset at bleach or naruto because they have to much filler.
